I dare to say that she was good in Swept Away. And in retrospect she was not so bad in Who's That Girl. Body of Evidence was tragic, the entire film. Her performance was robotic and cold while her look/wardrobe were terrible, but the other actors were awful too. I think she was channeling Dietrich's Witness for the Prosecution. She made a fool of herself and was funny when it was not intended; the candle scene was lame and laughable and the line: "That's what I do, I fuck" was appalling. But her worst film ever was "Shangai surprise", I couldn't finished it. Dick Tracy was a bore beyond belief, but she comes off as a very convincing Marlene Dietrich (again), meaning she is a stunning presence but nothing else in that film. She actually steals the film, overshadowing the other actors.

    Yes it did.

Release time killed Erotica sales. The album should've been released BEFORE Sex book and before The Body of Evidence.

Yeah, I'm about to unfollow Katy Perry because if I see one more show she tries to hawk... lol!  And I love her and her quirky self.  It's just annoying because sometimes these artists don't post so much regarding their career and then when they a product to sell, they are on socials 24/7 posting. At least when Madonna started the MDNA line she started a separate account to hawk those products.  Sometimes it would carry over to her own account, but at least she made these grand videos that made it more interesting.

It's true that artists repeatedly "sell out" through their careers where they endorse products they don't care for but I think we're in an era where its transparent enough that most of us ignore all of that stuff. I had to unfollow Lady Gaga on social media because she was annoying me with her make up brand and a lot of fans feel the same way. The struggle between the artists and the labels of art vs. marketing and promotion is getting to a point the music industry is something to just ignore unless you wanna be irritated by stupid lyrics and false images of people

Unfortunately, her teaming up with Interscope didn't help her music catalog.  It doesn't help that she and her management was left to the promotion pretty much on their own.  MDNA had a good opportunity with the Superbowl, but then after that the singles just were pused aside and the focus was majorly on the tour.  I understand though because she was getting at the point the mainstream formats that used to play her music wasn't willing to play and promote her anymore. So now, she had to rely more on touring, which she had already been doing for several years now.  I personally have no issue with the Interscope album. I rather enjoyed them.  No doubt, the singles were used to help gain attention to the album because let's face it, any other songs from MDNA wouldn't have commercial appeal.  One could pretty much the say the same for Madame X album as well. To me, "Crave" was probably the only really commercial song that had a chance on that album.  And if she was a few years younger, I am sure "Crave" would have been a smash. Without those commercial/universal appealing songs, the albums would have definitely gotten no exposure at all.  Remember, artists are interested in appealing as many as possible, especially if they are looking to earn a chunk of change.  This is why you see so many doing so many side projects, selling products and doing a lot more product placement commercials.

It just doesn't work for me at this age for another album cycle. I really do think she should have stopped with all of that retreading similar vague concepts. "Give Me All Your Luvin'", "Girl Gone Wild", "Turn Up the Radio". I just can't with that stuff. She did enough of that and she did it very well but we didn't need more of that. It really is jarring to reach that part of her videography. It's been 15 years and I still think Celebration wouldn't need anything more added to it past the title track, nothing that came after could be added and increase the quality of it whatsoever imo. It was extremely smart timing to release that honestly. I think it was her last release under Warner and that's probably why it exists but still it really did work out extremely well as a product.

Maybe if BAT had been remastered and released later on I'd feel more about it but that's probably never gonna happen Although TGS didn't need any of that digital wizardry for me to love it all the way through I guess. I'm having fun revisiting tons of eras today and learning about things I probably knew years ago but forgot like cancelled singles and original album tracklists and things. Always been obsessed with M but I took a few years away mainly because I didn't like Madame X at all. I still enjoyed that concert film though! She does create enjoyable shows and imagery regardless of the music but I do think lyrically and sometimes musically she took a nosedive. And now I'm older I can't really care for the bulk of Hard Candy or MDNA because I just think they exist for the sake of it for the most part. They feel redundant. I feel progression watching Celebration: The Video Collection but I feel if it continued from there I don't need the rest of it. She became more about the shows I think.

"La Isla", "Prayer" and "Vogue" could be avoided at this point, though? I don't think so...
"Human Nature" and "Burning Up", I love them both to death but they need to rest, especially "HN".
I just would love her to dig deeper on the deep cuts or underperformed songs. "Nothing Really Matters", "Erotica", "Bad Girl", "Bedtime Story"... they were all great gifts on the last tour.

