The film is amazing! I wish she was more natural like that in the photos. Maybe if we all posted more comments on these things about how beautiful she looks she’ll start using more natural retouching

We’ll yeah but she doesn’t need to do that since she has a ton of remixes and unreleased stuff in the vault that can be used instead. And she can easily write some stuff for some of them or her collaborators could contribute as well

She should commission that remix to be done in full and have it released. And then tie that in with a Ray Of Light anniversary boxset released on Black Friday

I think the whole reason why this Warner Deal has been done. So we can get anniversary releases like that. And yes she can do all that for every album. It’s not like she’s the one doing any of the work

Ha. I’ve been a fan since 1992 and it’s always been like this. At the time many fans were saying the SEX photos are terrible and subpar quality. And they were calling her too old and saying she looks like shit. Just because after Playground they were expecting her to go in that direction. 30 years later she gets the same shit from her fans. And then during the American Life era there was full on war within her fan base. So many people hated it with a passion. And there was a lot of complaining over the retouching in her photos. But I think that’s ok. I think part of the reason I love her is because she doesn’t do what we expect of her but pushes us to embrace new concepts and ideas

Being an interior designer or a Madonna fan doesn’t qualify you to give a very reductive verdict on the work of accomplished veteran artists. You are entitled to not like the project and to express that. But just because you don’t understand something it doesn’t make it bad. The fact that the Bert Stern’s estate gave a nod to the photoshoot on their Instagram says it all

Just like most of SKs projects theres multiple angles to it. There’s the behind the scenes in black and white, the finished product images and the overdone face tuned images. I think they’re trying to present Marilyns insecurities and vanity through a contemporary form of expression. And I also see it as an admission on Madonnas part that she’s also a victim of those insecurities. How do we know she asked to not be filmed up close for the VMAs?

Well obviously you didn’t read the paragraph explaining the shoot. The whole concept of the shoot is the relationship between the subject and the photographer. Its a conceptual shoot for a highly stylized publication. And the fact that so many fans are turned off by it it’s proof that it’s successful in its intent. Generally the photos people say “anyone could have taken” are the hardest to achieve and require real skill. I do wish there was less retouching though.

But that’s the whole point. There’s a set of traditional photos and another digitally manipulated with lo-fi technology. I think it’s brilliant as a concept. Especially the glitchy cover

Yes but also the industry standards and retouching have evolved. They should have left some definition in her face. It doesn’t have to look like a perfect smooth globe. And god forbid they left a couple lines here and there for realism

Lol they didn’t make Glory a hit album in spite of being pretty good… Meanwhile Madonna fans made Bedtime Stories a hit album on streaming in 2020

Lol I’m not looking down on anyone. Everyone’s entitled to spend their time online however they want. You’re the one who demands we should all provide free labor for Madonna just because we’re fans. Nevermind most of us are spending a small fortune on her releases and tours I’m spending time here because I enjoy most of what Madonna does (past and present) and I like to read what many of the members have to say. Unlike some of you, I’m able to respect peoples opinions even when they’re not worshiping Madonna.

Are you serious with this? We are not her PR company. People get paid to do that. If she fucks up we’re not responsible to clean it up. That’s her job and the people she pays to do that for her. And even more so, many times she know what her fans want and she does the opposite. Which is her right to do but can’t be expected for her fan base to like it. We’re a very diverse fan base and we don’t follow her blindly like a creepy cult like some other artists’ fan bases. And that’s perfectly ok.

I’m just saying that when something tragic like that happens all fans are on the same page. Since it’s not a matter of personal taste. Madonna is doing great and is in control of her life. People are allowed to express whatever they feel regarding her work and public persona. That’s why that stuff is created and exists

And another thing. Britney has been going though a unique and very traumatic situation that would unite a fan base. Madonna isn’t.

Ummm I don’t know what you’re talking about. Britney, as much as I love her, is pretty boring and mainstream as an artist. Madonna has always been extremely polarizing and caused extreme reactions of adoration and hatred. That’s what she wanted for herself and I’m sure she wouldn’t want it any other way. This duality has been a constant throughout her career and always existed in her fan base. I think you’re just more aware now because it’s easier for people dialogue and put their opinions out there. I remember in 1993 I joined a local fan club and everyone loved her but the opinions were extremely different over the Erotica era.
