Have to agree that she could have made her show better by including more recognizable hits. GMAYL could have at least been performed as an edit and still had the same impact. It did not need to be that long. Vogue and Like a Prayer were incredible. The rest was just ok. However, she raised the bar for how halftime shows were performed. There is a very clear distinction between the pre-Madonna and post-Madonna halftime shows.

Why is this mixed better than the majority of her approved live releases?

A lot of the same people who call out Madonna for surgery talk about how wonderful Cher looks 😅, so y’know I don’t think the general public is a great metric. I may be wrong but i wanna say Gimme gimme gimme was NOT a US single so it definitely got a boost from Madonna. She even sold their greatest hits at Confessions shows which was cute! But it definitely got a boost by M followed by Mama Mia and then Cher but I'm gonna be bold and say it was Madonna who made people remember/care about that particular song.

I just think her hits in the 80s are the most easily digestible. The lyrics are breezy, the sound is pure pop, the tone is fun, and she’s not introducing new kinds of instrumentation. Although she had hits in the 90s and beyond, the sounds were many times more experimental.
