I would love a Madonna album co-produced by The Weeknd... imagine if this is a hint and she has really recorded a new album with Max Martin and The Weeknd before the start of the tour

“I've always wanted to work with her,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to write and produce a Madonna album…well, co-produce with her, of course. She’s a visionary and she has such a singular vision, and I just want to come into her world and create a classic Madonna album. That was always my dream. Hopefully this is the appetizer for that.”

    More things worth to mention:
    - She doesn't have a writing credit on this. It's probably the first time since forever she's in something so big without having a co-writing credit, right?
    - With the theme and the lyrics, whoever picked her for the feat. is genius and META.
    - Again, The Weeknd singing those lyrics when he is "her" in the song, doin' EVERYTHING he can in the last ten years and every feature possible to be popular is meta, too.
    - Her vocal production is top notch (again, I can't believe how good it is).
    - This is going to be huge and we love to see it.

I mean that it seems to be a catchy/fun song but that it sticks to the same formula and imagery that she has used so often in the past (Human Nature, Erotica etc.) A sound that will appeal only to her main fanbase and that you will only hear in gay clubs (nothing wrong with that!!! I guess that is her intention with this song). "Popular" on the other hand, sounds more "fresh" compared to her recent collabs and hopefully will appeal to a wider audience.

I am so glad that this is a proper duet with new vocals by M   she is practically singing on half the song plus intro. Btw, is that her laughing in the background?
It is the kind of song that I wanted / hoped from this collab... great beat, nice vocals and she blends perfectly with The Weeknd's voice. This will appeal to a larger audience than Vulgar. If this won't bring her back on the charts nothing else will...
Anyway, I have this on repeat since I woke up

To me it's better than anything on Hard Candy. The production is more smooth and classy. It has the class of something from Bedtimes stories (especially her voice). It's a real good track for the summer. I really wasn't expecting such a good track.

Love the song, love her verse, love their voices together. It proves once again what a versatile chameleon pop vocalist she is (something she rarely gets credit for). I hope it's a hit.

Luving it.  Feelin the Hard Candy vibes.  She is the sweet spot of the song.  If this doesnt get her back on the charts I dont know what will. The current biggest selling male artists, a hot new Tv show behind it by the Euphoria guys.  So great to hear her again on a soundtrack

I loved the first snippet with the "arabian sounding" intro but after listening to the second snippet I feel a bit let down... sounds like a Bitch I'm Madonna / Holy Water kind of song. Let's wait for the full thing. Fingers crossed...

I fear that her involvement in this is really minimal, which would be such a missed opportunity because a proper duet with The Weeknd would be great. I am not a huge fan of his work but his sound is quite interesting. I would love to hear Madonna doing a "darker rnb/pop" type of song. Furthermore, he is way more successful than Sam Smith, so this collab could have been her way back on the charts. Well, we will see in a couple of hours what this will be...

Id say theweeknd has the control over this collab. And just like Kanye did with his „Highlights“ track, he might just prefer madonna to have a little to none existend part in his song.

Madonna cant control other peoples musical choice, just like other singers cant control what happens to their verse as soon as they send it in to madonnas request.
lets just hope she got that chorus part we think we might have heard in the background.

I'm still curious why Madonna has made no mention of this collab yet.  Obviously, her focus is more on the Sam collab, but she'll probably something once it drops.

What the hell ??? We can hear the full song and Madonna is only saying like 4 words during the intro... Sorry, i'm always trying to be positive and all but this is beginning to be a bad joke, first we get the announcement that Madonna will be on three new tracks with Christine and the queens, super exciting and then the 3 songs drop and turns it's only a few spoken words, then the big Sam Smith collab announcement drops and once again super excited, then an a reliable insider says Madonna's parts are mostly spoken words and qualified the song as vulgar, turns out just yeterday Madonna teased the Vulgar title on her story, so seems like the insider is legit, and now another announcement of a new track with the Weeknd, once again super excited but the red carpet video plays the whole track and now it's getting even worse cause she only says like 4 words during the intro and nothing more...  So we have now 5 new songs with only spoken words... Ok i keep some expectations for the Sam Smith collab cause i haven't heard it but from the insider description it's also spoken words... What the hell ?? Did she record a pack of spoken words in her new home studio and is selling them word by word to any new artist who wanna a collab ?? Sorry for the negativity, i'm not often doing it on the forum but this is getting boring, 5 times being excited for almost nothing... i know she owns us nothing but these kind of announcements creates real excitement for fans who haven't got new music from their fav for a long time. 5 times is just getting like a bad joke now... Now it's only missing the info that the upcoming Max Martin track is mostly spoken words and i'm done...

SonnyX reacted to DoneGone in The reason for the (apparently) slower sales of Like a Prayer?
This. Madonna was still a top pop figure, of course, but in 1989 the whole pop landscape had changed. Janet and Paula were hip and fresh (and... safe), she wasn't the new girl anymore. In the UK, Kylie had also exploded in 1988, another fresh and safer option for the parents. There was a lot of female pop competition.
With "Like A Prayer", Madonna entered a more adult territory. She quickly had "Express Yourself" remixed for the single release, to make it more up to date with the rest of the charts. "Cherish" was another hit single, but after that the campaign derailed, with all the different local releases and not that good chart results. "Oh Father" as a single was her first single not to enter the Top 10 in the US since "Holiday" in 1984.
She wasn't in trouble in 1989-1990 but I'd say she was having a hard time battling all the new pop girls in the charts. She was older, an 80s superstar and the world was entering a new decade...
...But then "Vogue" came and changed everything for her. She was fresh, new and hip again. "Vogue" was her "Hung Up" of the 90s. It revitalized her career.

SonnyX reacted to RUADJAI in Wth is this Rolling Stone piece by Andy Greene claiming 'American Life' as one of the "50 Genuinely Horrible Albums by Brilliant Artists"
American Life was the right choice as a first single. It had the same effect that Frozen had on me… me staring at my car stereo speakers wondering what the fuck was happening. Frozen.. I Was staring at my TV wondering what the fuck was happening.

The fact of the matter is… people don’t know good music. I’m So Stupid isn’t supposed to be an enjoyable listen as say Secret is. It’s meant to be jarring. As is quite a number of the songs on American Life are. To not understand that, is not understanding that ART isn’t one specific thing. It’s also not understanding the album.

and I really wish we could move on from equating commercial success to quality music. They aren’t one and the same. Which is why I don’t care about streaming numbers, or album sales. It means nothing. Taylor Swift, I’m sure, has amazing numbers… but she gives me absolutely nothing. And some of my favorite music artists like Goldfrapp, who I think surpass most artists including Madonna in creativity and quality get absolutely no recognition at all.

I could really care less what anyone has to say about one of my favorite Madonna albums.
