what?

PlayPause reacted to stefo in Candy Shop or Body Shop?
Body shop lyrics are embarassing ... and in any good way possible. The mood and the melody are cute so it's a shame.
Candy shop is a solid track, very Neptunes sounding, and always a stand out moment when performed (my favourite version musically is the MDNA one, in terms of performance SS and RH were both energetic and sexy). She's been able to make it something in her career even without a proper release or success.

Nellee Hoopper used Madonna’s moans from Bedtime Story in his remix of Garbage’s #1 Crush for the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack. One of my favourite songs and I had not idea, but now that I know I can totally hear it. Pretty cool. I wonder if she got paid for that

PlayPause got a reaction from Voguerista in What If The Celebration Tour Got a 1CD Release...
Given there was no CD for MXT, it's an interesting question indeed.
Maybe they could try a multiple physical release for this one, old style. Single LP (highlights from TCT) / Single CD (incl. bonus tracks) / Triple CD (full show, almost no spoken parts) / Boxset LP (full show with too long spoken parts that are hard to skip on vinyl).
The streaming version would be available in 2 editions : Highlights (incl. bonus) + Full show version (with spoken interludes). And then one day, we will see a Celebration in Rio edition in full.
When I say "full" or anything, it's obviously highly edited, so don't expect this Vogue version to feature Beyoncé too much for example.
Highlights LP / CD version*
Nothing Really Matters Everybody Into The Hollywood Groove* Open Your Heart* Holiday Live to Tell* Erotica/You Thrill Me/Papa Don't Preach* Justify My Love Hung Up (On Tokischa) Bad Girl Vogue* Don't Tell Me Die Another Day* Bedtime Story* Ray of Light Rain* Bitch I'm Madonna/Celebration Music (TCT in Rio feat. Pabllo Vittar)* -

PlayPause reacted to Curtains in Would you be up for megarates again?
Hey everyone!
As some of you may know, i organized megarates some time ago and i really liked to do it. It was really great to see what the community thought of Madonna's songs and we all exchanged about her work which was a fun time. I had to stop the games but am ready to start again. Would you be up for it? I was waiting for the reissues so that we would have some new tracks but... yeah...
This would have been posted as a status update if still available. But I would like to know if there's demand for this as it's a lot of work for me as well. What do you think? I think starting with the Madonna videography megarate that I never did could be a good idea, and then restarting to do what we did two years ago. Let me know what you think!

PlayPause reacted to Roland Barthes in Madonna did not like Evita
From LA Times interview in september of 1996. I guess she was tired with the pregnancy and could not give an eff about everything so she spoke freely and had no time to tiptoe around the edges, i guess liz briefed her later for the release.

'Verás' was translated by the Argentinian singer-songwriter Paz Martinez, it has a more sense itself than a straight translation. 'Lo que siente la mujer' was translated by Alberto Ferreras, a writer not a singer. I personally think it sounds more like a google translation song with less melody.
Spanish Lesson was written by Pharrell...that's it.

It just falls under the same "FUNNY! LATIN!" category she discovered doing the 1985 SNL sketch and seemed to love so much:

I don't like the studio version that much TBH but the live version on the "Girlie Show" is EVERYTHING:
Bonkers.

Also I wouldn't call it a mariachi, that has violin, trumpets and a guitar.
This is a Cuban rumba or timba like Cuban Pete:
The song it means to be from an era like the rest of the album ( but Vogue) so it's not a representation of real Latin folk but more the subtly racist interpretation of the 'ol gay 20s-30s

The reason often compared to Carmen Miranda is due to the 'joke' of the song, which is based on Hollywood's 'Spicy Latina' concept—a stereotype that Carmen Miranda symbolized. This misinterpretation portrays 'exotic' women as sexy, promiscuous, hot-tempered, and speaking with exaggerated accents for comedic effect. Another example of this stereotype is the Mexican actor Lupe Vélez. This portrayal originated in vaudeville during the 1880s.

When it comes to what she says, it's filled with double entendres—another facet of this stereotype. The listener believes they hear one thing, but it actually means something else, often due to a mispronunciation.
Compos Mentis - Campoz Mendez
Meshuga - My sugar (The use of Yiddish words in Cabaret/Musicals at the time was pretty common too.)
I always thought she said Pajaro Loco -Like Woody Woodpecker tbh.
