CDs started to take off in 1986-1987. After that, it depended on each country (in Spain, for example, they didn't really take off until 1991). Before those dates, if you wanted a CD, you had to look for it in specialty stores (mostly by mail order).

Madonna imagined a video for Gang Bang and even mentioned she's like Quentin Tarantino to direct it.  He got wind of that, and of course was delighted she though of him, but says he prefers to stick to directing films.  Meanwhile Madonna was able to bring her vision of the video on the MDNA TOUR stage as she envisioned a car and a motel scene.

Both + Radio was all about RnB and Dance music was niche. It all changed around 2009 with gaga/rihanna and the EDM acts

Yes, MDNA is great.  It's a darker album, but it's got some pretty fun songs on it as well.  I love the song "I Don't GIve A".  And "Beautiful Killer" is superb.   I never took issues with the singles.  They were pretty universal and if radio hadn't ditched her, I think they would have been pretty big hits.

I don't get dismissing Celebration?  It's far more representative of her career than Immaculate Collection.  Make no mistake, Immaculate Collection is the definitive compilation of Madonna from the 80's.  But even that collection, missed a few inclusions.  Celebration is pretty much her entire hit catalog.  Sure there are some minor flaws and exclusions, but it really is a nice representation of her career, especially for someone who is newly discovering her or re-discovering her.  I prefer "Celebration Tour".  It's name really has a broader appeal and it fits exactly to the point of her celebrating her 40 year career and back catalog.  I still can't help to think a re-issue of Celebration is gonna happen.  If they can improve on it, by adding what was missing and the last decade of singles, I'll gladly welcome that.

Wow!  Really?  I really know no one is as interested in Madonna as I am.  Actually, a colleague of mine, told me she was a huge fan of hers last year. I had no idea, but I didn't know her very well until last year.
Oh my!  Your setlist wouldn't have flown with the NFL at the time. They most likely would have rejected a such a set list.  NFL is huge and even Madonna doesn't have the power to fuck with them.  Even in 2012, she knew she had to keep things respectable and somewhat reserved.

I actually like Superstar and IFUp, but I agree Incredible and ESPECIALLY AutoTune Baby are not favs of mine. For every fan that who has a hated song, there are always others who love it.  Though, I can agree Autotune is probably worst song she's ever recorded.  LOL!

Adonna reacted to Voguerista in Can you think of any French-Canadian influences in her work?
Great question. The closet thing I could think of when I first read the title of this thread was the Olympia performance during the MDNA tour in Paris. I know this doesn't answer your question exactly,  but this performance paying homage to the French was just so natural for Madonna (and maybe it's because she has some French in her lineage)....

Exactly.  Sorry was another song I loved and thought should have been a huge top 10 hit for her in the U.S.  But at this time, corporate radio stations were hating on Madonna. They refused to play a lot of her new music by then.  Of course, some of the bigger cities still did so because they had a lot of dance oriented stations, but smaller states and communities never heard these songs on the radio.
Die Another Day was the last song I heard on my top 40 radio stations on a regular basis. It wasn't until "4 Minutes" was release I head Madonna on the radio again. After that, nothing!

Yeah, it's crazy because it annoyed me how Hung Up was doing so well everywhere else accept the U.S.  I remember calling into a radio station to request Hung Up and they said "NO" and hung up on me.  As the 2000's progressed, radio hated her more and more. That's CORPORATE America for you.

I think very similar regarding U.S Charts.  The fact Into The Groove didn't score a #1 in the U.S. was highway robbery.  The fact it didn't ge a physical single, kept it from doing so.  Beautiful Stranger suffered the same fate.
But let's remember some of the biggest and iconic songs never reached #1 if even top 10.  Madonna's "Holiday" is one of her most well known and iconic song but upon it's initial release, it didn't even reach top 10.  It took a couple re-releases before that happened in certain regions.

That valley house was a $20m dud and without googling she broke even at most; The Weeknd barely lived there and she bought it from him. She probably thought it was a good idea with the younger kids since it was a gated house within a gated community but it’s way too boring out there. The Beverly Hills / sunset strip house she rented during Covid was much closer to civilization, not that she was clubbing in the summer of 2020-2021. When she did the livestreams w Diablo you could sometimes hear the cars driving past her house near the Beverly Hills Hotel.
