I think the big difference between LAP and RUTH is that LAP was a huge mainstream pop hit in 1989, had its 15 minutes of controversy etc. RUTH in 1985 was a modest hit in the US, barely cracking the top 40 and Kate bush remained unknown to the general US audience so it felt like a true discovery to many in 2022. I was in high school during Kate bush’s “the hounds of love” album and it was part of my high school posse’s musical lexicon but I’d bet most of my fellow classmates heard the song for the first time while watching “Stranger Things” with their own teenagers. btw what a clever way for Madonna to pull in a wider audience for her biopic than being “the lady with the Deadpool song”

I think “like a prayer” just has that special sauce that appeals to everyone, including straight dudes. I took my very straight nephew 25 to the Celebration tour simply bc he was in town, I had tickets and it would be a fun family experience. He doesn’t know any of her music but the next morning his mom, my sister, told me was streaming “like a prayer” in the hotel room.

Random: This might be old news but wrestler turned actor Dave Bautista mentioned on WWHL a few nights ago that Madonna was his first crush and still crushes on her. It looks like she's mixing a bit of the old with the new since her cheeks would look gaunt when she was training hard back in the 00s with Tracy Anderson and the paparazzi would get unflattering shots on the sidewalk after she'd been working out for hours. She might be letting some filler dissolve. In any case, she looks good IMO.

I didn't realize someone posted this a few days ago but THIS is hilarious! It’s less than a second in the trailer but it’s giving Blond Ambition / Celebration tour gimp mask meets Deadpool.

Last night on YouTube I wasn’t even looking for it but the algorithm found me. This “final trailer” released 3 days ago has really worked LAP into it with new orchestral backing and isolated choir vocals. With this much effort put into it, I think it would just be weird if LAP is not in the film.

She jokingly mentioned in IGTTYAS during the preshow prayer in Vegas something about ignoring guys in the audience eating hot dogs while she’s performing. Essentially, hating on high rollers in comped seats and unengaged casual fans who are mainly there because it’s too easy to walk into a show on the strip. Between her open ended start times and the buffet style audiences strip residencies attract, she’s not doing it in the near future. She’ll find another way to make another billion dollars on her own terms. It works for some artists to do a residency but not her, not now. When she’s 75, we’ll see…
