  1. Had the same thought except the radio would have to cut or censor the "students rape their teachers" line I feel. Also, Crazy instead of I Rise would've been a good idea I think. To prove she can still make straightforward bops when she feels like it. Joan of Arc I could see having some radio appeal too, as a change of pace to the bangers. Sooner or Later could've done as well as Hanky Panky too in my mind. Back in Business may have been less commercially successful than Hanky Panky or SOL but also deserved a chance to shine, as a fourth single perhaps.
  2. I was thinking about tracks that deserved more recognition and could've become hits if released as singles and also just which of her singles do you think shouldn't have been? Can't Stop from Who's That Girl and Where's the Party (especially the You Can Dance version) easily could've been decent hits in the 80s for her in my opinion. Another one I think of immediately is Ghosttown as the lead for Rebel Heart, or the Avicci version of the title track perhaps? Time Stood Still deserved to be a single more than American Pie too in my opinion, though AP commercially did well here in the UK.
  3. "You're so fine and you're mine I'll be yours 'til the end of time 'cause you made me feel Yeah, you made me feel I've nothing to hide" "When your heart beats next to mine" "Some boys romance, some boys slow dance" "Only boys that save their pennies make my rainy day" "Your love thawed out what was scared and cold" ''Cause everybody's living in a material world" "They can beg and they can plead But they can't see the light 'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash is always Mister Right" "I made it through the wilderness Somehow I made it through Didn't know how lost I was until I found you" "Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me I think they're okay" "Experience has made me rich, and now they're after me" "You're never going to see me standin' still I'm never going to stop 'til I get my fill It doesn't matter who you are It's what you do that takes you far" "Come to me, baby, don't say maybe" "Music can be such a revelation Dancing around, you feel the sweet sensation We might be lovers if the rhythm's right I hope this feeling never ends tonight" "You'll feel it in my kiss, I'm crazy for you" "Eye to eye we need no words at all" "Strangers making the most of the dark Two by two, their bodies become one I see you through the smokey air Can't you feel the weight of my stare? You're so close but still a world away "I'm tired of dancing here all by myself Tonight, I want to dance with someone else" I know she didn't write all of these herself but they're still my favourite from the LAV era. I'm tempted to go era by era to try to work out my favourite lyrically.
  4. Except from "shine your heavenly body tonight" these are all my favourites from Self Titled. The singles really did the heavy lifting lyrically. "Something in the way you love me won't let me be I don't want to be your prisoner, so baby, won't you set me free Stop playing with my heart Finish what you start" "Something in your eyes is making such a fool of me" "Just try to understand I've given all I can 'Cause you got the best of me" "You love me till I just can't see But then you let me down, when I look around Baby, you just can't be found" "Do you wanna see me down on my knees? Or bending over backwards, now, would you be pleased? Unlike the others, I'd do anything I'm not the same, I have no shame I'm on fire C'mon, let go" "Don't put me off, 'cause I'm on fire And I can't quench my desire Don't you know that I'm burning up for your love? You're not convinced that that is enough" "You may be my Lucky Star, but I'm the luckiest by far" "Baby, all I've got is time And I'm waiting to make you mine"
  5. Isn't it obvious that there's no objective best and it's just personal taste? It was just a simple way of asking people what they felt the definitive version of the song was and which they felt is best. Madonna is allowed to have her own taste, I'm just saying that her taste often goes against the grain of the majority fan opinion. Have as much or as little faith in her as you want. Wasn't trying to be reductive, I was just born this way...
  6. I made a whole thread about where people think Vogue belongs and fits best the other day coincidentally. But, yes, I don't think the comparison is dissimilar except they at least tried to make Vogue mesh with NIFY2.
  7. La isla bonita (medellin is underrated though) More or Amazing
  8. Hung Up (this was tough though) Hey You or B'Day Song
  9. Yeah, just a few, it is definitely one of her weakest lyrically in my mind. 'Killers' is abysmal.
  10. I was wondering about people's personal favourite lyrics by M and what they consider her best written lyrics generally (bonus question: the era overall with her strongest lyrics?) I honestly think some of her earlier more simplstic ones are top tier pop lyrics that get underrated compared to her 90s stuff. "Shine your heavenly body tonight" is my first thought in this regard.
