SEX for sure because it proved what she was saying was true. A woman who owned her sexuality and did it on her terms was off-putting and would be slut shamed but it would have be fine if through a man's perspective. Men and the world didn't seem to mind sexualization as women as long as they were pretty, mute beauties on magazines or controlled by men (Playboy, other works) but Madonna, brazen, bold and saying what she wanted bothered people that a woman could match men and not be apologetic about it.
 
 

In my opinion a controversy that's really hurt her was the Sex book and the Erotica era. Many people (even fans) hated her with passion. I don't remember anything worse.

This album probably has her best set of music videos imo - all flawless and completely different from each other even if it’s one of her weakest albums -again imo

"Like a Virgin" is not my favorite album but I love it because It brings me back so many good memories...

In 1994 my best friend hated Madonna without any logical reason. I knew she loved ballads, so:

In 1995 my best friend became a casual fan. 

In my opinion, Live To Tell was the first single. I wasn't fan in 1986 but I remember how LTT impacted in my life (you know, first love, first heartbreak).
Maybe "Live To Tell" is my favorite Madonna song, but many videos and singles (Express Yourself, Vogue, Fever, Deeper and Deeper, Ray of Light, ...) buried the beauty of "Live To Tell" in my mind because I love dance songs.
