Anyway, there are people who believe she says Lie and Leave and people who believe she says Life and Live, and at the moment we have no way to affirm who is wrong and who is right, maybe one day someone will ask the question directly to Madonna and the case will be solve, until then no one is wrong or right. Calling someone stupid or moron in this case is really not appropriate.

Well several native english speakers on Pop Justice and here also say she says Lie so...

The fact that the song is called "American life" is not a proof she sings Life and not Lie ! just the opposite for me, it's way more interesting to call the track American Life and sing about the american Lie. Now about the lyrics printed in the booklet that wouldn't be the first time there are mistakes, especially that subtle play on words on lie and leave. Now about the backing vocals i do not agree she sings Life. The Lie is even more obvious in the backing vocals. Even her lips clearly says LIE in the flag video. That Lie and Leave 100% for me.

We do not get the same message at all then, cause to me she's not LIVING the american LIFE, she's LEAVING the american LIE. The second meaning is much more Madonna to me, the first one is way too obvious. Madonna loves double meaning and play on words and she's a genius in using it.

Parisian months not so Parisian by the way... more like north of France/border with Belgium... I still have to cover that era when i have more time. I am in touch with people who were with her at that time ( i live in the same place as the team of Patick Hernandez). I am even i touch with one person who was with her all the time during the Hernandez era (the person was at the NY audition, on the pics with her during the dinner in NY, in Tunisia etc...)

Just out curiosity, those who says it's stupid to believe she sings American lie in the chorus, can you elaborate how it's supid ? I ask seriously cause in my opinion singing American lie makes even more sense with the message of the song and it's a brilliant subtility that a few artists would do. It makes so much sense that i have a hard time understanding how people couldn't even consider for a second her line says American lie instead of American life and reject that idea without even a though. Now if someone who refuses to believe the lyric says Lie would make an elaborated answer as for why it is impossible that would be welcome 😁

You can laugh all you want but she clearly sings American Lie, and that makes perfect sense with the message of the song. Look at flag video and you'll see this is not a mastering error, her lips clearly sing LIE and not LIFE. I don't get why some of you cannot believe it as it's and brilliant move and only someone as genius as M could do this.

Thanks ! Even in the video she clearly sings LIE. You can cleary hear it and see it on her mouth. It makes the song even more interesting, it's genius.

This is 100% her. Heard it at first listen. She sings in a low register with effects on her voice. She may not be the best singer of the world but she has that ability to change her way of singing in a blink of an eye.

Cool down guys the track is really dated and cheesy as hell, even if released it would be forgotten in a blink of an eye and i can tell you it would do nothing for her or her career. That was a fun peanut for the pride gig and that's really nothing more. I believe M is bright enough to know it. Even the recent Frozen remixes were way more current and somehow edgy than that Saucy Material girl track...

For the moment the track doesn't do much for me. It sounds a bit Hanna Montana 2010 imo but maybe with a great video it will grow on me who knows...

No kidding your description is the video for "Mother and Father", it's already a classic video in my mind ! Now i'm not only sorry she didn't release the song, o'm also sorry your video does not exist...

"Mother and Father" was the electro pop gem that was THE single. The production was fierce for the time.

I like "Heh you" and never understood the hate it git and still gets to this day. "Hey you" was the first track M recorded after the Confessions era and her first time working with Pharell. Even though Pharell is an urban producer she didn't jump on the bandwagon and made him produce something totally different than his usual rnb productions. The reception of the track has been horrible by the fans and she then decided to go for Pharell's traditionnal rnb productions and that's how we got Candy shop and all his tracks Hard Candy. I do believe that if the reception of "Hey you" was good she would have gone for a less urban album and a more "preachy/etheral" sound. "Hey you" was a test in my opinion.
