Yes that's what I imagined. One show I did see that I think looked more impressive than Madame X was Moulin Rouge. But tbh, it was the worst musical ever. All eye candy, no substance whatsoever. Hamilton was brilliant, I loved it but the set design was fairly simple.

I always imagined those touring versions were scaled back to be honest? I've seen both Wicked and Hamilton and neither looked bigger budget than Madame X to me though. In fact, my impression is that theatre being done cheaper and cheaper as the years go by. My main thought about MXT is that she could have explored more proper live arrangements of old songs, with more live instrumentation. That would have made it unique and special. But Madonna seems to like her backing tracks these days.
