Saw this on insta. It wasn’t on a Madonna related page, and idk where it originated from, but lol.

I remember there was a subset of fans, myself included, that emphatically wanted I’m Addicted to be a single/have been the first single. For years I swore up & down it was the lead single that got away. Recently I listened to it for the first time in a few years and it sounds dated af. I still think it could’ve possibly fared ok in place of GMAYL or GGW. It had that explosive edm chorus vaguely like Rihanna or gaga hits at the time.
For a minute there I wondered a couple years ago if history was going to come around to GMAYL and look favorably at it bc it’s sort of adjacent to that disney pop punk olivia rodrigo sound, but nah. That sound came & went and GMAYL is still not great.

But wait, track 1 is the album version, yeah? UGH. Ever since they put that on the D&W playlist it’s been siphoning streams from the Celebration version, which had been getting the highest streams. Since they’re not merged and they’re all getting mediocre stream totals it’s sabotaging her from making headway on any spotify chart or major hits/viral playlist.
They should pivot the focus back to the celebration track if they won’t manually merge but of course they can never get it quite right lol. 😭🤬

Is this official?

It is depressing. Good on that publication for stating it publicly.
It really seems like both she and her team didn’t care much about this part of it, or didn’t have much expectation. She was happy to collect that $31 million (that’s how much it was, right?) and make an appearance at the premiere but that was it.
She used her insta post about it to push the silver vinyl. She couldn’t even be bothered to use LAP in her ig posts or stories since.
Her team surely sucks but I wonder if it’s just her, or if it happens to a lot of other older artists. Maybe the ones w/strategic teams that keep their streaming presence tidy are in the minority, and lucky. I looked at Janet’s kworb page and saw a few of her hits with seemingly identical separate listings.
Warner’s never been the most strategic w/her, going back to the 80s. They never were the well oiled machine that knew how to play the game to maximum effect like what Whitney or Mariah had.

The numbers are actually pretty consistent considering it’s past the movie’s first two weekends.

She went up 2 spots on the ww monthly listeners chart to #90 too.

Girl you need to calm down! Yes it’s true it didn’t pop off quite as huge as that fuckass Nsync song but it’ still doing HUGE numbers compared to what it usually does, and what any of her catalog songs do. And that’s a good thing. It’s true her people could have done a few little things to maximize the numbers she’s getting but nothing she or they could have done would’ve changed this outcome.
Nobody’s gonna call LAP a flop bc of this. It’s a classic and always will be. Plenty of other songs featured in the prior films didn’t explode like Kate Bush either:

I agree the lack of CD companions or at least digital releases is annoying. I understand the exclusive release concept but...

So there’s definitely some label $hit going on w/that nsync song. I’ve been watching videos on youtube tonight- various pop, dance, synthpop, italo, hip hop etc from the 80s to 10s, and I swear for every video, under the “people also watched” recommendation section Bye Bye Bye (“from deadpool & wolverine”) was the first video. Reminds me of how people were complaining on twitter & tiktok how on spotify no matter what music they played Sabrina Carpenter or Chappell Roan would autoplay next.
Idk. As much as I wish M was having nsync’s #s rn I’d be sort of embarrassed if I saw that happening w/LAP.

The big $$$$$$ Marvel fee, which let's be honest, it's the most important thing here. No amount of streams will equal that, whatever the figure was (rumor says $31M which is crazy, not sure about that).
But in addition to that, it was the perfect opportunity to give the song a boost, her public profile a boost, etc.
It's depressing that a fucking defunct band like 'NSYNC, with a cancelled and hated Justin Timberlake, is getting all the flowers and attention, and also the chart re-entries, partly because their record company (and any team behind?) cares, while an active act like her, who could really benefit a lot from this to raise once again her profile for future endeavours (new music, her own movie, reissues) seems like she's completely detached from it.
It's not her own fault, but she should have a team and a label behind worrying about all these little but not so little things. It's literally part of their jobs.
Maybe it's time for Guy O to step aside. Not that he's helped much or at all in the last... 15 years? That's a whole lot.
Also Warner... guess they were too busy announcing yet another Cher project, a new greatest hits (at least she gets stuff done).
