Elazul got a reaction from Stevo in "Immaculate Collection": Which track would you have replaced?
Shep might have created the remix but it's Madonna's fault for ignoring the original version and always performing this "dance and sing" rendition live that has little to do with the mood and the meaning of the album version.

it's actually unbelievable that the album version made it onto Celebration.

I definitely get your point because nowadays the consumers' standards are very different to, at least, what used to be 15 years ago. All these 'artists' are part of the 'new' generation with fans under the age of 25 and they understand the market needs very well because everything in the 2000s and 2010s is substantially immediate. It's the main characteristic of the society we live in today. However, Madonna grew up and developed her career in a different time where the internet didn't exist and there were other parameters in the game... Have you wondered why she takes that long to release the latest music videos? And when they're out they're not that special compared to others'? Because she's just part of a different generation. And this is not criticism, it's just an observation... A few might consider Madonna as part of the past but that's because she played an important role in the last 30 years whether they agree with it or not. I'm sure we'll have the chance to get the Rebel Heart Tour DVD sooner or later, it's just the anxiety (extremely common these days) that's consuming us all right now. And I perfectly get why Madonna makes us wait... it's just her way of staying relevant. She's a smart bitch ya know.

Why does she have to follow the pattern of any other artist though?

I've always liked Don't Stop. I don't get the hate especially when all these fellas consider Hung Up one of her best. Even Music has silly lyrics...

To me it's clear the whole segment is about the 1950s, a love story even, Body Shop is little more than a Greased Lightning homage.

The album version of True Blue might recall the 1960s but the live version does not sound like that at all.

I'm pretty sure they are not going to pull another I'm Going To Tell You A Secret to piss off the fans with not releasing the full show. The bad press would hurt her future tours, really.

I loved both TGS and RIT renditions but doing the album version did feel pointless.

Wow at the over-analyzing! It's a show mostly about "having fun" and pleasing the fans with the hits for God's sake!

It's not like ANY of her tours were that elaborate, there are segments that seem to have a concept like DWT Geisha and MDNAT Transgression but that's all there is to it.

Excuse me? Isaac was not a "new-found foreign band" and he was mostly a backing singer. On S&ST the band was used in two songs which they were following each other so using the Kalakan Trio was not a rehash but actually something that refreshed her renditions.

If you want to talk about structure, then you can say she's been doing the same show for years now, since RIT, lot less stage props than before, mostly dancing or standing in front of big screens in 4 or 5 segments.

I remember so many people were bashing Don't Tell Me on RIT and Ray Of Light on S&ST because they were rehashes of previous performances yet so many people are not bothered about hearing the album versions of Holiday or La Isla Bonita again, nor about Madonna using the same segment types like Kylie used to.

This sentence does sum up the show for me as well, unfortunately. We are talking about a performer who was famous for "never doing the same thing" and "if you want to hear original versions, play the CD" and then she does mostly hits that were done on tours of 2004-2012 in their familiar versions. She already ignored the post-1990 stuff on the previous tour and does it again. She does the "Joan of Arc-inspired" theme for the 3rd tour in a row, Spanish-themed segment for the millionth time, cabaret-themed segment for the hundreth time again. It's just Madonna-by-the-numbers which is not something she used to be before the 2010s. The surprise song was the continuation of the request section of S&ST just this time it was not acapella but actual arrangements as well, yet most of the surprise songs were also retreads of past tours. If it wasn't for Take A Bow, a song never performed on tour before, I would not even mention that part at all.

That said, I still can't call the show a mess, it was well-put together, she seemed to be more into it than MDNAT and despite of my complains about same songs and arrangements, the setlist flows better (except Living For Love & La Isla Bonita, WTF?!). For MDNAT they had one good idea about the divorce in the first segment, the rest was bare bones stuff without any concept or meaning. The costumes are also a massive improvement, MDNAT was touted as her biggest show ever and yet those costumes looked incredbly cheap.

I don't hate the Rebel Heart Tour but I guess she is at the phase of her career where she only has to cater to the people who want more of the same and ride the nostalgia wave since she cannot grab the attention of new fans anymore.

I'm pretty sure the tracklist was not chonological and many ballads were left out because she had just scored one of her biggest dance hits ever so they did not want to showcase her slow side again that was covered with Something To Remember.

I would also guess that they did not want to open the set with Erotica. Plus they explained why American Pie was cut so I'd say the only real issue was the lack of new songs, they had so many Music outtakes for God's sake...

To me Like A Prayer from MDNAT sounds like The Immaculate Collection mix, quite uninspired and a step down from previous reinventions. I never liked how the album version got ignored due to the dance mix everyone seems to prefer, originally it's NOT a "dance and sing" type of track at all!

GMAYL a top-notch performance? It's almost an interlude where Madonna forgets to leave the stage, she barely "sings" any of the song and that silly cheerleader stint did not fit her at all. But it is one of the few performances of the show where she actually bothers with a proper choreography..

I think it's also natural several RHT numbers are this low as they are really just more of the same, we've had those songs in similar/better performances already.

Nope! Only from "Like a bitch out of order.." to "I thought it was you" it's live, then a faded in pre-recorded vocal starts exactly at the word "thought", smart move tbh

Also "Revolver" was fully pre-recorded as well except the intro where she speaks with the auto-tune, same goes for Hung Up!
