Piksel8 reacted to proxy in Ryan Reynolds had to meet Madonna in person to get permission to use 'Like a Prayer' in Deadpool & Wolverine
"The actor explained at a recent SiriusXM Town Hall that he and the movie's director, Shawn Levy, had a “personal meeting with Madonna” to show the pop icon the sequence in which the song would be used in the film."
“Also, let's preface it with the fact that they don't license — Madonna doesn't just license the song, and particularly that song has not been licensed,” Reynolds pointed out. “So it was a big deal to ask for it and certainly a bigger deal to use it... We went over and met with her and showed her how it was being used and where and why.”
Reynolds also revealed that, in addition to letting them use the track in the movie, Madonna — who has directed films like 2011's W.E. — gave them some feedback on how to make the scene better. "And she gave a great note," he recalled. "My God, she watched it and, I'm not kidding, just was like, ‘You need to do this, this, and this in this moment.' And damn it, if she wasn't like spot-on and right."

You got it. For any musical act/artist before the internet, they only needed to dominate 1 vehicle, RADIO!
The significance of MTV in pop culture also pushed artist to further promote their music via music videos. That's all that was needed to get people to buy albums.

Maybe it's silly but... She literally didnt need to. Like, she was EVERYWHERE. It's still surreal to me how LAP and others hits of hers werent performed until the respective tour started

The original "hello" queen has passed away.
For anyone old enough to remember her from Faerie Tale Theatre and the Shinning. Dan Gilroy (from the breakfast club) ended up being Shelley's life long partner since 1989 after he dated Madonna in the Breakfast Club years.

Piksel8 got a reaction from Voguerista in Can you think of any French-Canadian influences in her work?
Her mom is Quebecois Descendant. She's incorporated Cirque Du Soleil (which originated from Quebec) style in her acts. And was most notably compared to when she did her Girlie show tour.
The Augmented reality technology used during her Billboard Music Award performance was done by Reflector Entertainment (by cirque du soleil founder Guy Laliberté)
Her backdrops in 2010s tour were produced by Moment Factory which is a company from Montreal.
Although her inspirations in visual art doesn't stem from any French Canadians, she's partnered with some.

I agree on swept away. Her acting was good. Too good that it repulsed audience and critics during the first half of the movie. The character was a total bitch at the beginning after all. I tolerated watching it, and to my amazement, she didn't sound like she was reading her lines and sounded more genuine.

I dare to say that she was good in Swept Away. And in retrospect she was not so bad in Who's That Girl. Body of Evidence was tragic, the entire film. Her performance was robotic and cold while her look/wardrobe were terrible, but the other actors were awful too. I think she was channeling Dietrich's Witness for the Prosecution. She made a fool of herself and was funny when it was not intended; the candle scene was lame and laughable and the line: "That's what I do, I fuck" was appalling. But her worst film ever was "Shangai surprise", I couldn't finished it. Dick Tracy was a bore beyond belief, but she comes off as a very convincing Marlene Dietrich (again), meaning she is a stunning presence but nothing else in that film. She actually steals the film, overshadowing the other actors.

That last part was specifically in relation to YMLM I think, they thought she was trying to get a writing credit
However, I believe a lot of her desired changes were honoured. Overall, there was a deliberate attempt to make Eva seem less of a manipulative tyrant.

Eh... there's already a long history of criticism of the original musical on how inaccurate the story was since it was turned into mega musical and over exaggerated for dramatic effect. if anything she was referring to THAT! the movie version is totally different from what the musical which Luponed originated (which made look eva as a manipulative tyrant). If I recall, there were times Madonna suggested to change things or lyrics to certain songs and they told her NO.

bubblegum pop was on the rise. lol I remember it was all about Britney that year.

On top of that, they didn't bother further promoting the song after her opening act at the Grammy's. I think as soon they (her and WB) got the grammys for ROL, they didn't even bother. They got what they wanted, she made history for herself and went on to work on Beautiful stranger. she immediately ditched the black hair and went back to blonde and had a tan.
