No. YOU lay off the G. That "facelift" is not perfect. It doesn't match the original design, especially the photo. That's not how the photo appeared on the single or in the official 2001 calendar. Hold them in your hand and compare to the digital version.
The whole thing lacks the cohesiveness of the original design.

I think the whole Gaga fiasco was a mistake - for both of them. And I hate that the "MDNA" era is forever linked to that and the "reductive" comment.
They created a bitter drama that left a bad taste in everyone's mouths. It wasn't fun cause they both were 100% real about it. For Madonna, it was the first time she felt really threatened and it showed. It wasn't tongue in cheek like the Britney, Kylie T-shirts in 2000, etc., it was straightforward. It wasn't a great look, to be honest. I found the whole "Born This Way"/"She's Not Me" part in the tour (with the screens showing literally "little monsters" eating Warhol-like cans of pieces of Madonna's iconography) quite unnecessary.

Everyone knew "she's not you", thank you very much. And she was basically calling "stupid" a whole generation of Gaga fans.
It was reported that Madonna wanted Gaga to perform "Express Yourself"/"Born This Way" at some date of the "MDNA Tour" and use her to close the whole drama ("See? We're fine!"), but of course Gaga refused to be used like that. It was too late.
The "Born This Way"/"Express Yourself" comparison was talked to death in 2011 and 2012, yes. Gaga was still massive during the "Born This Way" era, coming from "The Fame" and "The Fame Monster", but the backlash had begun already and media was ready to use whatever they had to bring her down.
All Gaga had to do is say "yeah, I was inspired by the great legends of the 80s, Whitney, Madonna, etc." and move on but instead she denied everything, called "retarded" people who compared both songs and lied about Madonna giving her blessing to "Born This Way". Gaga thought she was smarter than everyone else. And then Madonna used it herself months later (when the whole thing was already dead, to be honest) to launch the "MDNA" album and get people talking about her.
Both of them acted like babies and both of them suffered the consequences. The Gaga backlash with "ARTPOP" was MASSIVE. And Madonna lost forever the next generation of young pop fans. She could have won them over, like she did with Britney and then brought them all in for the "Confessions" era. She lost. And "GMAYL" was her last true mainstream hit (and only in the US).

It's still a shit album and its masters should be sent into the sun to burn in it forever. I've never hated a madonna song ever before girl gone Wild and i still do. The whole era was her trying to compete with Gaga meaning she lowered herself to her awful asthetics and putrid dance music from a worst of the 90's compilation. It's badly written, badly recorded, badly produced, badly mixed and badly mastered. The cover is beautiful though. So is the whole photoshoot. The tour is messy, it's like a blockbuster movie that aged badly. The terrible "Joan of Arc" costume, the American Apparel socks as arm warmers...The whole first segment is unwatchable now. The best part is Love Spent/Like A Virgin and the finale. I remember how stupid she looked at the Miami Winter Dance Conference, the Paris Olympia fiasco,  the awful remixes, LMFAO, how bad she handled the MIA scandal....W.E. is the best thing she made during that era. MDNA marks the end of her creative recording career and success and, in retrospect, the Superbowl was like a weird ceremonial of killing Madonna, she arrives as a slaying and conquering queen and disappears into the void in the end. MDNA never felt like Madonna. It's cheap. It feels like an imitator, like a Madonna drag doing her act in a provincial bar.

If a small rock band like Garbage can remaster and re-release their 3rd studio album, originally released in 2001 with b sides, demos and remixes (including both commercially released and rare ones that collectors don't even know about) like they've done for their previous two albums (the 1995 debut and 1998's follow up Version 2.0), there's no reason M can't do something similar

DAT has been used by studios since the late 80s... Before DAT, a lot of studios used a machine called the Sony 1630 which would convert a digital audio signal into an analog video signal, which could then be read back into a digital signal by the same machine. Some used VHS, some used u-Matic tapes. Think of it like a video but each frame is similar to a QR code.
When you see 'From 1630 Source' on some of these in-house CDs, that's what it's referring to.

There is a CDR from 2001 that has the Holiday YCD remix 'from 1630 source' so I guess all of them would exist in that format.
The oldest warner in house studios DAT i have is from 1997.

It's digital data stored on tape. The way my studio is set up, the computer is in "slave mode" so even if it is receiving data at an imperfect speed, it's just writing out the 0s and 1s as it receives them so the recording ends up being the correct speed in the end. Same reason when you rip a CD, it doesn't have to be done in real time.
The fact that my transfer matched the streaming release proves both that the tracks are not remastered at all (GOOD!) and that I'm transferring DATs correctly
 
  
Eh I don't regret anything... sure some CDs I have I wouldn't pay as much today as I did at the time. But now I'm glad everyone can enjoy the remixes, and I wasn't planning to sell them anyway. So it doesn't make any difference to me I like to collect the cd-refs if I can get them on the cheap even if I don't need any of the tracks.
