I don't really believe this double album thing yet. Don't people believe that just because she's taking a long time in the studio and collaborating with many people? its not so different from the previous 2 albums.... it's just that we are now getting constant tidbits via instagram so it seems like more stuff is going on. 

 

I don't think she's in a creative place where she can actually make a double album. MDNA was a stretch with 16 songs when many weren't so fresh. If she's truly aware of that album's reception I'd think she would focus on making one great album, instead of reaching for 2 and risking putting out an imperfect release.

 

Just my opinion, don't mean to sound negative. Just being realistic... and also I am truly hoping this won't be "her last". Even though we know she'll keep working even if she ends her contract.

What We Know So Far: Madonna is spending a lot of time in the studio with Diplo…like, a lot. The DJ has already said that things got “super weird†in the studio. We imagine this is when he came up with a song reportedly called “B—h, I’m Madonna.†But amidst all that weirdness, Diplo managed to finish four or five songs for the Material Girl with help from producer Ariel Rechtshaid (Sky Ferreira, HAIM, Vampire Weekend). Madonna will not, however, be working with Disclosure on her 13th album. At least not this time around. Recently, Madge also teased a song named “Messiah,†believed to be the first single off her follow-up to 2012’s MDNA, with some medieval album art and the hashtag #unapologeticb—h. She sure is.

 

Why She Could Surprise Us: She is Madonna, a woman who built her empire on shock and awe, so yes, she could most definitely choose to surprise us.

 

How She’d Do It: Last year, she started the Art For Freedom campaign, a global initiative that brings awareness to human rights violations through creative expression. Madonna’s freedom would be to release her new album through the site she created, offering it as a pay-what-you-wish release with proceeds going to charity. The album would be available for different prices accompanied by different artistic assets á la Kickstarter. Fans could get her album along with photos of Madonna taken by her frequent collaborator Stephen Klein, or a short film directed by Madonna herself that’s scored with songs from the album. She could make the announcement of her surprise album via her Instagram, since we know how much Madonna loves her Instagram. However, we imagine the announcement will not include her son or alcohol.

 

Would She Actually: Yes, yes, yes. She’s the most likely to do it. She’s got nothing to lose and everything to gain. A surprise release allows her to forget about album sales and focus on her iconic status. Once again reminding us that we’re living in a material world, and she is, in fact, the Material Girl.

The hinted first single was finished prior to the jeremy party on September 11th. It's already October. The mixing/mastering should be done and the single ready for release.

I really think M13 is now done. It's probably finished when she IG'd the "Rebel Heart & Unapologetic Bitch" pillows with the caption "2 Sides to every story, I'm done" last week. The album is probably being mixed/mastered now.

yeah it's been very quiet lately.  Even DJ Dali tweeted that he was leaving NYC so I would think his work here on the album is done.  Not saying she couldn't still be toiling away but no instagram studio pics or paparazzi pics (that I've seen) of her going into the studio.  

 

Btw, does anyone know what studio she's been recording at in NYC?  I know MDNA was recorded near times square.

And there's rumors Magnus Lidehall finished the Avicii demos with Madonna. He originally co-wrote the demos back alongside Madonna & Avicii in March.

the hype has largerly dissipated, its now up to the music to sell itself (again). But hopefully we will get some promo next year to create some hype!

 

I'm still excited, but have put her album in the back of my mind for now.

I have a serious feeling Madonna is cooking up something very good and will have a more lasting impression than Hard Candy or MDNA, although I adore those 2 albums, they are not like LAP or ROL, which we need another long lasting album similar to those 2.

I actually fear some of her fans will dislike the "immature fun" part of it, but I think it's gonna be very good for what it will be. Certainly better musically than stuff like Girl Gone Wild which attempted to be more fun than it actually was imho. At least to me it just sounded like Rihanna's leftovers which isn't my kind of thang.

 

But there's also the introspective ones and hopefully that will be somewhat similar to Confessions, and elevate her to her rightful place above the rest of pop music's cliches.
