  1. Qobuz has an extra 9-track Hi-Res version not available anywhere else digitally. That one plays the original 1986 masters.
The other three editions are the same for every digital outlet and they play the 35th version remasters:
    - Standard 9-track version, cover with lettering
    - 11-track version (2001 tracklist), no lettering cover
    - 35th Anniversary

I was not aware that was exclusive to Qobuz. They also have hi-res versions of Madonna, Like a Virgin and Who’s That Girl.

I got a membership to that site ($120 per year) and downloaded and free app from GitHub that lets you download their tracks in FLAC. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Do we have a list of songs or remixes or edits that have been available for the first time on digital by streaming? I'm building a playlist and I have some but not all I think

    Let's see...

    • Everybody (7" instrumental)
    • Lucky Star (7" version)
      • This is debatable - does the audio of The Immaculate Collection laserdisc count? It's CD-quality digital audio.
    • Angel (extended dance mix edit)
    • Gambler (extended dance mix)
    • Gambler (instrumental remix)
    • Like a Prayer (instra dub)
    • Like a Prayer (bass dub)
    • Like a Prayer (dub beats)
    • Fever (edit two)
    • Bye Bye Baby (Tallahassee Pop)
    • I'll Remember (Guerilla Groove mix)
    • I'll Remember (Orbit alternative remix)
    • Love Don't Live Here Anymore (Hot Mix Radio Edit)

That's where I got bored. I'm assuming some remixes of "Secret", "Bedtime Story", "What It Feels Like For a Girl", "Music" and other newer songs.

Yes. Ain't No Big Deal was the US B-Side of the single.

Hopefully, the 3:52 Fade of Papa Don't Preach is included. It appeared on the 40 CD Singles Collection and on the US 12" Promo.

No. The album version 4:28 is the version that was included on that compilation.

RE: the 40 CD Singles Collection - I don't think they have access to the Japanese masters or else we may have gotten the ACTUAL single remix of "Boderline" instead of another imposter.

"Don't Stop" would have probably done better commercially had it been released as the 4th single instead of "Human Nature" as Warner planned after it was played on the radio instead of "Bedtime Story". However it really doesn't feel like a classic tune. It's a cute little filler and as that, it serves its purpose.

"Human Nature" had much more of an identity. The video is amazing too. It was a bold choice and wasn't going to do as great but was a great artistic statement. I guess the fans are more tired of it nowadays since she performed the song A LOT since 2008 (every tour except the Rebel Heart Tour actually), but it pretty much feels like M's motto song nowadays. She's not sorry. :)

Exactly. I love the song and listen to it regularly, but it's just filler. The Dr. Suess-like rhyming would not have gone over well with a general audience in 1994/95. Especially from a huge artist like Madonna from which big things were expected. Had there been a Bedtime Stories Tour, I bet it would have been a great part of the show.

Bedtime Story performance at the Brits was fantastic one of her best live tv show performances and the week after the single was released in the UK and went straight into the top 10 after Take A Bow was kind of ignored in the UK and broke her long run of top 10 hits only reaching number 16.

I had no idea "Take a Bow" wasn't an international hit. That was another one MTV was fully obsessed with. It was such a big deal here in the US.

I can see how from a non-American perspective you would think this would have done well in the states, but not really. The early to mid 90s were a weird time here for mainstream music. Things got grittier and heavier. With a few exceptions, straightforward pop and dance pop sort of took a back seat or went adult contemporary. Most of what was popular from 92-96ish w/younger people fell under either “alternative” (a very wide umbrella) or gangsta rap and (grittier) r&b. Madonna was neither.

Bedtime Story was kind of her attempt at dipping her toe in the former, Human Nature the latter. Neither attempt was taken very seriously by their respective communities. But, both videos got a lot of airplay and I’m sure that helped the album. And hey, long term both songs are considered fan favorites so all’s well that ends well.

People blame slut shaming for her dip in popularity at that time and that was definitely a big factor, but also a lot of artists that were big in the 80s were sort of seen as uncool for a while.

This. There was a HUGE shift in the 90's. Everything got serious and everybody was grumpy and judgmental. Songs like "Don't Stop" and "Survival" with their corny lyrics would have been absolute flops here in the US. "Human Nature" didn't chart highly because it wasn't played much on the radio, but it was played ALL THE TIME on MTV, which doesn't effect it's chart position. I never realized it wasn't a hit until years later.

I remember someone was interviewing her about consideration of adding This Used to Be My Playground, Rescue Me and other song to setlist of certain tour, and she described Rescue Me as "dope song". So that's not the reason why it was left off.

Yeah but she said that almost 30 years after it's release. That doesn't necessarily indicate how she felt back in the day. She also said she'd puke if she ever had to sing "Material Girl" again and that she'd never do a greatest hits tour.

Fab but gutted that Into The Groove wont have its own release with the video edit and movie version.

Feel like it's a bit of a coup that we got the radio edit though. That's a real win. Nice little EP actually but the Burning Up alternate would have been perfection.

You can rip it from the Celebration DVD. DVD audio is higher quality than CD audio anyway (48 kHz vs. 44.1 kHz), if that makes you feel any better.

  9. I'm not against of remastering old tracks as long as they're close to the original masters (and improved). The use of multi-tracks is usually done to create multi-channel audio like making a dolby atmos mix and rarely for stereo mixes. Normally they use an unmastered mix but in Madonna's case, for some reason, they always choose the mastered tracks. And this is quite problematic because the sound is essentially being distorted.

What you’re describing is a remix not a remaster. Mastering is done after the mixing is complete.

Into The Groove has actually had a lot of stuff on its various formats

    • "Into the Groove" (Single Version) – 4:43
    • "Shoo-Bee-Doo" (LP Version) – 5:16
    • "Physical Attraction" (Single Edit) – 3:55
    • "Who's That Girl" (Extended Version) – 6:29
    • "Causing a Commotion" (Silver Screen Mix) – 6:39
    • "Into the Groove" (Extended Remix) – 8:31
    • "Into the Groove" (Remix Dub) – 6:22
    • "Everybody" (Extended Remix) – 7:06
    • "Everybody" (LP Version) – 4:52
    • Into The Hollywood Groove

I so hope it gets its only release and isn't lumped in with Angel as this artwork is just too Iconic.

I feel like they HAVE to release "Into The Groove" on it's own. It's such a classic, not just a Madonna classic. And it was released as it's own single in several countries, so it's not like they'd really be revising history or anything.

@clkelley39which mix are you talking about and what do you mean about her vocals?  The Orbit Alternative mix shared by @Would You Like To Trysounds great. I can increase the volume a bit, but it sounds just fine.

@PaperFacesI'm referring to the Guerilla Groove Mix and the Orbit Alternative Mix, but mostly the Guerilla Groove Mix. There's so much distortion, particularly on the vocals. But yes, that FLAC @Would You Like To Try posted of the Orbit Alternative Mix does sound much better.

I'll DM you about sending you the files.
