Actually not at all. I was the gay freshman trying to rap about soy lattes wearing a camo-jacket trying to recreate the dance she does in the video. I actually pulled my groin because of it but we won't go there. And we HAVE to compare it to other work because she IS madonna. It also totally changed her trajectory and while in the early y2ks I thought it was her best album, after the dust has settled it definitely has become the sore spot. I have to wonder had it not flopped, what kind of Madonna would we be looking at right now. It also really signified her submissiveness towards Guy and was such a retread of Music just not as great. Maybe if Mirwais hadnt given her first #1 single since Take a Bow and first #1 album since Like a Prayer, we wouldn't have gotten such a repeat.

Hardly smashes either other than the first two singles in the UK especially coming after a mega era so let's not pretend it was a huge lasting hit. It also was probably her first album that had singles totally forgotten other than AL but that's due to it being the first single with controversy. No offense to those countries but she's not gonna be bragging that those smaller markets did better. She was at least smart enough to do RIT. Who knows how the tour wouldve done if it was the American Life tour.

You can disagree all you want but doesnt make it true. Also doesn't have to be abstract for people to not like it. It also didnt help that it was such a retread of Music but if Music was a bummer album. Also what other top 10 besides Hollywood? As far as I remember Love Profusion flopped in the UK and Nothing Fails wasnt some hit song in the territories it was released in.

The video was the last of her problems. People hated the song and the album. Americans were not all on board with the Iraq war and alot of people were anti bush. People were not all of a sudden against Madonna because she spoke out against the war. Put on any track from the album at a party and it'll kill the vibe. I remember being in highschool and everyone thinking it was annoying and awful, they couldn't care less about politics at that age and it's not like a majority of Republicans were her fans to begin with. The album was gonna flop regardless of what single was chosen and them moving so slow was like watching a car wreck in slow motion.

Everything got really messy after Hollywood. IMO they waited waaaaay too long between AL and Hollywood. Once they saw AL was flopping they should've rushed it so we could've at least had Hollywood as a single in May. Allegedly she was originally going to perform NKM at the VMAs but switched it to Hollywood which was already dead at that point. Then a huge gap between Hollywood and NF. Then huge gap again until April for LP yet somehow R&R was released around NF. I also remember the rumor of the final single being Mother & Father then the remixes started playing on radio then nothing happened. Once RIT was announced there was then a rumor Easy Ride was going to be the final single then nothing. I think by the time summer 2003 people in america didnt even remember there was a Madonna album out. She totally focused on the children's book and people were so cynical and started labeling her as an old lady and saying they wished the old Madonna was back that she was so quiet and uptight.

Really? I feel her last physical release for a tour was like 10 or 12 years ago. And i was always a fan of M but it was just the perfect storm of buying that and then Music being released a month or two after during the summer and being able to watch VH1 all the specials they had

Well Swift and Bey all they really do are variations, they havent released anything concert-wise in years. Side note...when i was like 11 or 12 I had gone out of town with my family and went to a record store and found this weird cassette of The Immaculate Collection that was literally half cassette/half floppy disc and bought it for 3 bucks. Turns out it was a rare format called Digital Compact Disc or DCC for short. Shortly after i went from fan to megastan and would not stop annoying everyone in catholic school!

Idk...I'm not an audio buff so idk what that is. I know ROL & Music were released on Mini-disc! Haha

You should listen to the 5.1 albums from 20 years ago...they were GOOD. I could only imagine how Ray of Light or Confessions would've sounded like

Correct. I want to say it was either pre- or post-confessions but sometime around 04/05/ or 06 that Stuart was allegedly handling 5.1 versions of her albums. At that point in time artists were releasing albums in that format including Britney's In the Zone, Ninch Inch Nails With Teeth and Goldfrapp's Supernature but that format never really caught on and we never heard anything again

That's my question...what would constitute as a single? Technically if it got enough streams it could chart on the hot 100 and what would motown be able to do? So would Motown even be able to do anything if she released remixes? Technically the Orchestral version is a remix and that hasn't been an issue. Supposedly there wasn't even a promo and those remixes were white labeled and labeled wrong which is why for years people thought it was remixed by Vasquez

I wonder if we could possibly get I Want You or if there would still be an issue

I think had WTG been on it, perception of the song would be way different. TIC became the go-to madonna album out of convenience. Growing up in the 90s it was always the q-sound versions I would hear on the radio. Now i actually hear the originals but for the longest time TIC was the source for all the madonna hits.

I dont have too many japanese madonna items but my anime things do haha i also have the Japanese Mars Attacks Laserdisc...i love the alternate artwork and the obi is this pretty magenta/red color so it just looks very nice. Also have the seminal anime film Akira and ahhh definitely a pearl in my collection
