It’s so wild to me that that remix hasn’t done better. I guess neither artists’ fans were feeling it. I think it’s great but apparently in the minority.
A thought crossed my mind while listening to some of the Lucas demos that @tscott has posted here. Diana Ross released a deluxe anniversary edition of her diana album a few years back and it included the original Chic mixes that she’d disliked and had Motown adjust prior to release. It would be cool if M did that with the original Lucas mixes or demos.
Granted we all know she’s picky about only allowing things to be heard the way she wants them heard, and we still don’t know what, if anything, we’re getting. But a boy can dream…
I don’t mind them. They’re a bit trebly but at least they sound clear. Granted I’m not a fastidious audiophile and just listen to music on my phone w/regular old ear buds. Gambler to me just sounds authentic of it’s time. Everybody is a bit tinny but then on Celebration it sounds muddy in comparison.
I don’t always have volume equalizing active bc while it helps sometimes, it inadvertently causes other occasional issues. TIC for example has a strange, progressive volume decrease with sound check enabled that doesn’t happen w/out it.
If they called Lu Con’t mix a Dub, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, as I do love the production.
So many fans just get so wet over it like the A&B Dub of What It Feels Like, that have hardly any vocals.
As dubs, I can really get into them.
Someone posted a fanmade vocal mix of the Lu Cont mix with most of the vocals and it was excellent!
I assumed so. They’re louder and have slightly better sound quality than some of the tracks.
That release is so weird. About half the tracks, including the dubs, are noticeably louder than the others. Not sure what was going on there.
I mean that’s kind of dubs in general tho, no? They’re just dj/remixer showcases. I get annoyed when they get included in remix singles. Leave them on white labels where they belong.
I’m still annoyed about the Like A Prayer remixes and that they made a big deal about the dubs they exhumed, even remastering them, while the dance mix, club version and extended remix sound like they’re lifted from an old Remixed Prayers cd.
I’d say they performed about the same in most major markets. EY is just more remembered. The Born This Way situation helped that a bit.
But he’s right, the IC mix of EY ctrl + H replaced the album version in the public consciousness, to the point I think some people don’t know the album version even exists. For a while I thought the same was going to happen w/LAP as the IC mix seemed to get all the recurrent airplay in the 90s-00s. I guess including the album version on Celebration saved it.

Who’d have thought MIA’s stans would be more supportive than the barbz…
Immaculate unfortunately did seem to fall out of favor in the streaming era after holding its own through the digital sales era. That’s why I think it’s nice they released that remastered for atmos version to sort of renew interest. Even if it won’t matter much on spotify.
It’s interesting how things vary from spotify to apple. On 🍎 it’s primarily the original album versions of her classics that get the highest streams. The power of playlisting I guess. Even TIC tracks stream better than their Celebration counterparts, which seem to get very little.

Thought this might be interesting to look at. Done by hand so hopefully not too many errors :/

Her first messy era. Miles Away release bungled and the brilliant Kanye track being left to flounder on the album. Secretly love that Candy Shop has such underwhelming streams even after she's pushed it on tour after tour after tour (her most performed live track ever?). Proof that Warner were right all along really.
MDNA
Girl Gone Wild - 46,653,404

Falling Free - 2,152,161
I Fucked Up - 1,569,293
Best Friend - 1,523,863
Bday Song and I Don't Give A showing the power of a feature I guess. The era where taste seemed to die for me and her first steaming released album era. We're into Maddona picking her own singles now and after the Justin success we move into features territory and you can see they really bolster the weaker songs. BDAY songs streams are a shocker to me. LoveSpent and I'm A Sinners low numbers were a bit of a surprise. In fact Masterpiece and Gang Bang aside Orbits songs really didn't seem to work any magic with the GP as all the rest of his contributions sit in the bottom half of the albums streaming numbers. Even his top streamed tracks only have about 1/6th of the top two streamed tracks. That's sad huh?
There's also a mad anomaly on the W.E. soundtrack. Masterpiece is only the third most streamed song. Charms and Dance For Me Wallis the instrumentals by Abel Korzeniowski have 11,874,069 and 29,278,973 streams respectively. Don't know what's going on there.

