Madonna will pay tribute to Prince with a live performance at the Billboard Music Awards this month.

Billboard and Dick Clark Productions told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Madonna will honor Prince at the May 22 show. Specific details about the performance weren’t revealed. The Billboard Awards will air live on ABC from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Ludacris and Ciara will host the show, which will include performances by Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Pink, Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber. Prince performed at the 2013 Billboard Awards, where he received the icon award.

The 2016 Billboard Music Awards are set to return to ABC and will be broadcast live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, May 22 at 8:00pm ET/ 5:00pm PT. The show will showcase this year’s hottest and biggest music stars.  Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, radio airplay, streaming, touring and social engagement. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The awards are based on the reporting period of March 23, 2015 through March 17, 2016. The 2016 Billboard Music Awards is produced by dick clark productions. Allen Shapiro, Mike Mahan, Mark Bracco, Barry Adelman and Robert Deaton are Executive Producers.

Not even Prince's own live versions worked of that song, unfortunately.

 

Nobody knows Love Song, so it will most likely be one of his ~8 biggest hits (1999, Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, Raspberry Beret, Kiss, Cream).

Hope for I wanna be your lover, Cream or Alphabet Street, and I'd die for her to perform a Sexy M.F. sample, but I'm persuaded it's gonna be an '80s one. Anyway, if she's not gonna go too far this time, I'm sure it will be HUGE!!! Just started my countdown.

It would be dope as hell if she did Gett Off with her butt out as a tribute (she probably won't but still), just thinking about dance-themed Prince performances from the past  :heart:

 

Didn't he quit performing the likes of Gett Off & Sexy MF some 15 years ago? I don't see her honoring him with a song like that but it would be awesome of course.

I hope not. There was a point to the speech about MJ in 2009 and even then almost no one understood what she was trying to say. AP said it was a performance so I hope they weren't wrong.

It might not be a cover. It might be a song Prince was involved with for Like A Prayer in tribute. Of course there's Love Song or maybe Keep It Together, but not likely as the subject is family so wouldn't be fitting. She may possibly do Like A Prayer? I hope not though. Obviously i have mountains of love for LAP but she's kinda done it a lot.
