I might be, but that should not affect my capability to judge music
Some kind of songs can be appreciated much more after a hit from the bong
I mean, you can even make smoke rings and let all yourself be carried away by the music
I can tell you, LAP is not even top10 best albums. Btw, the n.1 is Ray of Light, OBVIOUSLY.

    In chronological order:
Angel - It peaked at #5 both in the US and UK but it gets overshadowed by the more iconic '80s singles. It's time that she gives a rest to Material Girl or LIB and brings back to life this great bop! Til Death Do us Part - It is one of her best album tracks ever and it would be a nice way to commemorate the LAP era. Again, she can give a rest to Express Yourself and let this bop shine !  Rain - Beautiful song that needs to be remembered.  Why It so Hard - As the op says because it is the song that the world needs to hear RN.  Secret - A big hit that she hasn't been performed in a while and it can pay justice to the Bedtime Stories era.  Nothing Really Matters - Another big hit that would be nice to see performed again.  Sky Fits Heaven - One of the best album tracks ever that was performed only during the DWT. It would be nice to see how she reinvents this song on stage. After all, she did a great job reinventing Candy Shop. Skin - Amazing song that deserves to be performed live at least once.   To Have and Not to Hold - A beautiful song that would add a magical vibe. Die Another Day -  It is one of her greatest bops ever and I'd love to see  her dancing to this song again. Sorry - Another colossal bop and a worldwide smash hit. It is also my fav song from COADF and I believe it's time that it makes its return. How High - a rare gem that gets stacked in the head after the first listening and can easily let the crowd dance as if there is no tomorrow.  Miles Away - This beautiful song can do justice for the HC era and showcase her always-improving guitar skills. Beautiful Killer - It's a great bop that worked extremely well with the crowd at the Olympia theater. It is perfect to make the crowd jump! Best Night - One of the best RH songs and it deserves justice for being ignored last time. Moreover, it would work well next to Skin because both song require the presence of sitar, which would be really dope to have on stage.

I can understand the superiority of Oh Father and Keep It Together over Beat Goes On and Dance2night, but it is beyond my capacity to make sense of the rest of your choices
I mean, She's Not Me is perfection both lyrically and sonically and deserved a music video and single treatment. On the other hand, Cherish is quite boring lyrically and the only great thing about it is the music video, but lbr it did not deserve to be a single.
Meanwhile, both Promise To Try and Miles Away are ballads with deep introspective lyrics. However, Promise To Try is the usual slow ballad that you are probably going to forget after the first listen and it's the kind of song that could had fit better a stronger vocalist like Whitney Houston (same for Oh father btw).
On the other hand, damn it! Miles Away is that kind of rare ballad that rocks hard! It is generally downtempo with a sad/reflective mood but at the same time it's great to dance to it and sing it out loud. That is because the electronic beats are dope and the acoustic guitar is so pleasant to hear. On top of that the bridges are so powerful and the chorus is extremely catchy: an epic ballad that is impossible to forget.
Finally, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You destroys Act of Contrition lyrically and its vibe it's way more suggestive and mysterious. Moreover, sonically speaking it's more experimenting as it starts softly with a beautiful piano and then becomes fast and catchy.

The musical style of HC is very innovative as Madonna experiments different kinds of sound. The album blends with great mastery a wide variety of music styles and tastes, such as R&B, dance-pop, disco, hip-pop and trip-hop. Despite all its producers the album is very cohesive and Pharrell serves some of his best productions ever, like Give It To Me: a song/candy with a juicy disco center surrounded by a crunchy hip-pop shell.
Overall each candy tastes differently (“Say which flavor you like and I’ll have it for you”) but they all wisely exposed next to each other and the album progression towards the end is great. Songs like Give It To Me, Beat Goes On, She's Not Me, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You or Miles Away are as experimenting and pioneering as any other Madonna classic.

