  1. I have an interesting story - I have a younger straight male friend, he's a regular 25 y.o. red-blooded american man who knows nothing about Madonna's music and is obsessed with body building, etc.  Get the picture?

He's been intrigued by my Madonna obsession and I long story short, I asked him to add to his spotify, and play the "Ray of Light" album in full.  He did.  He's been obsessed with it.  He says he likes the overall feeling and how complex it is.  He reported back to me a few weeks ago that he was driving with his other straight male workout friend and had the album playing in his car.  This is what the conversation went like:

"this is cool bro - what is it?"

    My friend: "Madonna"

his friend: "Madonna?" Whoa! - this is pretty damn good.

So he asked for a follow-up and after some back and forth I suggested: American Life (it's also complex)

He said it was OK and actually said he didnt like it after awhile.

I then suggested the MIXED Confessions on a Dance Floor:

He "likes" it.  Sounds too poppy and generic to him and her voice is ok - doesnt give him the same feeling as the Ray of Light album did.

Anyway - thought id share some feedback from a non fan and someone who knows nothing about her and is not her typical audience.

    - Anyway, I picked Drowned World - To this day, I will never forget getting home from the midnight release and putting the album in my player and hearing Drowned World come on.  Gave me chills.  That evita trained voice on that haunting track.  Nothing like it.  Her voice was magical from Something to Remembers new tracks through American Pie/Time Stood Still - that beautifully trained voice was ultimately gone by the time the Music album came out.

  2. I would only buy a physical re-release if:

    1. There were less than 10,000 printed worldwide and though not required, I would prefer it also be numbered directly on the packaging.

    2. It was explicitly stated that it was "limited edition"

The following are not required but would also help get me to buy it:

    1. Something unique about this edition (colored vinyl, new liner notes, etc)

Since I've heard all the songs on re-issues and have purchased several editions and copies through the years, I would most likely just stream the release and not even buy it if it were a digital only release.

  3. Papa dont preach - shocking that it made top 10.

Justify makes sense because it was a Madonna experience moment.  It was the first time I had ever seen a full video, albeit censored, played on the regular broadcast tv news and tons of talk shows etc.  It was discussed for weeks everywhere you turned.

Drowned World IS MY #1 fave song from our gal.  Sad to see it go.

    :-(

  4. I had read somewhere that Spanish Eyes is about the Aids epidemic taking away so many lives.

Another HeartBreakRound... I knew it from the start... baby please don't hurt me

So many beautiful ballads are going. But I knew.

This time I was scared to read....

    :rip: :rip:

You'll see: the best empowerment song ever, it is paired now by Living for love.

Promise to try: I think there are many beautiful songs about death of a dear one, but they always say the same things. Take one of the greatest ever, Eric Clapton's Tears in heaven for instance. Madonna's song is so original, so deep, it says so many difficult things about forgetting and remembering. It is so sincere. In a certain way I am only a little unconfortable thinking of the use made in Truth or dare movie: I fear Christopher may be right... Can you show such a intimate moment as the visit to your mother's grave in front of the cameras? Still is one of the most touching scenes in the movie.

You must love me: so simple yet so perfect. The guitar rendition in S&S is simply awesome (even if sometimes it was slightly out of tune :wide-eyes: ). I've covered it many times and I can really feel it.

Spanish eyes: a beautiful songs about war and desaparecidos. One of M's most mature tracks.

Bad Girl: a nice ballad, fits perfectly in Erotica and gives a different side to the album. It would be nice to see it reworked acoustic and not electronic.

I'm in love with... Nothing Fails: one of the most underrated singles, not to make a proper video was a crime. But Madonna made a lot of mistakes in American Life promotion, and after the video withdrawn she seemed to have lost faith in the video format.... Also Hollywood and Love profusion are not that interesting. The original AL is pure perfection

Let It Will Be: I'm still confused with the title...

Deeper and Deeper: maybe Shep Pettibone was right and the Spanish break makes no sense, but it sounds so nice! And the Vogue citation is easy and cheesy but we all love it! And M knows it, so she reused the idea in Holy Water.... ooops!

    :Madonna053:

I would have liked to hear Nothing really matters in the new tour, there were so many indiscretions about it being rehearsed... remember some posts a little too offensive? :mama010:

Yet the idea of the song is better explained in Drowned World and Rebel Heart, imo...

  5. Lotsa great remixes from the Queen but not many that I can listen once too much time has passed as they sound so dated....which they should as they are mixed for the clubs and whats cool for that time.  Here are a few that stand-out for me that I can listen to very regularly to this day:

Bedtime Story (Orbital) - the one that Stuart Price re-worked for Reinvention Tour

Love Dont Live Here Anymore - the Full On Mark Pichiotti Remix with the added background vocalists....amazing

    Music (Calderone Mix)

American Pie (Jb Mix) - this was a rejected mix - whoever rejected it has hopefully retired and makes no madonna decisions anymore.

    American Life (Felix)

Give It To Me (Tong and Spoon)

    Celebration (Benassi)

    Girl Gone Wild (Justin Cognito)

Living for Love (living for drums mix - the one used for live performances - why wasnt this released?)

  6. Get Together CT

    Nobody Knows Me RIT

    Fever TGS

    Impressive Instant DWT

    Lucky Star WTGT

    Beat Goes On S&ST

    Open Your Heart BAT

    Holiday VT

Revolver MDNAT - THE WORST 2nd track ever!  To go from that awesome hi nrg intro to this dud. ugh.
