Spotlight reacted to TheGoth in Promise To Try - A Short Essay on Grief
When I woke up today, I didn't plan on making this post. I was actually fine. September 9th. My mother's birthday.

She passed away 5 years ago from breast cancer. The time between her diagnosis and dying was 5 months. She had no chance, it was too late and she made her peace with it, refusing chemo and choosing to be at home being administered morphine.

She passed away the morning after my birthday, living just long enough to give me that day. Today, on her birthday, I was fine. But I couldn't stop thinking about Promise To Try. That scene in Truth or Dare where she lay on her mother's grave, talking to her and wondering what she looked like now. And I broke like a piece of glass...

And that's how the day kept going. Little by little, the song kept playing in my head..."will she see me cry when I stumble and fall"... And every day I do stumble and fall, but I keep getting up, even when at times I just feel like laying there. "Keep your head held high, ride like the wind, never look behind". And I try to keep going and never dwell on the past. Never feel nostalgic, keep moving forward, never stay one thing too long and never let anyone feel sorry for you.

"Can't kiss her goodbye, but I promise to try". I tell myself I can let go, that I don't need to be comforted by tales of heaven and angels. That I'm ok with death being the end of it will help me find that closure. That I need to let her go. "But it feels like a lie".

And it kept playing in my head. Bringing me to tears each time today. Just one song. The power of Madonna's writing and vocal delivery, emoting so much. Intricate simplicity. Grief. A universal feeling we can all understand, but perhaps only mire so with this song if you've experienced losing your mother.

I don't need to listen to Madonna's songs everyday. I'm no longer a teenager in the early 90s. I've been there and done all of that. I grew up with her music in the 80s. But I feel I've lived through her music; I've sat on a plane fleeing an abusive situation with "You'll See" playing in mind, giving me the strength I needed. I've left home at an early age with "Oh Father" in my head saying "you can't hurt me now". I've gone place to place trying to find safety with "Drowned World" (travelled round the world, looking for a home). But today, Promise To Try hurt a little more than it usually did.

No, I don't need to listen to her music every day. I can go months without playing her songs as I get on with my life. I don't need to do any of those things because I can just think of her songs and I experience them because they've had a lifetime to bury themselves deep within me, waiting for the right moments to burst forward.

I love "Causing A Commotion", it sure is in my Top 5 Madonna songs. But yes, the album version is rather weak.

BUT the Silver Screen Single Mix is a perfect example for the talents of Shep Pettibone. He took the Stephen Bray production to a new level. Similar to his remixes of "Into The Groove" and "Where's The Party", he adds his magic without changing the music too much.

Of course he would later do the same to "Express Yourself" (7" Remix and Local Mix), but he outdid himself with the Non-Stop Express Mix IMO.

I recreated with AI Warning Signs. Obviously the original version is not like that but we know that the melody and the words are like that, so we can make an edea.
I decided to put an audio watermack in the track that says "Skin Bruno AI Reconstruction" because the clip I had put on the net as a preview was being passed off as the original and since I don't want anyone to take advantage of it I put the watermack audio and watermark visible on the spectum of the audio.
I hope you enjoy this version.

This is just another reason why I prefer owning the physical version of Immaculate Collection.  You get what was originally released without the alterations made digitally and on streaming formats.  The same goes with some of her other original releases. As much as I appreciate the convenience of streaming, the physical copies allows you to enjoy her how it was originally intended.

I don't believe any of it is a mistake.  I think Madonna or he thought, "hey let's update this slightly" while adding adlibs, sounds, etc. Unfortunately, I find it all atrocious. This is disappointing how they are re-imagining this album on the digital and streaming platforms.  It's like taking any of her studio albums and replacing the original classics with alternate mixes.  This album should be left as it was originally released.  I'm fine if they want to add new heighten technology to make the original mixes to sound better, but changing the actual songs is ruining what it once was.  That said; I guess no one but us hard core fans care. It's just an insult to the actually original release. Up until now, I didn't mind Mike Dean, but if he's behind the re-issues, this is the first time I am fearful of what's to come.

    Hi y'all!
So this week I started training my own Madonna Diff-SVC model based on her vocals.... I used most of the leaked stems we have...
I've been training it for over 40hours and It's still far from done but I thought I would share some results.... I think her voice is starting to get pretty recognizable right?

Ok... So I recreated the entire song from the sheet music. I also made an Instrumental version without the Vocal (Synth) Part.
I then, like a dumbass, erased my entire progress. So the background music is unchangeable unless I go back and program everything AGAIN!!!!
    I cannot believe it!
    Anyway... have at it.

I don't like this clip, I don't like the remix but happy if some like it.
It's this woman's genius to bring together people/fans with very different tastes.

However, I don't understand how some can take 1992 as a point of comparison with this video.
For having lived the sex period as a teenager, of course she was dragged through the mud etc... but behind all that there was an incredible artistic approach, millions of photos taken by a genius photographer, a fucking good album and yes she pressed real buttons there. Disturbing, necessary and incredibly risky for an artist like her. Never seen.
Today, I have the impression that she presses buttons that are already engaged and frankly not very useful in our society. What is the message ? What are we supposed to understand ? The legalization of cocaine to be able to have fun and fuck ?
Gay kisses, trash parties... hello, it's 2022. Nothing new. Playing again and again the card of sex, religion, homosexuality makes her become a cliché of herself and loses the credibility of her previous genious movements. The girl have fun. Cool for her.
I'm just waiting for a more artistically interesting next period. Yes time goes by so slowly for those who wait....

as a fan for over 30 years i never thought she could sink so low in terms of quality and depravity the last year or so but here it is ? i could care less about the "messages" of this video - i see people arguing about queer and trans - personally i couldnt care less- what really bothers me is M is trying to appeal and win over a newer "younger" audience and seriously thinks trash like this will ??? come on M - what fucking planet are you living on now ? "younger" people know she is over 60 and her die hard fan base are just getting tired of all this now - she is getting to the stage now where she is alienating her hard-core fan base - you know, the ones who have worshipped her for many years despite all the bashing she has got . i seriously became less of a fan of hers today - if she wants to have fun then have fun- just dont film it please and get on with preserving your legacy and get those album re-issues going before she has no fan base left !