Lucifer's Angel got a reaction from fernando2 in Hard Candy vs. Like a Prayer
Both albums are very cohesive and got great lyrics but overall HC is more enjoyable to listen to, thanks to his catchy hooks and great beats.
LAP opens with the title track, which is just that legendary and timeless and it closes with Act of Contrition, which recalls the title track and all the power of that song. Lap song simply outshines the entire album, with no offence to Express Yourself and Till Death Do Us Part that are still timeless bops. Other songs like Cherish, Dear Jessie and Keep It Together feel very boring in comparison and their beat sounds dated.
Love Song feels more like a wasted opportunity than an underrated gem. At least my expectations from two music legends are much higher!
The real strength of LAP relies on the beautiful sad lyrics of Promise to try, Spanish Eyes and Oh Father. Great ballads in which she served vocally, although her strongest vocal performance is definitely during the Evita-Rol peak.
On the other hand, the lyrics on HC are not that sad, which can be a good thing if you don't wanna be in a sad mood. Songs like Miles Away, She's Not Me, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You and Voices all got very interesting lyrics that show a charismatic attitude and sense of humor.
The beat of 4 minutes might sound dated cuz Timbaland already show off with Nelly Furtado, but that song still grabs its own spotlight in the album and gives a different flavor from the Pharell production.  Give It To Me it's arguably the best dance track on the album and perfect to lose control on the dancefloor.
Overall HC feels like a candy store, with many different candies but all of them very tasty and great for different occasions; while LAP got mainly a sad mood and more songs to skip.
    Let's compare the albums:
    1. Like a Prayer VS  Candy Shop 2. Express Yourself VS  4 Minutes 3. Love Song VS  Give It 2 Me 4. Till Death Do Us Part VS  Heartbeat 5. Promise to Try VS  Miles Away 6. Cherish VS  She's Not Me 7. Dear Jessie VS  Incredible 8. Oh Father VS  Beat Goes On 9. Keep It Together VS  Dance 2night 10. Spanish Eyes VS  Spanish Lesson 11. Act of Contrition VS  Devil Wouldn't Recognize You 12 Supernatural VS Voices   Lap: 5/12  vs HC: 7/12   winner: HC

Oh please, LAV is the album that made Madonna the Queen of Pop forever. After that she drastically reinvented both musically and visually with True Blue and by the end of the '80s her legacy and impact was already legendary.
Both LAV and True Blue outsold LAP btw

Actually I enjoy the discussion if there is respect for different opinions   There is no point to discuss with you if you are so sure that LAP is the best album and whoever disagree with you must be trolling.
Obviously, it is mainly a matter of music taste since music like art is kinda subjective. Nevertheless, if LAP got such great critical acclaim then why it did not win any Grammys? Personally, I tend to ignore the critical acclaim and make my own mind about the quality of an album.
No to mention that the people who were thinking of Madonna as just a dull dance diva were totally biased. Dance music can have substance too. Take for instance Papa Don't Preach or Miles Away: great songs to dance to but at the same time very serious lyrics and strong message. Madonna proved to have artistic consistency and substance already with the LAV and TB albums.
The cover alone of the LAV album is one of the most iconic in history. The title itself  "Like A Virgin" next to "Madonna" is a punch in the eyes for all the closed mind Christian people. It sums up Madonna in a nutshell: the religion controversy and her fearless and seductive sex appeal. Finally, that hairstyle and "Boy Toy" look impacted the lifestyle of millions of people across the Earth who tried to emulate Madonna in the '80s (the well-known Madonna wannabe phenomenon) . You may like the LAP cover, but it did not impacted the Earth as much as the LAV album. After all, it's just some jeans and everyone wear jeans...it looks like Madonna was afraid to show her brunette hairs.
I think you are reaching. You can obviously recognize the touch of Timberlake and Timbaland's dark beats and on both Cry Me a River and Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You, but the latter is a ballad with a totally different chorus and melody.
Meanwhile, Miles Away and Midnight Fantasy only got a remotely similar chorus, but again it's a reach to claim plagiarism cuz the production and overall melody is totally different.

I disagree. Madonna never did an album like HC and it was a breath of fresh air after the COADF album, in which she came back to her disco roots. HC is innovative and experimental and proves Madonna ability to choose current producers at the top of their game and and still be able to push them further to achieve something totally unique and pioneering like the HC album.
Let's face it: the only real skip on HC is the Incredible song. Seriously, even Spanish Lesson is lowkey a bop and a great way to learn some Spanish. There is plenty of substance on the rest of the album:  4 minutes still got a great message to save the world and Miles Away's lyrics are extremely mature and it kinda forecast the imminent divorce with Guy Ritchie. It may not be a subject as deep as the lost of her mother, but it still deal with very important and personal stuff.  Not to mention that HC songs are joyful and make you dance! Even the ballads got awesome bridges and melodies.
The hard true is that Like a Prayer tries to be joyful but it miserably fail: Cherish, Dear Jessie and Keep It Together are meant to be happy cheerful songs but they are just plenty boring and got pathetic lyrics. Those songs aged quite bad  and  are definitely a skip in the album.  Love Song is bland and disappointing cuz Madonna and Prince did not put enough effort on it; and, finally Act of Contrition tastes like the title track leftover. This means that half of Like a Prayer album is not that great at all.

Madonna doesn't need help to make great songs and sometimes can be risky to work with other artists...which collaboration turn out to be the best one?
The worst got to be the B-Day Song imo... it's kinda annoying but I got to confess that I was singing along it during my bday
Anw, Madonna drastically increased the number of featured songs in her latest albums...
I'm not a fan of Me Against The Music and even 4 Minutes is not my cup of tea...but she created music masterpieces with rappers.
Personally, I think Nas served the best bars on the RH album and he truly elevated the song Veni Vedi Vici on it.
Neverthless, my fave collaboration of all time got to be Bitch I'm Madonna. That song is just so fun and so Madonna and issa a colossal bop