  11. It has a few lines throughout I like, but it's definitely lyrically one of her weakest albums Hard Candy is pretty dire in that respect though "I bent my knees for you like a prayer; my God, look at me now" "It's a hustle, it's a con... It's a weird kind of energy, a bizarre thing that happens to be" "They say that we need love But we need more than this" "People think that I'm insane The only gun is in my brain Each new birth, it gives me hope" "It's a beautiful dream, but a dream is earned I can dress like a boy, I can dress like a girl Keep your beautiful words, 'cause I'm not concerned" "Venus was hovering above us I took a trip, it set me free Forgave myself for being me" "It's a beautiful dream, but a dream is earned I can dress like a boy, I can dress like a girl Keep your beautiful words, 'cause I'm not concerned" "I took a pill and had a dream I went back to my 17th year Allowed myself to be naive To be someone I've never been I took a sip and had a dream And I woke up in Medellín The sun was caressing my skin Another me could now begin" "Sipping my pain just like champagne Found myself dancing in the rain with you I felt so naked and alive For once I didn't have to hide myself" Edited to add just a few favourite lyrics off the top of my head
  12. It means that Madonna's taste in her own music and what's dorky or cool nowadays is debatably tasteless. The fact she criticised Into the Grove but absolutely loves Candy Shop goes against general fan consensus of the two songs
  13. Version with an atrocious remaster. What makes it atrocious? I've not heard it on particularly good speakers
  14. So on streaming is the album version > FEL version in your opinion?
  15. Thanks for all the responses. The 7' isn't available on streaming is it?
  16. I agree with all of your points but it's ironic you think it's her coolest song (agree) while M herself called it 'dorky'
  17. LDLHA Another Suitcase in Another Hall or Mother and Father
  18. Madonna Ain't No Big Deal Crimes of Passion Sidewalk Talk solo!!!! Laugh to Keep from Crying Remembering Your Touch Like A Virgin Warning Signs Stay (Pre'Madonna' demo version) Desperately Seeking Susan True Blue Each Time You Break My Heart (this is a must for me) Tell Me Possesive Love Working My Fingers to the Bone Spotlight original Like a Prayer Just A Dream Angels With Dirty Faces First There's A Kiss Erotica Shame You Are the One Goodbye to Innocence Dear Father Erotica (Rain Tape version) Bedtime Stories Let Down Your Guard Freedom I'd Rather Be Your Lover (Tupac Remix) Your Honesty (even though it is available on streaming) Ray Of Light Revenge (this one is so good) Like an Angel Passing Through My Room (it's so beautiful and her vocals are outstanding) Like a Flower Gone Gone Gone Be Careful (Solo) (Special mention to Arioso) Music Liquid Love Cyberraga Time Stood Still (though it's available on streaming) La Petite Jeune Fille Alone Again American Life Is This Love Miss You Animal Cool Song Confessions Keep the Trance History Triggering Hard Candy Across the Sky (is that from HC era?) Latte Beat Goes On Demo Broken MDNA I don't know any from this era but some of the songs on there could shine more with different production I think Rebel Heart Rebel Heart (the Avicci version) (flawless song) Queen (would've been a top 3 song on the album) Nothing Lasts Forever Never Let You Go Two Steps Behind Me Madame X Have there been any leaked or reported about?
  19. I don't think fans always have that much faith in Madonna's taste in her own songs from what I've seen. For example, I know Express Yourself is a song where people generally prefer the Shep Pettibone 7' version
  20. Embracing grey hair, wrinkles, and not getting any plastic surgery is only one idea of how to fight ageism. She constantly wears things that aren't generally considered to be acceptable for older women and proves she is capable of as much as a younger artist is. She's fighting ageism in her own way and that includes deciding what she does with her own face.