Many lovely remixes exist in the 80s, although not all of them are available in 7'' format and/or in digital. I LOVE most of them, so I made this compilation for my iTunes library
I tried to avoid the original album version and edits that already existed in official compilations. Some are official edits, some are the brilliant edits I collected in this forum, and some are my personal edits. Please correct me if I mislabeled anyone here. The selection quite relies on my personal preference, it would be great if you could share more edits that I didn't include here or adjust the tracklist according to your personal interest.

Is it truly necessary calling her a whore, a pig, a retarded old woman who lost her mind, forgetting we're speaking about a human being and not about a fucking chair? I think we all are entitled to express dissent or concern (I hate lots of her performances or songs that are commonly seen as the Holy Graal, for example), what baffles me is the total lack of balance and empathy people show towards other humans who live under the spotlights. personally, I'm not hurted by discussions about her health (that's what I study, at the end of the day), as long as they respect her and her integrity as a human. I agree with who say there's something wrong with her, still I'm cautious to express my ideas, since no one has never met her in person and health is a very sensitive and incredibly deep subject, which depends on literally thousands of aspects and, for who's wondering, age plays a huge part, changing for good and dramatically our bodies and how we look at our life and our past. I think it would be more productive and smart asking ourselves why someone acts in a certain way, instead of judging the action per se and dismissing the matter saying 'it's an attention seeker' or 'it's a bad bitch, I'm disgusted', or worst 'she/he should act differently'.
Said that, for what I saw from Twitter, I found the entire show quite boring and cheap, not only her segment, like any other modern concert.
Sorry for the rant. Peace and love, folks.

I will always love and support Madonna but it's okay to admit this was a dreadful performance for her standards. She has had many incarnations in the past 40 years, but I don't think anyone ever questioned her ability to command the stage and being in control of her narrative. Last night, perhaps for the very first time, she seemed totally out of it. It looked sloppy, unrehearsed and amateur.
That being said, everyone has an off day, so I don't think it is fair to dismiss an icon who has given us so much excellence in the past. We don't have to be delusional sycophants encouraging mediocrity but I think a little more understanding and compassion would be nice. She needs to feel the love, especially now as she adjusts to her new limitations, like an ageing athlete.
I do feel a tinge of sadness while reading the fan reactions. I think we take this personally because witnessing Madonna's decadence on stage brings the harsh realization that she is also human and reminds us of our own mortality and the fact that, actually, time goes by so quickly. Maybe I'm reading too much into it considering this is a Maluma concert, but it does make you think about the future.
Anyway, I think the most concerning thing about this performance wasn't the unflattering outfit or the body enhancements but the fact that her trademark smile was nowhere to be seen. Whatever she decides to do next, I just hope she is genuinely happy with herself and her choices. So many of us are still rooting for her and I don't know if she is even aware of that.
I won't speculate about her personal life, but if something is off behind the curtain like some of you are implying, I hope she has a good support system around her to make it through the wilderness. Madonna and her legacy deserve so much better than becoming another Hollywood cautionary tale.

Spotlight reacted to Candy Perfume Boy in Shake Your Head - Madonna Vocals HQ Remakes & Originals
    Hi,
So we know in 1992 Madonna refused permission to Was (Not Was) to release her unused 1982 vocals on the remix track "Shake Your Head (Lets Go To Bed)", so the remixes by Steve Silk Hurley had to be remade with Kim Basinger vocals. The full 12" remix with Madonna vocals was issued by error on "Now Dance 93" on vinyl and cassette only (these have quite poor sound), and the Madonna Dub was put on the CD "Somewhere in America there's a street named after my dad". The Kim Basinger version was then put out as the 12" remix and also had two official edits; the 3.45 "Single Remix" on the CD of "Now Dance 93", and just to really confuse everyone a different longer 4.00 edit on "Now 23"!!
In the folder there's all the official Madonna and Kim Basinger Versions, plus I removed Kim Basinger off the Now 23 edit and Single Remix to create Madonna and Ozzy versions, plus a solo Madonna Single Version. I also remade the 12" Remix with a CD rip removing Kim's vocals and overdubbing Madonna's vocals from my cassette rip. I'm really pleased with that one, at last it has a more pristine sound instead of crappy analogue rip quality.
So to avoid confusion they're all well labelled!
    We have;
    1. Single Remix - Madonna only vocals - fanmade
    2. Single Remix - Madonna & Ozzy - fanmade
    3. Single Remix - Kim & Ozzy - Official CD Rip
    4. Dub - Madonna & Ozzy - Official CD Rip
    5. 12" Remix - Madonna & Ozzy - Official Cassette Rip
    6. 12" Remix - Madonna & Ozzy - Digital remake with CD backing track
    7. 12" Remix - Kim & Ozzy - Official CD Rip

Stuart Price's remix from the Confessions era is my favorite version of this song, so I definitely stole his "let the DJ shake you" loop idea – no shame about it. I kept the flavor in the 80s as if it was remixed back when the song was released in 1982.