Beautiful Scars - 904,396
Borrowed Time - 547,148
Graffiti Heart - 453,241
Rebel Heart Avicci version in my iTunes - 1,656,989,091
What a project. I think as time goes on this feels like such a classic Madonna era besides all the leaks drama (which probably added to it, I personally loved the three stage drop of sections of songs and I'll never forgive that twerp who leaked them for fucking top Rebel heart as a single for us all. Her best in years.
MADAME X
Medellin (Maulma)- 68,5556,113
Faz Gostoso (Anitta)- 43,677,564
Crave (Swae Lee) - 14,678,815
Future (Quavo)- 13,451,337
God Control - 11,128,966
Bitch I'm Loca (Maluma) - 9,011,664
Dark Ballet - 8,903,218

Batuka - 5,619,204
Come Alive - 5,305,729
Killers Who Are Partying - 5,224,976

Extreme Occident - 3,735,814
Back That Up To The Beat - 222,811
Ciao Bella - 124,346
Funana - 73,666
And as her previous three eras leaned into we are well into the age of the features. All the songs on the top 6 are duets or features with the acceptation of the exquisite God Control which goes down as another Avicii Heart in terms of botched singles in the later part of Madonnas career.
SUMMARY
I suppose one of the things I learned is just how much of a go to Celebration (double disc version) is for her catalogue. Immaculate collection pales next to it really. This is Madonna Spotify playlist also features none of her singles from Immaculate Collection tracks, they're Celebration versions or the original album versions, which obviously weighs things out of Immaculates favour. Few of Immaculates tracks are combined too. Just (Crazy For You, Live To Tell, Justify My Love, Borderline and that odd Lucky Star 12" mix). I suppose when we get the next greatest hits the Celebration version on these list will be changed for the new GH and the plays combined, thus pushing that compilation as the definitive.
Some other cute anomalies are the Confession Tour version of Erotica -5,054,012 is nearly as popular as the Celebration version has about 2/3rds off the original album mix. In fact the Confessions Live album has really healthy streams, easily her biggest streaming Live album which is crazy as it's a pre streaming release. Vogue MDNA live 6,722,766- is her most streamed live track and has done the best numbers on the Sticky & Sweet Tour live album too.
The drop off after the lead and second singles is real in her last four albums. Bitch Im Madonna being the outlier here.
I agree completely! It’s stupid radio is even part of the equation anymore. It should be based off of streaming and to a lesser extent digital sales. Who even listens to broadcast radio that much anymore? Doctor’s offices and Uber drivers. And its corruption is well established- payola is real and thriving these days, and we all know how radio programmers will outright shut out some artists regardless of demand (i.e. women over a certain age). It just seems to be one of those things that’s only part of the system to justify its own existence and try to control what it can. Let it still exist as a promotional tool but keep it out of the charts I say.
/end rant 🤪
Ugh this was so hard lol. I stared at Physical Attraction and Lucky Star for a solid minute. Went w/the former bc it’s the extended mix of the latter that I love a little more than the av. Everybody too. And Burning Up. All of it really! Even my least fav I Know It isn’t completely insufferable.
I really do hope they have *something* planned for this anniversary. Even if it gets delayed slightly. I feel like the mythology so to speak around this album has only grown over the years. Generally speaking it seems to be the most beloved or highly regarded of her first three. The retrospective reviews and analyses have only got more positive over the years. Digitally it appears to be the highest seller of her pre-digital studio albums according to itunes.
Guy had already changed his insta profile pic to this cover before the news broke so hopefully that means something!
I know it probably wouldn’t happen but I’d love it if they’d officially upload all those old promo performances to her youtube account. Or even just do a playlist with them altogether.
I’ve gone down that rabbit hole before. It’s fun. There are so many! That and all the promo performances of LAV. There are like 5 from Japan. I’d love for her people to make things like that available on her official acct.

I was hoping we’d get the Power of Goodbye and Drowned World/Sky Fits Heaven eps. There are some good remixes there.
Real shot in the dark but I wish her team would drop the I’ll Remember single. The Orbit mixes are nice and chill.
Next year will be the 30th of BS and the 40th of LAV right around the same time. That’ll be interesting. We already have all the BS singles; maybe she’ll finally officially release that Tupac remix.
