Her first concept album. I have a theory that Like A Virgin was too actually but that's deep and for another time. The Rebel With A Cause. The 50's imagery. The leather jacket, The first real lean into her Italian Heritage. White Heat, Jimmy Jimmy and True Blue being the tracks that themed that record along with the Papa video imagery. Those blockbuster singles two of which having profound message. Flawless artwork for album and singles, Incredible videos for ALL of the singles which we previously hadn't had. Adult contemporary Madonna and her first forays into club dance music with the Open Your Heart 12" remix. La Isla being her most lasting and defining hit. The Poison Penns the Michael Jackson rivalry, her first real save the world anthem performed at Live Aid in Love Makes The World Go Round. Her first fully delivered era really. What's not to love? It's a perfect time capsule of the time and if you're viewing it through a Madonna 2022 lens or even just a 90's lens it's not gonna stack up to later projects. But as a stepping stone for the time. It was flawless. Remember her fans were largely between 10 and 15 yrs old at this time and this was 1986. None of them wanted a Kate Bush sounding art piece. This was primetime Saturday Night popcorn and heavy petting 50's teenage rebellion where idealistic love, bad boys, partying, acting out, teenage pregnancy , unrequited love and summer holiday romances were the subject matter ......and the world was all the better for it. Prince has actually had only 1 expanded reissue a year so far huh and he’s got endless albums. Purple Rain 2018 1999 - 2019 Sign O The Times - 2020 and had Piano and a mic Originals Welcome 2 America as new projects I know there have been some standard reissues on vinyl like Emacipation / Chaos and disorder / One Nite Stand /Versace experience and a few singles. ( which is what I think we’ll get with MDNA / WTG / GHV2 etc) Theyve hardly gone balls out and flooded the releases but what they have done is lush.

High key kill for a sneaky schedule but also want the surprises because aside from the odd insta scandal and the biopic I think it’s going to be a dull decade ahead for new Madonna material and tours. I’d actually prefer less touring and more content for a bit. Maybe your every two albums like the 80’s again.

I think they’ll milk it for all it’s worth tbh. Some will be anniversary special editions with added content and others will likely be straight up re-editions and maybe even remasters. There’s a wealth of material for some of her lesser commercial albums. Madonna will 100% want American Life and Erotica reappraised and repackaged. I just can’t see her not wanting to. Bedtime Stories is interesting though because it has her Tupac story. It’s the beginning of her spiritual rebirth. It has her favourite song Human Nature and her biggest and longest number one in the states Take A Bow and a Bjork co-write. It can’t really be discounted. Plus a wealth of Shep early versions and she seems to have a reinvigorated drive towards RNB and hip hop so who knows. I think you may be right about Hard Candy though. I imagine that whole period gives her the ick what with the souring of the record label relationship and the Guy era coming to a close. Who’s That Girl You Can Dance Im Breathless Bedtime Story STR Evita GHV2 Remixed & Revisited Hard Candy Celebration MDNA Madame X would probably be the most at risk. That’s 50% of her releases. I think American Life and Erotica have the iconic Girlie Show and Reinvention tours in their favour. I also think the full tours will finally hit music streaming platforms in an official capacity. I hope they don’t tamper with them though.

Well it’s a long standing rumour that would be cool if true. I just can’t believe anywhere in the history of Madonna that they made a video for every song on her first record apart from the one that broke her and became a huge hit introducing her to the world. It doesn’t add up to me at least.

I don’t find Rebel Heart dark personally. I know there’s an apocalyptic theme throughout but it seems to be more of a rush of all the joy, pain, triumphs, heartache and love that runs through your mind the second before you die. That’s always felt like the ultimate brief for that album as it’s so sporadic and almost like a greatest hits of her life and thoughts in many ways. Sort of finishing with The Queen Is Dead.

Like A Prayer in March would be so good. I think they’ll be at least seven unreleased tracks First Theres A Kiss Possessive Love Just A Dream Love Attack Angels With Dirty Faces and I think there’ll be a couple of ideas that her and Prince worked on as a curio. It’s entirely possible that they’ll revolve this Special Edition around her Blond Ambition Tour as it’s really the same era which could mean they include some I’m Breathless and Immaculate Collection Demos. Madonnas career always makes more sense as eras anyway and would certainly work for most of her albums up to 2000 there were always the odd soundtrack songs or collections with a few additional songs. I also don’t think she would mind this. Specifically the way Bowies stuff was gathered into eras. It kind of makes sense. Premadonna with Madonna Vision Quest and DSS with Like A Virgin You Can Dance and WTG with True Blue JML , RM, TUTBMP and I’ll Remember with Erotica Freedom & the STR singles with Bedtime Stories + the abandoned Shep versions Evita will remain isolated I think because it’s not her work directly. Ray Of Light - plus all the Pre orbit stuff the Rick Knowles stuff and the Ricky Martin duet. Music - Next Best Thing. Beautiful stranger. The Kylie demo American Life - Hello Suckers stuff. Die Another day demos. CYSMM. The Britney duet. Confessions - Luc Beeson musical and the Rocky stuff she was working on with Lenny Kravitz Hard Candy - all those superior Timbaland demos that were left off the record. I think having these in HQ finalised will be great actually. Plus the celebration tracks and unused demos.

Rebel Heart. What an album. It really only gets better with time. If the title track had been the lead instead of living for love we’d have had a smash singles run.

Wonder if that's something incoming with M too as Brit has been mentioning M a lot recently. Maybe Dua would return the favour. Lil Was X is a shoe in no doubt. Megan too though I just hope whatever they do I hope they're creative and interesting with it. 8 bar raps plonked in the middle is a lazy fix. Some of the people she's performed with in recent years could re emerge. Miley / Taylor / Ariana / Kanye. But I'd also live to see some older established artists pop ip. Maybe, Sting or Alicia or Maxwell or Gwen. Lots of options but It has to be good. Those Will.i.am Thriller mixes were a choice. Let's avoid that. Ultimately though they're forgotten in the long run and people just rediscover the albums through the new mixes.

I think it’s quality and don’t get all the hate. Anything that gives her streams a boost and wakes the youth market to her. Think of all those younger people who stream who will now have Madonna suggestions or auto play coming up on their playlists as a result of this. It’s not just an isolated song like stuff was a decade or so ago. It’s much more closely linked to marketing / exposure and a huge dose of cool cache for a market that is largely M blind. I loathe the way TikTok has a stranglehold on the music market these days but we are where we are. If more of these are in the pipeline for 2022 in a year where she’ll largely be silent on the new music front I’m all for it. FYI: it doesn’t change the fact that the original exists. It’s still there if you want to listen to it hens.