So here we go, without news or confirmed projects, time to make our lists!
I will be ok if she removes the next songs on her tours from now:

La Isla Bonita (tbh, all the abum can have a long rest)
Like a Prayer (same as before,, and it's difficult to reinvent it as a concept because it's always linked to a religious section)
    Human Nature
Vogue (It doesn't disturb me when it comes though)
    Burning Up

All the 80's albums are over-performed!

    Your choices?

But that main character arc fits all of that. Her mother dies, her friends die, she becomes famous to try and heal her heartache and discovers it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. Has children and finds happiness as a mother. The end.
To be honest, either could work as a great movie. It just depends what story she wants to tell.
Taking it past late 90’s though would be a mistake as it would just drag on way too long. And I agree, the Guy Ritchie years, whilst interesting wouldn’t work for this project.

We know that but as character development is great. Since Madonna arriving with little to NY. Famous artist friends and boyfriends.
Giving tapes around blah blah.  Bands, danceteria.
Fighting the music industry and the norms,LAV wedding cake. AIDS, losing friends. Sean bloody Penn. LAP drama. Bye Pepsi.Madonna proving everyone that's a strong independent woman: 'C'mon girls  do you believe in love!' C'mon Vogue. The End.

I've always thought that the best material for the biopic is M's rise to fame and the very early days of her fame.. That's where the most interesting things happened, she was surrounded by the most interesting artists, and there's most material for a serious movie.
Even when Madonna is retelling the stories of her life, she talks the most about her early days, and her relationships on the art scene of the early 80's. Keith Haring, Basquiat and Martin Burgoyne are more interesting than Guy Ritchie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Mini Coopers
A huge part of M's life and career is breaking one record after another while the press is mean to her. Sure, it's interesting for a segment in the movie, but you can't make a whole movie about it.
The late 70's and early 80's is where the juice is.

@Redha DBL isn't a shame that Terumi got relegated to play Madonna? (She also did M to that HBO's Dennis Rodman biopic.)
Kind of what happened to Regina Restelli (or Regina Restellieux) here in Brazil:
and, of course, Regina's from Italian heritage too.
A local report (in pt-BR) with Regina around the time Celebration Tour got confirmed in Rio:

But ofc Regina nowadays would never be able to play M.

The craziest thing, I still stomach Shanghai because she looks so beautiful and is very endearing in that film. The chemistry between her and Sean really shines in that film. It's just too bad the story is crap.  There is an adventure film in there that could have been great for them, but it just wasn't a good story.
I always felt The Next Best Thing was the "lifetime" feel movie. While entertaining once they got on the island, the acting in Swept Away from her before that was over the top and just awful.  I think her best acting was in Dangerous Game. Unfortunately, it was a horrible film and she has every right to be disappointed in how that film turned out.
I think she has great comedic value.  This is why WTG and a lot of her SNL appearances worked for me.  I also feel like she can poke fun of herself.  Another stint I enjoyed was her in STAR.  I thought she was hilarious. She really was a sport in doing that as she and Guy took on a lot of stereo stypes in being a Superstar in that short film.

I honestly HATE reading people say Evita is a very long music video. It's not only ignorant towards sung through musicals but it's something that the critics said back in 96 and people just keep repeating like parrots til this day. I'm surprised to see fans in this group saying this atrocity.

While this is a direct quote I’m wondering if it is out of context? Because we know these aspects are what she worked with the director to change about the portrayal from the stage version. This is also one of the reasons Another Suitcase was changed to Madonna, to show the more vulnerable side of the character. It is also probably the intention of You Must Love Me, to show that the relationship between Peron and Eva was genuine and that he took care of her when she was sick. So I don’t believe Andrew was against her interpretation at all as he has always praised her and added YMLM into the stage version. She did afterall spend a lot of time researching her and meeting people that knew her.
And even though Madonna claims Andrew was not nice to her (from the live stream with Diablo Cody) he attended Madame X and I believe likes and respects Madonna. He has gone on record as saying he would love her to do the movie version of Sunset Boulevard.
When you look at the track record of his musicals that have been turned into films Evita is the only one that was a real success.
