I’d have to agree that with hindsight, Madame X makes for a tedious listen. It also happens to correspond to a time in my life that was particularly difficult, and so I don’t have any peripheral memories to bolster any affection for it. Intellectually, there is a concept behind the album, but it fails to ever deliver on fully developing what could have been a master work. The production, dare I say, is what truly drags the good songs into the mud. I think Medellin, Dark Ballet, Killers, Crazy and Crave are the closest to achieving their sonic goals, but even the gorgeous Come Alive, Extreme Occident, Looking For Mercy and I Rise are just plain burdened with unnecessary vocal filters, and either kitchen sink production or meandering studio tricks that never build to a satisfying conclusion. The inclusion of Faz Gostosa is baffling as it belongs on a totally different album, and there are no words to ever describe how angry Bitch I’m Loca makes me as a total waste of space that, in addition to being substandard, adds to the disastrous interruption to the flow of the album that its predecessor begins. Five years later I am quite certain that the overuse of pitch correction and auto tune was a grotesque miscalculation that renders the entire project less heart-driven and soulful, when that is exactly what these songs needed the most. The fact that Madonna hasn’t released an album since makes me wonder if her creative force has been spent, which is truly a shame as I had always hoped for her deepest most insightfully introspective and philosophical work to continue to evolve out of the experiment that was Madame X.

The fact that its heavy-handed approach trumps Hard Candy’s basic lack of appeal to me in making it to the bottom of the list says a lot! At least HC delivered an era that brought joy and smiles to many on a stellar global tour. On tour, Madame X seemed determined to either kill me by asphyxiation from overheating in the stifling theater settings or drive me to suicide with its general darkness, only heightened by Madonna’s constant pain. A very strange era in Madonna’s storied career. Perhaps it will be revisited differently in the future, but upon recently trying to listen to it, I felt the distinct combination of indifference, boredom and sadness. Not a good look.

That is true! True Blue was originally not going to be a single at all. I think it was rush-released because radio stations loved it and it received airplay without beibg a single.

I thought it was nasty how she sued Olivia Rodrigo and was so mean to her. Imagine starting your career and your fave demands writing credits for songs that sound nothing like hers. It was just a nasty bullying move

I didn't mean to associate her "playing the victim" behavior with white feminism. Although she uses feminism to promote herself and her white (and mostly blonde) friends, she tends to portray herself as a victim in various situations. Whether it's conflicts with Kanye West, Katy Perry, Kim K., ex-boyfriends, or "haters", she often portrays herself as being wronged and reinforces this in her songs.
Suing a college student for revealing her frequent plane trips, which contributes to her being the biggest celebrity CO2e polluter, is an example of her behavior. In this case, she's not taking on big industry players, but instead targeting a student who is far more concerned about the environment than she is.
She chose to express her support for Kamala only after Trump fell in the latest polls. However, she didn't say anything about the worsening situation for women in the Middle East. Instead, she chose to defend Lady Gaga's body from "haters" on Instagram or whatever.
For an artist of her caliber, she selectively chooses the battles where she can shine, often at the expense of the other party. What's worse is her fans' willingness to perpetuate this behavior, rather than critically analyzing the individual they admire.

I started to dislike Taylor Swift when a fan of hers died at a concert in Rio this year due to dehydration. She didn't even stop the show, call for help, or offer to cover the fan's travel costs to their home state after their death. Other FANS had to pass the hat to raise money.
Taylor then decided to offer a free "meet and greet" with the family of the deceased girl as a PR stunt to appease the situation. It just didn't feel genuine.
But hey... it wasn't her fault that a fan died during a concert, right?

Thank you, this is what I’ve been trying to say from the start.
There are modern artists whose music I don’t particularly enjoy, but you still end up knowing their singles, even if you don’t want to. With Taylor Swift, though, it’s different. I know her as a successful singer because of the news and the internet, but I’ve barely heard any of her music on the radio, TV, or elsewhere, unlike artists like Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, and others, whose music I come across more frequently.
And that's why I believe, in my opinion, that Madonna's music is well-known worldwide, while Taylor Swift's music isn’t as widely recognized

Does Taylor have 400 million records sold?  Has she had a successful career for 40 years?  Any awards for best actress?  Does every female pop artist copy her style and concert script? Does Taylor Swift reinvent herself for every era?  Nope!

That is very true. However, a lot of extremely obsessive fanbases (mainly Chinese, Japanese and Korean) use certain software (so called "streaming farms") to stream song or music in an endless loop but with quadrupled streams. Taylor has these obsessive fans, especially in the aforementioned countries. Her marketing is modeled and shaped after that of the KPop industry, which is highly manufactured and calculated in every regard, even the private lives of their artists.

In order to have cultural impact, you need to be an innovator that initiates a certain kind of shift in the industry.
For example: When Lady Gaga appeared on the scene, you could feel and see how much other artists changed in order to be able to compete with her. The entire music industry went "Gaga". THAT is the kind of cultural and LASTING impact that Hitlor Swift will never have.
Taylor is a quantity over quality artist. She released 8 albums over the course of 4 years. That is the reason she is pulling these numbers. Does anything she do musically, fashion-wise or in other regard directly influence other artists, so that they start to adjust? No. Because she only has success, no true impact. She's a businesswoman, not much of an artist. She has a terrible voice, she can't dance or perform. She can write songs (many of them being extremely formulaic and following the same pattern). Her music is just extremely digestible, inoffensive, plain and perfectly adjusted to her target audience.
This is precisely, why she will never be viewed in the same way as someone like Madonna, Michael Jackson or Lady Gaga. These three actually had a kind of impact that went way beyond the money making machine that is Taylor.

I can agree with that. I'm serious, not joking, I'm not sure at all she could have the age/radio kind of problem. Not cause M paved the way for others of course, but because Taylor is excatly what they want her to be. The pretty girl next door, kind and nice all the time, talking about emotions, especially love and private stuff, no politics, no polemics, no troubles, singing easy listening melodies, where experimentation is a plausible word only if we start from Disney's soundtracks, wearing soporific princess dresses with empty sparkling smiles stamped on her face, being also indipendent and empowered of course, but only as a proper girl next door can be, not more not less. And I think she'll go on like this all the way through: not more not less than what expected and acceptable. I think she could find a way to adapt herself to what acceptable over 35. So maybe she'll manage to go on ... untill a new generation will wake up and simply get the bore of her thing.
