This is something I've noticed not just for M but many other artists: a lot of concerts that show up on the official Billboard box office score as "sold out" are far below the venues' actual capacities and fans have noticed for a fact some of the shows they were in were visibly not sold-out.
Yet, it's not like it happens with every artist and every date, even in the same tour.
Take S&S, for example: the Seville show appears as not being sold out (47,712 / 59,258), yet the show in Munich shows as sold out (35,127 / 35,127), even though the stadium has a permanent capacity of 69,650 and I've read reports by people who attended that concert who noted it was "far from sold out".
The MDNA Tour Rio concert in 2012 which I attended *looked* sold-out, but they brought the provisional VIP stands closer and my boyfriend at the time, who attended the venue in the previous Rock in Rio edition, told me they made the space a lot smaller and the total attendance (34,709) is far below the 90,000 venue capacity.
So why some shows seem to be informed correctly and others don't?

I've made my fair share of CD's/DVD's for every artist I've been a fan/stan of over the years. That being said I don't particularly mind them, but selling them is against the law as it falls into the piracy/copyright infringement territory in many countries, including the U.S. But to whoever makes them and sells them, they're fools especially since that material can be freely downloaded if you know how to.
It falls into fair use in some countries due to there not having been an official release of the material (except for the music videos and stuff like the WTGT, TGS, DWT and CT, which I don't know how they get away with releasing).
And even though everything is available online, not everybody has the software/hardware to make physical copies for themselves, which is the main reason, I think, these bootlegs even exist.
-
Pretty much what the title says.
How do you guys feel about fans selling bootlegs of show/music videos/whatever has not been officially released?
Personally, I don't mind them. I only own one myself (Blond Ambition Yokohama on Blu-Ray), which is just the file we've always had of the Blond Ambition upscaled for 1080p and (unfortunately) cropped to a 16:9 aspect ratio and remixed to a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround audio. Do I like or find it fair to both fans and Madonna that these exist? No, I don't. But unfortunately, it's the only way to own a physical copy of a LOT of M's catalogue, most notably her tours.
Do you guys own any? Do you hate them with a fiery passion? Do you have them but you made them yourselves and don't sell them?
Let's discuss.

I agree with what you're saying, which is why I emphasized my ranking is personal and, of course, biased.
It's mostly from my own personal enjoyment than any other metrics.

Okay, so in honor of M's 60th birthday, I decided to revisit all of her catalogue, from albums to singles to music videos to tours (I just left her filmography out for... reasons), meaning I actually ended up coming across about a billion things I had never seen or hear before.
Did I get everything?
No. I think maybe seven people in the world might have. The amount of stuff she's released, all the remixes, edits, exclusive edits, alternate video versions, etc., means there will ALWAYS be something from her back catalogue I didn't even know existed, even after thoroughly searching through her remixology from three different sources and two different fan forums.
But because I am me and I'm a virgo and I like lists, I kept some notes. Notes which I'll now share with you. Just a reminder that this is my personal opinion and as such, extremely biased.
I'm just gonna put it as the actual file because it is loooooooong.
So here we go, maybe it can spark up a conversation or something:

THIS.
To me, this is good for everyone: Mambo makes money selling those editions for example, Interscope Records/Warner/or whatever is the exact record label makes money, and fans are happy.
For much less I have seen many other record labels releasing beautiful special editions, anniversary editions and box sets for countless singers who have (or have had) a much less successful and prolific career than Madonna. That's enough reason to do something for her TODAY (before the end of this year) either with her involvement or not. The rest are only lame excuses, which could have some basis with other minor singers, but not with Madonna!
It's more money for them, and they make fans happy. In my book, that's a win-win situation.
U2 (also managed by Guy Doesn't-Do-One-Small-Shit-For-Madonna Oseary) re-released special remastered editions of The Joshua Tree TWICE, once for the 20th anniversary, once for the 30th, and the 30th came in a bunch of different editions.
Kylie has had a million labels by now and every single one of them continues to milk the catalogue they have the rights to like... once a year, even if she left them almost two decades ago. They did a wonderful job remastering her first four albums and releasing them in special collector's editions with a DVD for visual stuff (music videos, etc.), remixes and B-Sides.
So far for M we've had: a 2001 remaster of the first three albums with two remixes per album, a terribly done remastering of her singles and videos in 2009 that only happened because M was contractually obligated to Warner to release it, and a bunch of basic, no-effort-required vinyl re-releases with old audio masters and zero pictures (plus the odd picture disc) for Record Store Day.
I would just like to remind everyone that Madonna is the biggest selling female artist of all times and the only solo artist that started in the 80's that a) is still active and regularly releasing new material that catches everyone's attention and is reported by the media regardless of the fact she's not selling 10 million records anymore (as is nobody else other than Adele), b) does not have to rely in nostalgia and greatest hits tours with the same setlist to sell out arenas and/or stadiums all over the world and c) is still the golden standard every single pop artist that came after her is held to and tries to emulate to varying degrees of success, none so far to the heights she has achieved.
I don't have... enough of a lifetime to explain all the reasons why this is ridiculous.
-
How soon is now
And does she not like money suddenly? Because that's the only explanation I can fathom for her back catalogue not being completely remastered with a bunch of collector's editions and available everywhere. Yes, I know there's a bunch of contractual stuff in place. But where there's a will (to make money), there's a way (to give the fans everything they want AND make money).

In the anniversary, yeah

Nice job BUT some of the singles were performed as one-off perfomances on other tours. Everybody was performed two or three times on the MDNA tour.
Those are included in the final tally!
Even the few a capella lines she did of Fever, Erotica, Hanky Panky, etc. during RHT were included.
S&S requests as well.

B-Day Song - I consider this to be the worst M song, so it's fitting... although I have to listen to it back to back with...
Auto-Tune Baby
Give It 2 Me*
Dance 2night*
I'm So Stupid
HeartBreakCity
Revolver
*I just really dislike this (thankfully dead) trend where you replace "to/too/two" with "2", I don't like this aesthetic at all

Straight fans feel the need to assert to everybody, including but not limited to complete strangers who did not ask, that they are, indeed, of the heterosexual variety.
That's the main difference I've observed.

Okay, so for curiosity's sake, I compiled how many times over the course of her tours M has sung every officially released single.
Keep in mind, though, this only covers her concert tours, promo tours and I also counted Tears of a Clown. This does not cover television performances and non-tour promo club performances, etc.
From what I've gathered, Holiday is her most performed single of all times (a whopping 415 performances), while What It Feels Like for a Girl is her least (2 performances), and there are 14 singles she's never done in concert, including some highly successful ones.
One of the files also includes when and where the earliest and latest performance of each single took place and yes, I am a huge nerd.
P.S.: If this is not the right place to post this, please let me know.
