I agree, I don't care for the album but the live versions of the Hard Candy songs are better than some of the album versions, specifically Candy Shop and She's Not Me. Also the Erotic Candy Shop is amazing!

You mentioned how Drake and Kanye made careers based on autotune. I think people give them passes because of the fact that they've been using it on pretty much all of their songs so people don't have a good idea what their voices sound like unedited whereas Madonna has only used it on her 21st century albums so I think people have given Madonna crap because they know what her voice sounds like without heavy editing and autotune. Also, I think it's more ageism than sexism since Madonna started using autotune in her 40s so people are probably thinking that she's using it to mask the fact that her voice has allegedly started to falter (oh, Madonna's getting older, she can't sing anymore that's why she needs to use autotune).

    I'll jingle your bells
    Leave your chestnuts roasting
    Make you my sleigh ride
    Make your 'nog start dripping

    Be my Santa baby
    Show me your north pole
    It's nice to be naughty
    That's my goal

    Make my Christmas tree rock
    I'll wrap your present
    Don't run run Rudolph
    I can be acquiescent

The ultimate B side played more than the original (at least in North America) by FAR is Into The Groove. Nothing else even compares.
Throughout my whole life, I have probably heard ITG more than any other M song ever on radio.
It definitely overshadowed Angel (which is a song I love btw). I would also say the general population would know ITG much more than Angel. Besides the fact, ITG is one of her biggest hits ever and it was a legit B side, never charting on the Billboard Hot 100.
Oh, and further more, even though I was just a kid when it was initially released, I knew 5 other friends/family with the 12" single of Angel/Into the Groove. I have never known that many people still to this day with the same single in any format from Madonna. And they all pretty much got it just to hear ITG.

Didn't Survival get some decent airplay? It was a b-side to Bedtime Stories

Her last Hot 100 hit was at age 56. Dolly is the oldest at age 59 but she was a featured artist. As the lead artist, Madonna and Tina are tied for oldest at 56 at the time of the releases of their respective singles. Tina however is the oldest one to chart as a lead with no featured artists as Madonna had Nicki on BIM.

Probably the hits with some new songs to pad out the soundtrack like Tina Turner did with her biopic's soundtrack. She couldn't remix the songs too much before they sonically stray out of the original decades that they were created in.

This! Let's be honest there are two big times when Madonna has played it safe and done what she needed to do to win back audiences. The first time was Bedtime Stories, an album that came after Erotica, her first commercial dip. That album came with a softer image after the slightly aggressive Dita Parlo. The second time which is arguably the safest Madonna move she's ever made was with Confessions. That came after American Life, the album that almost got her blacklisted like the Chicks after their Bush comments. She worked the nostalgia and upbeat attitude tactics with that album and it worked marvellously. She really isn't interested in working to win back audiences, at least not right now. If she was, the Madame X era probably wouldn't have happened.

I am looking forward to new Madonna music! I'm gonna call it now - be prepared for lots of auto tune - grillz, and a reference to Candy Shop.
