  1. I remember when I bought this LP.  It was the reissue with Into The Groove, but my favorite song was Over And Over. :)

I couldn't stop listening to the album, and I still think that the cover is the most beautiful picture of a woman I've ever seen.

The popular Swedish pop magazine OKEJ wrote in an early September issue (#18, 1984) that they had an early promo of the album, and they thought that the best songs was Material Girl, Over And Over, Dress You Up and Stay.

They thought that the choice of Like A Virgin as the first single was a so-so move, since they thought that it was the weakest song on the album!
Dress You Up would, according to OKEJ, have been a much better choice.

One of the journalists from OKEJ was in New York in early July, 1985, and was offered the exclusive chance as the only Swede to meet and interview Madonna at Live Aid.
He had to turn it down. The Military Service was waiting for him back in Sweden, and he HAD to do it.

  2. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Stop staring blindly at anniversary dates. You're only setting yourselves up for disappointment.

Lots of landmark albums by other artists were not reissued on any anniversary:

    Howard Jones: Dream Into Action.
Originally released on 11th of March, 1985. Deluxe box set released on 30th of November, 2018

    George Michael: Faith.
Originally released on the 2nd of November, 1987. Deluxe box set released on 31st of January, 2011

Bruce Springsteen: Darkness On The Edge Of Town.
Originally released on the 2nd of June, 1978. Deluxe box set released on 16th of November, 2010.

The list goes on and on.

The fun little EP:s that Madonna releases, Who's That Girl 35th Anniversary, and the 20th anniversary remix of American Life is not the same as putting a big deluxe edition together.

Now IF Inside The Groove was correct when he said that Madonna worked on the reissue project a few months ago, that tells me that it's cooking, but not ready yet. Or maybe it's in pre-production? Who knows?

Some say that she's had years to put everything together, but it's not like putting together a mixtape. Just look at the Prince boxes. There is ALOT of work behind them, and it took a LONG time to get them done.

  3. Anniversaries can be very off these days, you know that.

Twisted Sister's album Stay Hungry was released on 10th of May, 1984, and the 40th anniversary is coming on 4th of October, 2024, so... Exact dates are apparantly not important in the record business.

With the risk of once again upsetting Debbie Downer (It'll never happen, you're dreamers, bla bla bla) I still think the deluxes are coming when Madonna think they're ready for it.

Inside The Groove said not too long ago that Madonna worked on the deluxes last summer, but Rhino/Warner has to have a say in the matter too, and then there are probably a thousand small details we're not aware of that Madonna and Rhino/Warner picks apart. We all know how important details are to Madonna.

With that said, I agree with some here. It's too late for an announcement this year. First we have the rumoured Bedtime Stories remix ep, and then we have Christmas.

Something might happen in February, when Christmas is over, and we have money again.

Unless Record Store Day..? No, shut up @Celebration. You're upsetting yourself now.

I often think about donating my collection to a place that preserves historical items like records, videos, and so on, before I pass away. I want to make sure it is preserved for future generations. However, where I live, I’m not sure where to do that—there’s only a small library.

I think I'll tell my family to keet what they want to keep, and sell the rest on eBay.

I have already my record collection on discos, That can help them see what is worth some money...

The "HEY" "WHAT???" call and response of the dub is exactly the type of stupid to get me through this Friday morning.  Loving it.

It's in the Silver Screen Mix too.

It's taken from the Color Mix of True Blue. I was quite surprised the first time I heard that. :)

So Causing A Commotion is one of my favorite maxi-singles with Madonna, and I'm so happy that it's finally on-line. :)

By the way: Rhino is promoting it with a short clip where they use... the LP version to promote the remixes!

Thank you so much! Does anyone know if this makes the time lenghts of the Yellow CD?

The dance mixes match both the yellow cd and my German 12". The dub is 7.03.

The Silver Screen Single Edit is 4.00 on my German 7" pressing, and according to discogs, the same remix is 4.06 on the Holiday Collection cd, which explains why I always thought it sounded a bit slow compared to the 7".

  7. The three acts that taught me English were Twisted Sister, Dolly Parton and Madonna.

They were the ones I listened to as a child and since I wanted to know what they were singing about, I asked around and used my mother's English dictionary alot. :)

It was the music and their voices that attracted me to their music, long before I understood what they were singing abot. It's still that way with Mylene Farmer, for example. She's a superstar in France, and absolutely amazing, but I don't understand her lyrics.
    Fortunately, I understand art.

Later when my English was much better, lyrics became more and more important. Björk caught my attention, partly because her lyrics were so unusual.

I consider myself pretty fluid in English these days. My grammer is all over the place, but I have no problems holding a conversation in English.

    My first language is Swedish.

I mean she pushed the silver vinyl in her insta post about the premiere so I’d wager that’s likely all there is for now.

Not that I agree w/it but I can see her sorta old school sales driven business mind thinking let’s leave it off the soundtrack to try to encourage people to buy my record.

