Madonna has lashed out at intolerance in Europe, saying it is now so high in France and across the continent that “it feels like Nazi Germany”.
Speaking to French radio station Europe 1 in an interview to be aired on Friday morning, Madonna said “antisemitism is at an all-time high” in France and elsewhere in Europe, and likened the atmosphere to the period when German fascism was on the ascent.
“We’re living in crazy times,” the 56-year-old singer said, calling the situation “scary,” and lamenting what she described as France’s lost tradition of welcoming diversity and honouring freedom.
“It was a country that embraced everyone and encouraged freedom in every way, shape or form – artistic expression of freedom,” Madonna said. “Now that’s completely gone.
“France was once a country that accepted people of colour, and was a place artists escaped to, whether it was Josephine Baker or Charlie Parker.”
In fact, Parker only visited France briefly to play concert engagements, and unlike jazz legends such as Bud Powell, Kenny Clarke and Dexter Gordon, never took up French residency.
The globally acclaimed entertainer also spoke out in 2012 when she denounced the rise of xenophobia and extreme-right parties in Europe.
She said her earlier comments were made when “I was receiving a lot of criticism and threats from Marine Le Pen” and her National Front party, which Madonna described as “fascist”.
The singer’s spat with Le Pen began after the far-right leader threatened to sue Madonna over a video featuring an image of Le Pen with a swastika on her forehead. The offending symbol was eventually replaced with a question mark to avoid litigation.
But Madonna said in the interview that the motives that led her to speak out against intolerance in 2012 were even more pressing today.
“What I said two years ago is valid today,” she said. “It’s not just happening in France, it’s all over Europe. But particularly in France.
“The level of intolerance is so enormous it’s scary.”

Isn't the story behind this cover because they wanted people to think Madonna was black so they didn't put her photo on it?

Yes @playpause. I'm over it. I have to show my support to her first before I shrug it off. I'm not going to pretend that it didn't happen and that I was not shaken the first time I saw it.

I was looking for something like this of an example why everyone shouldn't keep thinking that something like Bitch I'm Madonna will be a single.

I think that releasing a ballad (or whatever we wanna call "Ghosttown") as a second single wouldn't be a good idea. Madonna should go on with the vibe of LFL single and release some other upbeat song. "Ghosttown" should be served as a dessert with the proper cinematographic video to stay in everyone's mind. And then... another hit ;-)

Radio no longer determines success.And I think it is having a mild freakout because it's realising that it matters less and less. LolMadonna too old for radio? I think radio is doing a bit of projection as IT is old.Do teens and young adults really listen to radio anyway?Besides, you know what's old? Bringing up Madonna's age and using it as an excuse to keep the world from great music.

Now that we're hearing that Ghosttown could be one of Rebel Heart's next singles, I just wanted to share something I noticed in December when the first 6 songs were released on iTunes... The thing is that the first seconds of Ghosttown remind me of The Look of Love! but how could that be possible? Some may be wondering... Here's the proof, listen to the file I attached to the topic and see for yourselves: Patrick Leonard 80's nostalgia all over it. If I'm not mistaken, the track was extracted from the music on the Who's That Girl DVD, somebody separated the channels and created a virtual 'Score' collection from the tunes used in the film. Now, what do you think? Was it intentional? Or just plain coincidence? For me The Look of Love remains one of Madonna's finest ballads ever, unfairly ignored in the Something to Remember collection...

Has anyone noticed how few pics they've used to promote this era? Will it be like MDNA again? I mean, for that promo they used around 10 images including the ones used in the CD/digital booklet and months after we realised there were dozens of outtakes that didn't even deserve to be kept in the vault. I think the stealing-selling-trading-leaking thing is also their fault for not using better promotion strategies.

With all the great songs she has recorded for this album, I don't see the point of putting 2 remixes
