I consider Live To Tell the lead single. You can read "FROM THE FORTHCOMING MADONNA ALBUM ON SIRE RECORDS AND FROM THE ORION MOTION PICTURE AT CLOSE RANGE" in the single. 
With Music and American Life it was different, they never announced American Pie or Die Another Day as singles from the forthcoming album.