I also recall someone posting a reddit screenshot in the last week or two about how she held off the movie versions too presumably to be on a deluxe thing and we got the movie digital ep this weekend instead. 🤷‍♂️

Deluxe versions of a movie soundtrack are usually released long after the film comes out. The standard edition must sell and run out first (obviously, practices can vary depending on multiple commercial and creative factors).

    I read this too somewhere.

*SPECULATION* She's alledegly saving Like A Prayer for a 35th anniversary edition later this fall.
    Who knows? Maybe it's true.

I agree Madonna's version of Love won't wait didn't age very well, but Gary's version was a #1 single and sold 200.000 units in UK. So, I think Madonna or Shep really liked him.

About the topic, if the rumour is true and she relases, at least, 1 or 2 unreleased songs is a very good sign for further releases.

I gave it a shot and listened to Gary's version, and I still think it's a weak song, despite of sales and charts.

Npw. Like you say about the rumoured Bedtime EP. I totally agree.  :)

I completely agree about the quality of the album, really underrated (it's among my top 5 for sure), the Love won't wait omission mistake and the substitution of Don't stop.

At the same time, let me just add that the Pattibone session imo is interesting not to integrate the album but to enjoy and learn about the creative process, the way she took some ideas and made them evolved into something completely different as she left the work with Pattibone to follow the new R&B direction she wanted to take.

My idea is that we'll probably have at most the demos of the early Secret stage "Something's coming over", wich is told to be a house, Erotica style piece, with many differences also in terms of melody, wich could fit this annyversary release including REMIXES and demos, and (if lucky, as the only ballad) the "Inside of me" early version ("I will always have you"), also told to be very different in terms of melody and sound (apparently more acoustic like You'll see and Crazy for you). What I mean is that I hardly see her releasing new songs, never heard tracks, but just remixes and a pair of good early stages tracks.

I disagree. I absolutely think that Love Won't Wait is a weak song and that Don't Stop has its rightful place on the album.

Why she (or Pettibone?) gave LWW to Gary Barlow I'll never understand. Maybe she doesn't like him.

But the release is only 1LP

Like I said: It's probably in the same style as the American Life record we got last year, to celebrate the album.

It's not a super deluxe edition of Bedtime Stories. That'll probably come later.

This time, we get demos and stuff from that era. I think it sounds terribly exciting. :)

LOL. no one was referencing the REBEL HEART album.  I am not saying every album reference will be due to the 40th.  I think some fans aren't making a connection. The LIKE A VIRGIN album was HUGE 40 years ago. It was bigger than her first album.  It was when she dominated.  LANDMARK!!!  1985 was a HUGE year for her, so 2025 very much could be the year she and her record label will recognize such. The whole "birthday" thing is based on a very few times she used it to announce something.  I wouldn't always count on that date as something official to be announced.

I remember the Virgin era. Her face was everywhere and her music was played all the time on the radio.

And regarding Rebel Heart. I was just making a little fun of all the people here who insists on all these anniversaries. 10th, 20th, 30th... It would just look messy.

I hope that once the reissue program starts, we wil see two deluxe releases a year for a few years.
Will every album get a super deluxe edition? We don't know. If a few of them don't get that, they'll probably just be released as remasters with a bonus disc or something.

I'm betting on LAV40. but there has been talk that both the first album and LAV could be combined somehow.  There is no doubt, that she and her team are finding ways to capitalize on her 40th Anniversary. Obviously, it's not as fan expected or as easy as some try to make it. The Celebration Tour and The Deadpool and Wolverine are definitely great ways to get things going, but we'll have to see what else comes of it.  There is no doubt the few merchandise releases of LAP is due to the Marvel film. They are using that to make a connection. It makes sense as Madonna always been about capitalizing on pop culture. It's all about getting the general public energized about her positively. So far she and her team is securing that.

I'm sure that Virgin will get its own release. It's one of her most important albums, so a combination is in my opinion unlikely.
The combination is a fan theory anyway, so I don't take that too seriousely.

I don't think it'll be called 40th anniversary, just deluxe edition. If we're gonna wait for every album to turn 40, half of us will be dead by Rebel Heart's 40th.

I think (hope) the first deluxe will be released before the end of the year, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if pre-orders will be made available on her birthday.

I know I'm on repeat but a 40th of her debut really would've been such a fun nostalgic re release and could've finally got her debut to a number 1 spot global charts too ....especially as we won't have a new album in such a long time still it would've been a great way to extend her record title for sure

As for Like a Prayer im ecstatic seeing the love for the album and I'm excited the song is used in Deadpool and wolverine so much....so hopefully streams will bring more awareness to the era

Keep the faith. Many artists release these anniversaries a year too late.

Cyndi Lauper: She's So Unusual was released in 1983, but the 30th anniversary was released in 2014.

Twisted Sister: Under The Blade was released in 1982, but the 40th anniversary was released in 2023

    So there's still hope for "Madonna40". :)

    I told you! :)

Also. Edward had this to say just a few moments ago_

Proper deluxe reissues ARE coming. When they’re finally announced, I’ll explain how I knew in advance.
In the meantime, these stop gap reissues are really tiresome.
