Adonna got a reaction from Voguerista in Adonna chatroom
Where are you located because I honestly don't recall it EVER being played on radio in the U.S. where I live, but I do suspect bigger cities did play it a bit more which is why it did as well as it did without a single.

Totally agree. Also, the media was making sure the public knew of the video that she pulled. Then she did promo interviews and she questioned about the current state of affairs and between the album cover and her age, the public got the wrong perception of the album and corporate radio was less and less willing to play her.

Ahh that makes sense. It was more successful in the UK. Pretty wild being an American classic and it figures that the U.S. wasn't too appreciative to it her version. At the end of the day, I think she sounds lovely on the song and I actually like her vocals on it better than the original.

Snubbed? Hardly? She is one of the most nominated artists by MTV and is among the artists with most wins behind Beyonce (who has counted wins with Destiny Child) and Taylor Swift with 20 wins. She had 68 nominations in all with her latest in 2022. If she was "snubbed" she wouldn't have been nominated. I'd think she's done quite well considering the amount of wins she's had. I don't agree that she was a "fool to do speeches for them" or promote MX on the channel. She and MTV really had a run together. Unfortunately, it's not the same these days when the station rarely even plays music videos anymore.

But she wasn't snubbed. She was nominated many times that year. Just because she didn't win, doesn't equate to she was snubbed. If she was snubbed she wouldn't have been nominated for any as well for the times she was nominated after. Also, I was pleased by the artists who won in those categories. Each of them deserved it and were mostly won by artists who hadn't been nominated or won awards before.

That damn K-Ci & JoJo's "All My Life" jumped up 15 spots and stole the spot from Madonna, keeping her @#2.

That wasn't her or HER team's doing. It was the decision of the record label. They wanted people to buy the soundtrack instead. It actually worked. Unfortunately, Madonna lost out a possible top 10 if not #1 song because of it. Keep in mind, singles are to promote to sell an album. The film was getting a lot of attention. So was her song, so what better way to sell an album is to keep it exclusive to the album. It was actually a good strategy.

Yeah, I sorta forgot all about that. That's when he was trying to insinuate Madonna was adopting from Malawi for good publicity or something like that. So stupid. Madonna isn't that shallow. Also, she went out of her way to find out Malawi's situation after being embarrassed and hung up on, when some woman (I forgot the name) called her and asked her to help in Malawi. That's when Madonna admitted she had never heard of the country. Anyway, no one like that just adopts for publicity. She's poured so much money into that country, building schools and Medical centers.

Yeah Sorry was on the digital charts for a long time too. MTV and Vh1 played that video a lot too. I'd be curious how well the song would have charted if she sung it at the Grammys instead as well. And like you said, the album was doing quite nicely, so I guess that's a win.

Yeah, it got very little radio support in the U.S. But the song was constantly played on MTV and Vh1. I also recall how ITUNES it was #1 for a long time. I do agree if digital sales at the time got more weight, she may have had a #1 in the U.S.

Adonna got a reaction from littlestartman in Did Madonna ever do the Easter egg thing like TS in her videos?
You're correct. Warner had nothing to do with the content of the video. That would have been up to Madonna and the director. I'm sure with the expense of Frozen, they probably hoped to create a far less expensive video. POG and NRM didn't seem like they were cheap to make, so saving money on ROL could have easily helped finance the follow up videos better. I suspect the main reason they used the backdrop because it included a lot of relatable scenes that worked with the concept of the song.

Actually, Tarentino didn't direct the short she was in which was called "The Main Ingredient". That was directed by Allison Anders. He directed the last short in the film called "The Man From Hollywood".

Adonna reacted to Drownedboy in Candy Shop or Body Shop?
Candy shop, only for the opening number of Sticky tour, she was so full of power and commanding. And what a hit it was, for her at 50.
Body shop is ok, but there it something about her vocals that sometimes make me nervous,,,

American Pie was a moderate hit in the US...for a song without a physical single it did well. It was top 40 peaking at 29 with just radio play so had there been a single I'm gonna say it would've for sure been top 20 and MAYBE peak at #10 if it sold well. Definitely not as big as Beautiful Stranger but at the time it wasnt hated or anything like that. I think her paying it dust and all this weird hatred of her has definitely rewritten history.

Madonna imagined a video for Gang Bang and even mentioned she's like Quentin Tarantino to direct it. He got wind of that, and of course was delighted she though of him, but says he prefers to stick to directing films. Meanwhile Madonna was able to bring her vision of the video on the MDNA TOUR stage as she envisioned a car and a motel scene.

Adonna reacted to Prayer in Your fave B-Side/Extra track?
I'm sure we've done this before but let's do it again cause why not XD
Pick your fave Madonna b-side/extra track!
I have only included her proper single b-sides from back in the day or extra bonus album material for special limited editions or digital like "Fighting Spirit" or "Ring My Bell". Other material like tracks for charity albums ("Goodbye To Innocence") or collabs with other artists are not included here. Spanish versions ("Verás", "Lo Que Siente La Mujer") are also out.
Rock the vote!

I never know why Madonna wasn't in one of Tarantinod films because she would've been so fab in the tone of his films!
