    BOOM.
Good god do I HATE the term "dated". I mean, at a certain point, everything is dated. Doesn't make it any less great.
Hell, pretty much every one here is "dated".

Why do people go on about things sounding dated? I really think it’s not a relevant criticism anymore, especially not in a room of people aged mostly 35 to 60. They use old music in films , tv shows, video games, adverts, trailers , they play them in clubs, bars… music has no age. Young kids like hearing old stuff if it’s good. They sent an 80’s Kate Bush song to #1 a few years ago and a Sophie Ellis Bextor song to #1 last year.

Elton was pretty much a consultant on that film.  Of course, Madonna will have more creative control with her Biopic if she still directs, but the director of Rocketman relied heavily on Elton to make a lot of things as authentic as possible.
The thing is; a film like this under a major label, won't let Madonna just do whatever she wants. Other people will be involved while she's directing. The fact that she had two well award winning writers on the script up to this point, shows she's very willing to listen to what other people say.  I'm sure she'll be fine as director and I'm personally keeping in mind this is a project that Madonna wants to do to share HER perspective.  She isn't interested in doing a typical Biopic.  We should know that because Madonna more than not, does things outside the box.

That's not even true. And if it were, how was she able to sell out a massive tour at 65 on just name value alone? As someone who was there, I can tell you for a fact it was not just boomers, or even Gen X...
And if the masses supposedly don't understand her life and work, then all the more reason to actually tell that story. At this stage in a career as a legacy artist, let alone the biggest female of all time, what better time to do it than now. That's the whole point.

So what? There have been prejudices against her from the very beginning, through every single high and low of her entire career. It has never stopped her from doing what she wants...hence why she is Madonna. It's one of the things that makes her so great, and separates her from nearly all her peers. If she followed your logic, why would she (or anyone) have bothered to try anything in the first place...to wait around until others approve?! Her entire life/personality/body of work/etc. is a living testament against that kind of thinking.
If there was enough interest to sell out a world tour, let alone make history with Rio...there will be interest in a film (when the time comes).

What is wrong with you people, yes a lot of people on social media dislike her, as they dislike EVERYTHING!!! social media keyboard warriors who live on their mother basements hate EVERYBODY. And they are very vocal about their hate of dogs, cats, gays, lesbians, Ronaldo, Burger King, The US, Mexico, Brasil, Black, Asian, Latin, White, Arab, Catholic Etc, etc haven’t you made that connection already???
But there are millions who worship, adore, like, love or are at least intrigued by her, where have you been the last year, she just did her greatest show of her career and you are whining about people don’t liking her ffs!!!

Well said!  I'm boggled by how some fans constantly focus on how she is perceived by those who never liked her and the negativity thrown at her as if she should re-think in doing anything or not do it.  This woman has suffered from prejudices since coming on the scene. It's safe to say that if she's made it this long, then she'll be fine no matter how this film is perceived.  At the end of the day, I know some will hate it and pick it a part, while others will just enjoy it for what it is.  I don't let anyone else decide for me if I'm going to like Madonna or her projects. I don't care what the detractors say and obviously Madonna doesn't let those people stop her from doing so!  I'm a fan of her work and her vision, not what I want her to be!  That would be so basic!!

Even her so-called fans are full of prejudice towards her judging by this thread. As we all know, she doesn't care. She will do what she want to do as she always has. People will bitch and moan no matter what she does, so she's dead right.

I think most of the prejudices against her relate to recent Madonna. When it comes to Madonna’s golden years a lot of people will come out of the woodwork to relive their youth. You only have to look at the success of the Celebration Tour to see that. Add to that a great film with hype and marketing dollars thrown in and I think it could do very well. Even a lot of haters we see online are former fans and love Madonna’s music.

Goddamn y'all are depressing as shit. Tour over...and we're right back to perpetually complaining. As always.
Good for her to start her movie. I'm definitely looking forward to it. And it was obvious that it was eventually going to happen one way or another. The fact that it will follow the tour makes complete sense. As someone said, as a legacy artist now, there probably is more they can do for her legacy than a new album that would just be geared to the hardcore fans (that of course, we all eventually want, and I'm sure will eventually get).

ps. and as for saying none of the films she's acted in are worth watching (for whatever various reasons) - BULL. Desperately Seeking Susan, Dick Tracy, A League Of Their Own, Dangerous Game (Snake Eyes), and Evita absolutely say otherwise. Her own film, W.E., is also a beautiful film. And dare I say she even shines in "Who's That Girl", where her unlikely strength in comedy actually shines.

That sounds like a great idea to me. New music inspired by the story of her life. I'm all for it.

