There is literally no debate. It charted low because of the lack of the physical single while it was peaking on radio play. The fact that it charted at all showed the song was still popular. She performed it at the grammys, it got radio play and video play and was popular. I do think ultimately she ignored it because of its chart position and the other singles felt more significant. HOWEVER...it was originally going to be performed on RIT either as second song or third song with similar choreography to NKM with its backdrop being the same as NKM but with NRM lyrics obviously while NKM's original backdrop was going to be a video montage like Music or the then recent NKM adviddiva video.
Love the song fyi and its maxi is definitely one of her best.

I do remember being surprised when it was excluded from Drowned World. I'm really glad she gave it the attention it deserves, finally.

The remixes were amazing and loved the cover art for the CD single

Don't think the Grammy performance really did the song justice - she seemed to oversing it and just didn't seem to work live was a bit flat to me  - but absolutely loved how she performed and sang it on the Celebration tour. 
Think may have done better if it was the third single after Ray of Light. In the UK it was the 5th single after Power of Goodbye and Drowned World

She had a tendency to over sing during that era. She really perfected her voice by the time she went out on tour though.

Yes, I agree about the releases of those singles.  They took too long to release them and when it did, radio wasn't playing the songs as much.  POG should have been a top 10 in the U.S. and they could have made it happen if they made sure the single was out earlier. 
I think the non-single release of Beautiful Stranger irks me the most because that song would have definitely been a top 5 if not another #1 for her.  It reminds me how they handled Into The Groove in the U.S.  There is no doubt in my mind ITG would have been a #1 hit for her as well.

the rules changed right after (like, the literal week after) POG's peak, if you notice the week after the change the single fell a lot (from #11 to #30) , it all happened because those rules meant -in short- that pop radio got less weight and had to compete with country and R&B, and all of those airplay-only singles that were not eligible before got to chart... I think we got lucky POG got to #11 BUT had they released the CD single+maxiCD at the same time one or 2 weeks before (with the radio peak) , we for sure would've got another top 10.
They took too long , again.

I think we have a different understanding of Madonna40? I see it as the anniversary of Madonna's career debut, not just the first album. Like Mariah Carey had Mariah30 or something. I think Madonna40 is gonna be the campaign name for all the reissues, I was actually thinking about the debut album now. It's also the album I'm the least interested in lol 

So i did a club ep and passed some flacs and WAVS through a emaster type thingy and remastered them for club use

This is a reconstruction of the demo version of Into the Groove played during the end credits of Desperately Seeking Susan, created from the multitrack. I spent a lot of time making it match as closely as possible to create an HQ version of the demo. It uses the original bass and drum sounds and none of the instruments which were changed or added to the released mix or the Shep Pettibone mix.
4/8/22 UPDATE: This is a newly revised 2022 version which is closer to the sound of the demo version. This is my 3rd version and I think the final and best.
