FraP got a reaction from True Blue 84 in Rio de Janeiro live May 4, 2024
Most people were there (me included). We listened to her live voice.
The broadcasted version is dubbed with vocals from another show in many parts. And I noticed that also the crowd singing sometimes is not properly synced.
That's a pity, her voice was really good... I was hoping that since it was a live broadcast we were getting the real thing, but she didn't want that.
The camera shots are amazing, but audio is bad, unfortunately

Yes please 😁
But find a better fan recording please! And put the vocals over the broadcast vocals... Perfect 😁...
I have no idea how. So if anybody want to go for it.....

I'm almost tempted to try and put this audio on the broadcast.

The whole thing annoys the shit out of me, why the hell can't they broadcast something live without messing about with it.

No one ever said this was great quality. But its clear enough to hear that she was singing live while in the broadcast her vocals where edited. Scroll back and watch the posts about the Holiday performance and Don't tell me.
In all fan recordings there was no " bring back all of those happy daaaaaaaaays " it was " Bring back all of those happy days " ... This was used to prove our point. We know it's not a great recording...

Please let's not pretend that her team take all the decisions, the final ones are taken only by M

It's pretty much confirmed that they used vocals from other concerts. Maybe when they did not have time to autotune her voice, they replaced them and they did not check. In Don't Tell Me, when she kisses her daughter, her voice continues and it didn't sound like backing vocals to me.
(The video has timestamp of the moment I'm mentioning, if you press play it plays that moment)
In this video, if you watch the screens, her voice stops when she kisses her daughter and there's no backing track

I edited my previous message with this video too with timestamp of the moment I'm mentioning. It's obvious they changed her vocals and it wasn't necessary. I was there, 50 meters from the end of the stage and I saw her and heard her voice. In Don't Tell Me she sounded good. Why did they do this? 😢
Indeed
But I also noticed they did not autotune Express Yourself. If so, it's possible they did not autotune her live voice, but her live voice of previous performances.
I'll check EY again to see if its like this

Exactly! And now compare the Don't tell me you posted to the Don't tell me from the fan recording version
sounds COMPLETELY different. All that over edited stuff definitely wasn't nececary she sounded just fine as it was...

Being pretty observant, I totally missed the mark on this one. Initially, I figured the vocal-video mismatch was due to the strong backing vocals, but on second look, they're not backing vocals at all. You guys are really sharp!
After checking out the Holiday video and this one: yeah, they've definitely done some autotuning, cranked up the backing vocals, and in spots, swapped out her live vocals with pre-edited recordings.
Pulling all that off in just ten minutes must've been quite the challenge.

Yeah... at times, it's overly polished. Don't Tell Me is vocally over-edited. She sounded fine live. They autotuned her voice in several moments (I compared the audio, and it's quite obvious) and amplified the backing vocals.
But it was not an easy job, they just had 10 minutes delay
I suspect they also used vocals from other concerts. In Don't Tell Me, when she kisses her daughter, her voice continues to be heard (and it didn't sound like backing vocals to me).

I don’t mind the layered and processed vocals as long as it sounds natural, for example live to tell, everybody, into the groove, and bad girl sound like just the backing vocals she’s supposed to be singing over.
On the other hand the vocals in Hung Up and La Isla were completely fine.
Erotica sounded amazing on the non spoken parts
Open Your Heart was okay sounding
All this needs is a little bit more prominent lead vocal on some songs to make it a perfect recording

You know that they used rehearssl vocals to 'improve' the BsAs dvd and she sounded live enough for the producers to give them something to work. Kevin Antunes said in an interview that the production team wanted her to sound extremely youthful and that he had to go so hard on the vocals that he even had to pitch up what she said (and screamed; i.e. Borderline) during or in between songs because ot wouldn't have matched, otherwise. Please don't kill me as I can't figure out the source anymore.
"You know, I didn't really have a say in that. I approached it in a similar fashion as Stuart did with the previous tours. I took a good rehearsal day and mixed the vocal stem with the soundboard from Argentina but we quickly ran into the issue of her being out of tune a lot during those shows. You need to understand that we were almost at the end of the tour and Madonna's voice wasn't getting enough rest during the south american dates. So, we decided to pitch her speaking voice up a little to mix better with the rehearsals. Then when the label reviewed it, Madonna's tour director requested a clean-up of all the instrumentals we recorded during filming of the footage in Buenos Aires. It was very unfortunate because after that clean-up, everything sounded more studio-esque, which apparently, Madonna aimed for. With our PA system, it was very easy to work on that tour because our sound was very consistent across the board. If we didn't run into issues with the venue or technical stuff screwing us over - which rarely happened, anyway- the show in Berlin would sound just as good as the show in Los Angeles, for instance. I also did a version of the soundboard using stems from shows in which she gave good vocal performances and played it to her but she didn't like it very much. So, at the end of the day, a more artificial sound was preferred over a more rough mix. Sadly, for the audience noise, I had to use stock recordings to get it right sometimes. "

Guys, I'm still riding that high! I met so many people... getting there early was just incredible. Rio is amazing, the vibe was magic.
And nearly everyone was singing along. I'm not sure what was happening behind me, but with over a million people there, I can't imagine what they experienced. There was this magical energy all around us. It felt like we were all part of her performance, deeply connected to each other despite our differences, our diverse cultures, stories, and nationalities (it was mostly Brazilians, but there were a few other Europeans too).
It may not be her biggest tour, but with that kind of crowd, the show was insane (as any Madonna tour would be, except for Madame X, just saying) and I'd say we made history!
Watching the Globo recordings for the second time, I get emotional thinking about what she achieved at 65. I love her so much ♥️🥺
We could nitpick, bher voice isn't what it was without autotune, and there are things we might not like, but now's not the time. She's an absolute force of nature! We were all loving it like crazy.
The official footage doesn't capture just how engaged the crowd was. I caught four shows of the tour, in arenas across Europe and in San Francisco. Those arna shows were probably even better, but here it felt more grand, and I wasn’t overanalyzing. Yesterday I was fully in the moment—moved, laughing, dancing, and just living it up! It was a whole different thing!
I'm so happy I went to this show ♥️

FraP reacted to Blue Jean in What did M's sound engineering team do differently with IGTYS, CT vs S&S, MDNA, RH, MX live albums?
I always wondered that too. For eg, with Rebel Heart the vocals were far superior at the start of the tour. With todays technology they can easily record multitracks of every single show if they want to with the click of a button.

To answer the question, they started overproducing everything. Not just the vocals. They added instruments in Madame X that weren’t even heard at the shows. Her tour videos have become more “films” in recent years more than just a concert video. They even add in things that didn’t happen at the shows (eg Vatican speech) as well as lots of slow motion effects. I personally hate it. But tbh we are lucky we even get filmed versions, most artists don’t do them at all.

One thing that truly surprises me is that Madonna never really cared about being the best vocalist, and she could have worked on her vocals with a coach, like many other great vocalists... but then in the final edits, all the vocals get such an unnatural sound with all the smoothing and the corrections.
I know she's a perfectionist, but wouldn't it make more sense to work on the live vocals with a coach, and then need minimal editing and mixing effects, for an overall better result...