    Don’t you want new music?
I think songs like Nobody knows me, love spent, gone, easy ride, keep it together, Hollywood, among others are very interesting insights into her life or inspired by her life. Isn’t joa and heartbreak city and bitch I'm madonna also inspired by herself?
And I agree that the back catalogue is extremely important and relevant to the movie if it wasn’t full of the “hits” it would take away much of the fun of it.  My OST idea was a side project not a replacement of her original music
I a few words we need new music pronto

I don't know though?  While I don't think she is opposed to an idea of a "limited series", I think at the end of the day, she still wants a "feature film".  She also wants to "direct this".  I have no issue with this.  Though, I do think she should have someone there to help her along the way.  She'll want to over see the post production as well.  Again, I don't have an issue with her being so involved. After all, it's her story.  But I think what is hard (and this would be for anyone), is trying to stay objective to it all. I think she'll do fine, but she should (and I'm sure she will) allow more input from others who an help make this Biopic blossom to it's potential.  The fact is; no matter who is behind this biopic (in any aspect), they will never satisfy all fans in telling her whole story. It's just too much.  But let's be real here, there have been plenty of other biopics done on other celebrities where they weren't able to tell their full story, but still nail a goo biopic.  It's just unrealistic to think she will be able to cover her whole career as much as some fans want her to.  It just isn't ever going to happen.  And while I do think, Madonna isn't scared to share some dirt, but even she will have her limits to what is shared.  I know enough about Madonna that I don't need to know every freakin' detail of her life, including her mishaps. I think some are wanting her to air such dirty laundry. Sorry, but it isn't going to happen, and even a respectable director and film writer who is producing a film biopic on a life like Madonna will not want to focus in many negative aspects of her career.  Most biopics (unless it's on a serial killer or a monster to the world) want to share an equal share of the good and bad, but usually want to still paint their subject in an over all positive light.  We as fans know Madonna isn't perfect, and I think much of the world has their opinion that she hasn't always been perfect as well.  The idea is to produce a biopic that is entertaining enough that will draw people into seeing a fair representation of her career.  Who else better to tell it, than that person who has live it themselves.  No one should go in thinking she won't have some bias to it. Of course, she will.  But it would be billed as "her story", so people should view it as such. If they want dirt and nonsense, then dig up the countless rags and unofficial biographies on her.  Besides, I have no doubt in the future, someone will come along and do another film on her, that may be more scathing!  I personally have no interest in seeing such!  I lived her career. I know she's hasn't always been the nicest person. I know she's done some things that doesn't necessarily make her Mother Theresa, yet Madonna really hasn't pretended to be such either.

This is why I am on board to Madonna doing this because I feel she wants to share more behind the scenes info about her career that is documented.  Also, there are personal aspects of her life, people have always been fascinated with.  Not that I think she would dive heavy into her marriage and divorce, but imagine her giving more insight to what really went on behind that relationship and why it didn't work. I don't think she herself is afraid to share it, but I also know she does respect Sean Penn that she may just leave that part of her life to just a mere mention.  Anyway, there is a lot of her early career and behind the scenes of her rise to fame that is still to be learned. I also see her trying to insert stories of her friends who died of Aids.  I think it would be fascinating that she give us more insight in how she works as an artists, in the studio and putting a show together.  Lastly, I do think she's interested in putting together something far different than the typical "Hollywood" style biopic. If she wasn't, why not let someone else do it, who will "Hollywood" it?

So true, both can still happen.  Most of Madonna's early to mid career she was doing more than one project at a time. All her 80's albums were happening while she was involved in film projects.  Look at Erotica, she came off the baseball movie and started making Body of Evidence, all the while was putting her Sex book together and Erotica was being written and recorded. This all happened in a matter of two years time.  She's always been a multi-tasker.  Directing a movie like her biopic will only take a couple of months.  She can still record a new album, and even release everything simultaneously or back to back if she wanted to.

I never thought the film was completely shelved.  She decided to tour instead.  Obviously she couldn't put any more time in the film while touring. If this is true, and it's back on, I'm happy.  Let her get this out of her system. I prefer to hear her story than some pre-fabricated version by someone who is piecing her life together that undoubtedly be more sensationalism than actual facts and true experiences. Does that mean Madonna won't be a bit bias to it?  No, but no one can tell their story but themselves. That is her point.  I have no doubt someone down the line will do another film on her, but this one is Madonna's perspective.  And you can bet, she isn't just going sugar coat anything.  She isn't afraid to share her downfalls as well.

I'm all here for the movie.  She deserves it.  Apart from the Beatles the big top 5 of all time all have one.  So it makes sense and I think like the tour she will blow us away.  But I do hope a album is ready to roll. I know she does love to tour an album.  But she could film a one off concert special type thing like Kylie did with Disco. She didnt do a tour for that due to covid put we still got what the tour would look like and all the performances. If there is no album in the can then it will be years. Prep, filming, editing, promotion.

Why is this news to anyone? Did some really think she wouldn’t make this movies? What’s the no sense about “she told her story on tour perfectly”? 🤷🏻‍♂️.

I just think it should be a miniseries. There are too many stories to tell within her life story.

Maybe they can do both. A feature movie length situation and then a 5 hrs director’s cut.🤣
