That was the WW release date. The US got it on October 9, 1986. so it could be either of those.

And again: Or simply, her music outside of the USA isn’t as powerful, and you don’t hear her songs unless you have a genuine interest in her.
For example I hear Dua Lipa all time on the radio, I know her singles but they never play Taylor Swift. So, honey, I don't live under a rock.

Outside of a few places she doesn't sell well or chart well either. In Austria where she had to cancel her show, she has sold very little albums there and has never charted well in that country despite selling out shows there. U2 has been one of the most succesful touring acts for decades now and so has the stones but when is the last time they had a successful album or hit single. Her tour for most overseas is just something that people are going to, in fact in some of the places she toured the crowd was mostly Americans not the locals who went to see her,  an example is in Spain she sold out shows but has like 2 hits singles from years ago and 1 album that charted well over there.

No she hasn't, Madonna has the most number 1 singles and top 10 globally for any artist and still has the most number 1 albums for any female artist globally. In Japan alone she has 25 number 1 singles  which is more than any artist on there billboard chart. True Blue is also the best selling album in Brazil, and she's also sold more albums there for any international act, she also still holds the record for attendance with 120,000, in fact Madonna overall attendance is 131, 000 in France and Taylor is 96,000 in Australia. My point is Madonna is globally more successful than her, Taylor wouldn't even be in the top 50  most succesful act in most of these countries including sales. I also believe on the US billboard despite all of Taylor tricks which I think will come back and bite her Madonna is still number 1 for solo act behind the Beatles. But I do blame Madonna team for not  updating  alot of her records/sales in Guinness and they barely promote her legacy.

I'm in a relationship with a  38 year old guy who's never heard Into the Groove till I played it to him this year. Some people just don't care about pop music and don't pay attention to hits.

Is this even a real conversation. Madonna IS the Queen of Pop. It is easy for someone like Taylor Swift to stroll through the doors that Madonna, and others, opened for her. She isn't paving any new paths or breaking down any barriers, and therefore, hasn't fought for anyone's rights or speak for those who can't speak out loud. She is safe and non controversial. She seems like a nice girl, but even Taylor knows Madonna is the Queen. I don't think that Taylor Swift has made any moves that will cement her place in pop music history. Just another popular star, one of many. In my opinion...

Exactly. When I was young, Madonna was everywhere. Her music was unavoidable, whether you liked it or not (the same was true for artists like Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, etc, etc, etc). I know who Taylor Swift is, but I only know her by name—I’m not familiar with her music or videos because they don’t interest me. So, in my view, her cultural impact is nowhere near that of Madonna

This is how I see this:
First of all, Madonna was famous all over the world and her songs where everywhere. Here is Spain, for example,  we know who is Taylor Swift but I don't see people singing her songs, buying her albums or dressing like her. It's like if she's admired for the success she has in the USA more than for her inpact in our country. Of course she made her shows here and was like "Wow, it's incredible how much people went to her concerts". She made 2 60.000 people concerts (120.000) that is great but the same two nights ACDC made two concerts with 70.000 people each night (140.000) and the news said nothing about it. It was like "We have to talk just about her". There are other artists here that get her success or even more but you only hear about what Taylor Swift does. All her "records" and all those things but you never hear her on radio stations or in a supermarket or in a car that goes near your house listening music very loud.
When I was young Madonna (and her work) was everywhere. And I remember even my grandmother knew who was Madonna (that bad influence for our kids).
I think Taylor has a great career, but is just because she's a good influence for people and they try to sell her as much as they can. Everything is so perfect around her... It's like living in Disneyworld. I think Taylor will have a problem if someday she makes a "mistake" and does something not bad, just a little incorrect... I think people won't forgive her. Madonna, on the other side was always the bad influence. She made what she wanted to make and that was a problem for a lot of people and that's why sometimes they don't recognize her talent. But that is what make her (and her inpact in sociery) so big. Madonna is the only artist that after something like "Sex" could still be there after 30 years (look what happened with Janet and her nipple, people don't forgive the good girls).
I think it's impossible to compare them because they are from different times and music industry is very different but I have one thing clear. What makes them different is that Madonna always have had people that love her and lots of people that hated her (and they help to keep her there, like it or not). Maybe Taylor has more people that loves her now but there's a lot of people that only feels indiference for her... And love always ends but hate...
