It's not easy. My mother died last October way too soon and it takes much much less than anything specific to make me cry at a moments notice.
I always felt bad for Madonna after learning about her mother dying, but I realize now that I could in no way understand what she really felt. And even now, in my position, I actually still can't understand completely because I had so much more time with my mother than she did. Her loss must feel so much more like something missing, something she never had then something she had, cherished, took for granted at times, and then ultimately lost.

    Thanks for sharing

When I woke up today, I didn't plan on making this post. I was actually fine. September 9th. My mother's birthday.

She passed away 5 years ago from breast cancer. The time between her diagnosis and dying was 5 months. She had no chance, it was too late and she made her peace with it, refusing chemo and choosing to be at home being administered morphine.

She passed away the morning after my birthday, living just long enough to give me that day. Today, on her birthday, I was fine. But I couldn't stop thinking about Promise To Try. That scene in Truth or Dare where she lay on her mother's grave, talking to her and wondering what she looked like now. And I broke like a piece of glass...

And that's how the day kept going. Little by little, the song kept playing in my head..."will she see me cry when I stumble and fall"... And every day I do stumble and fall, but I keep getting up, even when at times I just feel like laying there. "Keep your head held high, ride like the wind, never look behind". And I try to keep going and never dwell on the past. Never feel nostalgic, keep moving forward, never stay one thing too long and never let anyone feel sorry for you.

"Can't kiss her goodbye, but I promise to try". I tell myself I can let go, that I don't need to be comforted by tales of heaven and angels. That I'm ok with death being the end of it will help me find that closure. That I need to let her go. "But it feels like a lie".

And it kept playing in my head. Bringing me to tears each time today. Just one song. The power of Madonna's writing and vocal delivery, emoting so much. Intricate simplicity. Grief. A universal feeling we can all understand, but perhaps only mire so with this song if you've experienced losing your mother.

I don't need to listen to Madonna's songs everyday. I'm no longer a teenager in the early 90s. I've been there and done all of that. I grew up with her music in the 80s. But I feel I've lived through her music; I've sat on a plane fleeing an abusive situation with "You'll See" playing in mind, giving me the strength I needed. I've left home at an early age with "Oh Father" in my head saying "you can't hurt me now". I've gone place to place trying to find safety with "Drowned World" (travelled round the world, looking for a home). But today, Promise To Try hurt a little more than it usually did.

No, I don't need to listen to her music every day. I can go months without playing her songs as I get on with my life. I don't need to do any of those things because I can just think of her songs and I experience them because they've had a lifetime to bury themselves deep within me, waiting for the right moments to burst forward.

    Using "Youlean Loudness Meter" software:
    "Vogue (from Celebration)":
Momentary Max = -4.62 LUFS Short Term Max = -5.80 LUFS Integrated = -8.81 LUFS "Hung Up (from Celebration)":
Momentary Max = -4.29 LUFS Short Term Max = -6.35 LUFS Integrated = -8.52 LUFS
    In DB:
    formula: dB = LUFS + 23
    Vogue:
    Momentary Max (-4.62 LUFS): -4.62 + 23 = 18.38 dB Short Term Max (-5.80 LUFS): -5.80 + 23 = 17.20 dB Integrated (-8.81 LUFS): -8.81 + 23 = 14.19 dB Hung Up:
Momentary Max (-4.29 LUFS): -4.29 + 23 = 18.71 dB Short Term Max (-6.35 LUFS): -6.35 + 23 = 16.65 dB Integrated (-8.52 LUFS): -8.52 + 23 = 14.48 dB These values represent the sound levels in decibels relative to the maximum digital level (Full Scale).

On TIDAL, there's always an option to "normalize" songs to ensure they play at the same level. For my compilations stored on a hard drive, I use wavegain to adjust all the tracks to the same volume as the "Like a Prayer" album (for example, "Vulgar" sounds as loud as "Express Yourself").
You might wonder why I use the same volume level as the "Like a Prayer" album to 'normalize' my compilations. It's because it's the last Madonna album that features the highest possible volume with no dynamic range compression.

I think in some instances when group setting organizes especially relating to religion, tends to come off cult like to me.  However, I think the teachings Kabbalah can be beneficial, but that probably could be said of any belief/religion depending on the person. I don't believe one has to attend any meetings to benefit from such and people can be just fine when studying or worshipping on their own.  Of course, I understand how some people prefer to gather and discuss and share their findings, beliefs, etc.  I get that, but the moment that group starts imposing their beliefs on others, and use it to judge and ridicule others, is where I think it ends up becoming more cult like.  And when money starts to be a huge factor to these organizations than that raises a huge red flag for me. I get that Church Organization have expenses, and can use money to help others, but in many cases, more money is being pocketed than not, especially when it becomes extremely well known.
At the end of the day, I say people do what works for them.  I personally don't think of Madonna is attending these meetings to be part of an occult. I think she is smarter than that.  That being said, it doesn't mean the people she mixes with or meets with aren't cult like. I truly believe Madonna attends for traditional reasons and to genuinely work on who she is.

They're alternate Q-Sound versions, so they're indeed very similar the ones on "The Immaculate Collection" original CD, vinyl and cassette - but they're not the same.
"Borderline" has the "mind, mind, mind" echoes in the chorus more noticeable and that's a mixing decision, that doesn't come from the remastering.
Mixing on "Lucky Star" sounds different, too.

That’s like shelling out $40 for a new 4k UHD disc and then saying if there are glitches or errors, it’s only the hardcore fans of the movie that will notice, so no need to fix it.

Let’s get back to logic and reason, please.

Mhmm weird. I just checked when I bought that album on iTunes and it was in 2015 but that never happened with "Express Yourself" to me, I'm 100% sure. Maybe it was only in some territories or that user had an old version downloaded from years earlier? (Just checked that image and it says bought in 2010 for that user).
    Messy, anyway. Gosh.

Yep. And apparently EY was a remix as well.

It’s interesting, with some of the mistakes, like using a 12” mix of a song on an album- Dress, Papa, Express, you can almost wonder if they did it on purpose as a sort of bonus for fans (even though they very easily could have added them as extra bonus tracks), but then you look at the bigger picture and all the other mistakes and it’s clear that wasn’t the case.

Actually I remember reports from MadonnaTribe in 2009 talking about three updated remixes from then current producers/DJs for three classic songs, including "Holiday" and "Into The Groove". But they were not used/released in the end.
I don't think a whole remixes compilation was on the cards but at least as promo support remixes probably.
I tried to find that piece of info now but can't find it anymore.

It may just been fan talk that she didn't like them.
Anyway, I still have a hard time believing Madonna and her team doesn't have access to the originals.  But it is what it is.  Also, you'd think there could be other ways to get the right versions on the digital/streaming platforms even if it is a rip from another source
