On this day (August 10, 1985), 29 years ago, Madonna‘s 2nd studio album Like A Virgin became the 1st album by a female artist to sell 5.000.000 copies!Like A Virgin has sold more than 21 million copies worldwide (more than 10 millions in USA) and became one of the best-selling albums of all time.All songs were produced by Nile Rodgers, except Into The Groove produced by Madonna and her former boyfriend Stephen Bray.What’s your favourite song from Like A Virgin?

She brought vogueing—a style of dance started in New York’s gay club scene—to the mainstream and featured footage from a gay pride parade in her tour documentary, “Truth or Dare.†She also featured gay, lesbian, and bisexual affection in “Truth or Dare,†the “Justify My Love†video and her “Sex†book. This was still in the early 1990s, before it was a trendy thing for female pop stars to do. More recently, Madonna has spoken out against bullying, anti-gay laws in Malawi and Russia, and the Boy Scouts’ anti-gay policy. Madonna’s advocacy for the LGBT community was acknowledged when gay news magazine, “The Advocate,†named Madonna “the greatest gay icon†in 2012.There you have it. From the eighties to nineties to now, LGBT representation in music has a long history. Whether they’re a pop icon or an unknown independent artist, these artists have used their position to help make progress for LGBT people. Boxing legend Thomas Hearns praises Madonna and describes her as a hero in the boxing community for saving Detroit Downtown Youth Boxing Gym.The gym’s main building was condemned, so Madonna‘s donation will allow the place to make renovations and continue to operate.
 
Talking with TMZ, Thomas Hearns – who grew up in Detroit – says that Madonna‘s generosity will have a huge impact with young boxers and the community as a whole.I think it’s awesome for her to help, being as big as she is.
