Rather Be Your Lover
Positive: The 90s! I just want to put on my parachute pants and this tape in my Walkman and go to the mall.
Negative: As much as I love Me'shell Ndegeocello she should've released the 2Pac version. Would have been legendary.

"Take a pole? Yeah and ram it up your ass."
I'm just kidding. That poll zing has followed me for years and basically poisoned the word with Madonna-ism.

Its totally a great track. Totally. She is having a ball and it shows... but if an anthem like Turn Up The Radio didn't hit this isn't even going to impact. I'm all for her being #1 but it just doesn't seen reasonable especially with a novelty cut like this. Honestly since the bubblegum 80s I don't think Madonna has released such a pandering desperate sounding tune. I love it and it is great fun.
What is the goal of a single anyway? To sell records or to get a kid thats 15 to say "bitch i'm madonna"? Honestly the "goal" has been elusive for the whole RH era.
If she wants to sell records to grown folks JOA is the safest choice, bring back the cowboy hat, jeans, and the fake guitar playing for another Love Profusion/Don't Tell Me style video showcasing how "normal" she can act.
If she wants to impact pre-pubescents then more surgery, bigger wigs, grills, and more cartoonish behavior I 'spose.

Some Girls
Positive: Here's our girl back with an attitude kicking 50's ass and writing receipts.
Negative: A rock n roll remix was never released.

Living For Love demo has a literal re-creation of the Vogue piano run but all on the same note.

Mother And Father
Positive: Disco guitars and lyrics about being let down by your parents.
Negative: "I cried and cried and cried all day until the neighbors went away"

ADDICTED (The One That Got Away)Positive: God she sounds good with the guitar at the breakdown. The flirty under your spell tone of her voice is nice and innovative, not sure she does this tone on any other tune. Like she's stalking her prey.
Negative: It just doesn't work with the album. And a bit weird that theres an Addicted and an I'm Addicted. The One That Got Away would have been literally F-I-N-E without the seconds of "I'm Addicted" repeated at the end of the chorus

This Used To Be My Playground
POSITIVE: Introduced "no regrets". Made my grandmother actually like a Madonna song. Theme to fantastic "A League of Their Own" one of her best cinematic offerings.
NEGATIVE: The movie version with additional recorded material was never officially released in the US despite the film and song being so popular.

True Blue
Positive: It was a teeny bopper anthem, a nice little ditty with a cute video about unabashed devotion. Not too deep.
Negative: It was a teeny bopper anthem, a nice little ditty with a cute video about unabashed devotion. Not too deep. And the hair...

Her b-sides are usually amazing!! "Supernatural" "Cyberraga" "Has To Be" "Let Down Your Guard"... some of my favorite tracks are b-sides. Its a fun way to feature a sound somewhat different or close to the album.

In "Take A Day" she does some "when the groove begins to play you know what i wanna..." that sounds reminiscent of "when the room begins to sway you know what i'm trying to say". The bassline on Devil Pray is very Erotica. The synth horns when Nas hits on Veni Vidi are either Holiday or Material Girl.

I am hoping for a rousing version of Ghosttown with The Roots then maybe "Express Yourself" or "Cherish", something light and classic with Jimmy and The Roots on kids instruments. "Living For Love" might be cool on the kids instruments.
