Single Reissues Campaign - This Used to Be My Playground - OUT NOW
topic replied to Aiwa08's New_Boy in News ✖ Discussion
It's a remix, so the speed can be really different. Open Your Heart (Remix & Extended) at the correct speed is almost 1.5% slower than the album version. I can't hear differences in the speed between TB [Remix/Edit] available on CD since 1987 and the 35th anniversary version. In fact, the sound quality is better than my CD version (my version has too much treble and low bass). -

Yes, apparently. -
I don't know why TIDAL labels the tracks as "Masters" when the files are 44100 Hz/16 bit (CD quality). For me, a master is 96000 Hz or 192000 Hz and 24 bits. Maybe they want to say that the FLAC files are created directly from the masters. For example, on TIDAL the "Master" of Madamex X is 44100 Hz / 32 bits (Float). But in this forum uploaded a real "Master" version at 88200 Hz / 24 bits (I don't know the source of this version, maybe from HDtracks.com). About your question, I only know that HDtracks.com sells legally the 192000 Hz / 24 bits masters of "Madonna", "Like A Virgin", "True Blue" and "Who's That Girl" since 2012. I don't know any story of a fan ripping the master tapes. As far as I know, Warner wanted to release a "Super Audio CD" or "Blu-Ray High Fidelity Pure Audio" version but at the end they didn't do that (maybe because both formats born dead) and that is the reason why those masters are available to buy in HD. Anyway I don't know it this is real or not.

Ok. I don't know other sites, but on TIDAL the problems with "Where's The Party" and "Love makes the world go round" at the beginning , are present in the 2001 remaster version too (sadly I've never checked these songs on TIDAL before today because I have the original remastered CD).
-
yes, Open Your Heart (Extended & Dub) sounds a little strange (in my opinion)... The album version sounds flawless.
-
Well, the "master" quality is far away to be a real master (at least talking about the Madonna's catalog). But they have the same quality as others FLAC sources or commercial CDs. For me, Tidal is the best site for music right now (because I can download the songs without losing quality).
-
Ok, I've got my "master" version from TIDAL. And "Where's The Party" and "Love Makes The World Go Round" are fucked at the beginning... And the songs are compressed (Loudness War). But I like the sound quality in general at this moment (I need to play the full album).

We calling it "Remix Edit" because is a "Remix - Edit of Extended Version". There is not other reason. But again, you are right. "Remix Edit" is not the official name. -

You are right. The only official names are "Open Your Heart (Edit of Extended Version)" on US promo 7'', "Open Your Heart (Remix)" on UK commercial 7'' and "It's That Girl Cassette", and just "Open Your Heart" (without the Remix) in European 7'' vinyls. -

For many of us, it's the version that we knew and loved in 1986. It's was the version available on the 7'' vinyl in Europe. And it's an edit of the extended version but using the structure of the album version (like the singles of "True Blue", "La Isla Bonita", "Like A Prayer", "Express Yourself", "Cherish" and the promotional 7'' version of "Keep It Together"). Even in the US promo is written "Edit of Extended Version": https://www.discogs.com/Madonna-Open-Your-Heart/release/12758286 -
Don't worry. I'm sure that these tracks are new digital transfers.
-
No. They were available on CD before (but "Open Your Heart (Dub)" had a problem with the sound quality).

I was talking in general (not only Madonna's fans) as I've said two post later. You are not the only one who repeat the "unhappy" mantra. But if you want to take my comments like an attack to you, no problem. I'm not going to waste my time arguing with you when I was speaking in general. -

I mean it's a problem in general, not only with Madonna's videos and songs. I spent years wanting to buy FLAC or WAV files, but people are happy with 192 mp3s. The same with films and tv series. People in general are happy with DVD and doesn't care about Blu-rays or UHD. That is the reason why I've told you is a losing battle, because people doesn't care about the quality in audio/video files. And if you complain about the quality, then you are "a sad person who cannot enjoy anything". -

You will always lose in this fight because some fans doesn't care about her legacy preserved in the best quality. If you complain about this problem, then your are not "happy" never... -

No "Open Your Heart (Remix Edit)"... I can't believe it.... -
I've always thought that the combo "Holiday"-"Like A Virgin" was the fuel to start her meteoric career.
-
Warner only need to release 2 cd (a remaster without the loudness war, with the 7'' & 12'' versions) plus a DVD with four videos. That is not expensive at all. What's the problem? Sometimes I can't understand this woman.

No, no. "Spanish Eyes" was released as promotional single in 1990 almost at the same time of "Keep It Together". "Express Yourself" was a huge hit in Spain in the summer of 1989 so Wea Spain didn't need another single. Even Cherish sold well in Spain. I think that it was the "flop" of "Dear Jessie" the reason why Wea released "Spanish Eyes" weeks later (many radio stations played the song from the album before to be an official spanish single). --- PS: A little story with "Like a Prayer" album: In my town, in 1989, for many people a "CD" was something strange, rare. So a record store gave some CDs to the local radio stations to promote the new format. "Like A Prayer" was one of this "promotional" CDs. So usually the radio stations of my town played different songs from those CDs consecutively (three or four different tracks after the lunch time) while they promoted the quality of the CDs discs available to buy on that record store. I hated that because they played the album versions instead the single versions (and after "The Immaculate Collection" they never aired the original 7'' vinyls again).
-
In my experience, even in the 70s, many singles were album edits (and many times the album versions were extended singles). I think that it was a mutual pact between labels and radio stations. If the songs were shorter, more different songs were aired in a limited period of time (and more songs were promoted for the labels). 7'' vinyls doesn't have problems with longer songs, but to keep the proper sound quality they need to reduce the volume, and that was bad for the radio stations (nowadays that it's not a problem because they normalize the volume with any digital filter). Anyway, I remember (I can be wrong) in the 70s, and even the 80s, labels selling more singles than full albums. This changed in the 80s, and the 7'' started to decline in sales. People wanted to buy full albums. It was a nightmare for me to find 7'' in my town after 1988, only 12'' (my town is really small).

Burning Up (but the Single Version)
-
Oh, those days playing the radio stations Burning Up and Holiday... I loved burning up and I recorded the song from the radio, but they didn't say who was the singer or the title. Years playing that cassette until I bought "The first album" in 1987 and I discovered that "Burning Up" was a Madonna' song. I was so happy... Sadly It wasn't the same version played by the radio stations... Oh, I really miss those days loving Madonna without to be a fan... (Express Yourself changed that...)
