I know how Italian people is orthodox when it comes to pizza, esp the Napolitan, as it is a universal belief pizza came originally from Naples (however Marseille and their pissaladière would have a thing or two to say otherwise, hehe). Anyway it's a Greek thing as both Naples (Neapolis) and Marseille (Marsilia) were founded as Greek ports as the several other ones spread by Mediterranean - even Lisbon claims to be originally Olisipo, another town founded by Greeks.
