Absolute trash. He can't style, light or set a scene like any of the other greats she's worked with. The overuse of filters is a giveaway that his images have little to know substance to begin with. He has degraded the royalty of what was once her brand. One is an icon, the other is simply, a con.

Madonna is the mold they all came from. Every single one of them. It's hard to look at pop culture and not see the influence of La Ciccone in every facet. She might not have invented certain things, but she made it accessible, and what's more, she made it possible. But the difference with Madonna doing it is that she did it for a cause. There was always a reason or an issue she was highlighting, or an idea she was rebelling against. What's the point of doing anything after Madonna did it anyway πŸ™‚Β

There are a few that come to mind, specifically it's usually a line and the way she delivers it.
The Power of Goodbye (demo version). The vocals are much softer on the demo and include additional lines. "God give me, the power of goodbye" always hit an emotional core. That feeling you know that something is destructive and you need to turn your back on it...
You'll See (instrumental). Yes, I know it's odd to choose an instrumental version, but this particular one includes a haunting line as a backing vocal; "all by myself, I don't need anyone at all". I would listen to this on repeat when I had first left home as a teenage runaway. I wanted to be that strong.
Oh Father. "I laid down next your boots and I prayed, for your anger to end". Always choked me up, because that was one of the reasons I had to leave home.
Has To Be. "I should be glad that I'm alive, it could've been much worse. I might have never loved at all, and never known what I am worth." This hit really hard when I found myself alone in Berlin.Β
Love Tried to Welcome Me. "And my heart has always been a lonely hunter". A reference to Carson Mccullers deep south novel The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, I presume. It's my favourite novel, and the way she sings this line... Achingly beautiful. Wish there was more information/interviews about the songs from this era.
Would just like to add: since my mum passed away, songs like Promise to Try, Mer Girl, Inside of Me, Like a Flower, Never Let You Go really pull on the heart in a way there never did before.
Special mention to Tragic Girl ❀️

I can't believe no one has mentioned her in my favourite Madonna film... Bloodhounds of Broadway. She was wonderful in that role and showed some vulnerability and depth in the character she was portraying. That role and the film meant a lot to her, considering what the director was going through and she was really there for him, as I think the rest of the cast and crew were in his final weeks.
Woody Allen, Tarantino, Spike Lee, all worked with her as well later on. Swept Away was the final straw though and I think that really broke her. And that's over 20 years ago. She would be great in so many of the television roles that have come about in those twenty years. But every time she took on a role she has something to prove and that must be a terrible burden for anyone; that everyone has already made their minds up that you're going to fail. Here in the UK, they referred to her as "the plank" because she was so wooden.Β
She would've been great in the silent era though; those eyes πŸ’œ
