I would take the wtg tour over any of her auto-tune backing tracks crap she uses on s&S, mdna and rebel heart tour - at least the wtg has live vocals and real musicians :(

I like to think that since The Confessions Tour, with the amazing job that Jonas Akerlund did with the edition, it became so obvious for Madonna that she doesn't need to emulate that "live concert feeling", because it can't be emulated. I mean, if you want to get that real feeling, you won't get it from a video release you will get it attending to the live concert. A film it's just merely documentaton that can be delivered in different ways.

One of the reasons why I like her artistic work so much, is because she knows how to take advantage of her resources. She can take advantage of the tools in a recording studio, and knows how to bring a great show over a stage, even if her vocals sounds very different live. Also she knows that the aesthetic experience will be different attendig to the show from watching it on a screen, the video have their own discursive tools and its own narrative, so why not take advantage of them?

Also when I attended to the concert I thought that this tour in specific could be very difficult to film. In MDNA, all that happend over the stage was very intertwinded, it was a completely different experience, it was a different kind of concert (and with more artistic value, in my opinion). Rebel Heart was more about the emotion, some backdrops were reused, some others weren't very interesting, she barely danced, the setlist and the arrangements of her songs were very criticized for some fans, and the most striking feature of the stage was its lenght, but she delivered so many touching performances, as if for the first time, the most important thing about the show was her as a person, as a human and vulnerable beign. Raw emotions over artistic value. So how the heck do you capture that in a video? Well I guess that you don't, you live it or you don't.

So I guess the bet was to make it look espectacular, so the oversaturated colors, the backdrops overlays and the slowmotion effects helped a little to give it more dynamism, and I liked how that flows, in many songs all that effects are really well synchronized with the songs or the choreography, but, and I hope I don't sound bitter, I'm not really very pleased with the frenetic changes of takes. It really makes so difficult to see what's happening, changing the camera so quickly really kills all the beautiful work done with the colors and don't really let you appreciate the great work done with the shots.

Watching some songs for separated works well: The fighting sequence of Bitch I'm Madonna looks way more dynamic than the fight in Gang Bang, and was less elaborated, all the takes of the public in True Blue really makes you feel so much love, it was one of the cutest thing I ever seen, the choreo in Candy Shop was really very well synchronized with all the special effects and the slowmotion, and in Holiday all that overlays really give it a really cool 80's vibe... but all together is really exhausting and confusing to see

Honestly how People can like this crap is beyond my understanding! in the whole concert there is nearly no real time motion????
it feels like watching getty Images pix more than an actual Show to me. I for myself watched that crap once and never again! It will
also be the first product i won't buy! How can you have so many costume & hair changes in one song? If she wants to do that she can
ad it as a funny bonus but not for a regular live Show! i got lost in all the visuals all the time and couldnt even figure out where on stage she
actually was sometimes! All those slowmos make it extremely unreal and never gives you a feeling of seeing a live Show! Nearly each song
gets ruined by either overediting, Studio vocals only (like in Deeper) that sounds more of a Remix with those annoying
fake audience cheers thrown in or costume & hair changes which never allows you to fall into her Magic of performing live :((((

This is a very high sofisticated art Performance Video but in no way a live Show! very sad :((

I was very happy with the album itself und the tour as a live experience. Not happy with the filmed tour. Hate the editing, it's just too much. I can't focus on anything. Don't know why M bothers to pick the best dancers, choreographers etc.... you can't follow their moves at all. Feels like they are just running and jumping around all the time. The sounds is ok, but you get the impression she can't sing. Too much play back and compression.

The ballads/slow songs are fine - with less editing, beautiful long shots and her raw voice.

It's a shame, I loved everything about the tour. But I rather watch videos on youtube than this product.

Well I only watched the second segment in the non-hd version so far as it's the most relevant part of the show to me.

Vocals are just as cleaned up as on the previous 2 tour films but it's less noticeable since there was less live singing in the first place as the backing tape drowned her vocals on most songs. Body Shop sounds nothing like what you can hear on audience recordings and just as I suspected for long, you can hear album vocals in Deeper And Deeper.

The editing is good for those who haven't seen it live but based it on periscope and youtube since it's practically a different show but it turns out they really did not listen to any of the complaints, it's once again a music video feel and many fans complained about Olympia footage in MDNAT which was barely noticeable compared to what goes on in Like A Virgin! She doesn't even want to pretend it's a proper recording of one of her shows anymore, no wonder the "DVD filming" wasn't an event this time.

Due to the cleaned up audio and the several different video footage I seem to notice many times the vocals don't match her lips, like in the end of Deeper And Deeper, which is not a huge issue but another thing that would piss off the fans who complained about the previous release.

S.E.X. seems to be a few seconds shorter, Deeper And Deeper has the repeated chorus removed in the middle and the break afterwards was always a lot longer. I agree the removal of LDLHA is seamless but hopefully these are in the +15 minutes she mentioned that would be on DVD.

InfinityWithin reacted to Debrah in Madonna to collaborate with Britney & Ariana?
how about Madonna collaborating with talented musicians instead    but they tend to be older than 30 so she probably doesn't want to be seen near them!  bullshit acts like Britney or Ariana (good voice..., and? Where's the art? Where's the substance? ) shouldn't even be considered to work with M.    she clearly doesn't see how all the shit collabs she's done have damaged her credibility as a musical artist. Had she collaborated with Leonard Cohen on the album Pat Leonard had produced, like these two wanted, things might have been different. But she clearly prefers to work with inconsequential BS "artists".  "It's all about the music" she once said   ... (cut to her collaborating with the least musical people modern showbiz has to offer.. Britney, Oakenfold, Solveig, Avicii, ...). Wether it is about dance music or more serious music, there are many legendary and talented people out there she could work with.  Sorry for the rant but come on. Ariana?

InfinityWithin reacted to Elazul in You'll See Vs. Ghosttown
To me these two songs are the pinnacle of generic Madonna, two ballads that could have been done by any other act. While You'll See sounded very "current" due to David Foster's omnipresence in the mid-90s, Ghosttown always felt "late" since it imitates the Ryan Tedder sound popular in the late 2000s. It should have been a bonus track on Celebration or something, same time when Leona Lewis' Happy was released.

I'll go with You'll See because of her gorgeous vocals on it.

In my opinion, a live album should be what was heard live on that particular show. If vocals need reworking, modification, to be re-recorded in a studio or get swapped with studio demo or rehearsal vocals, then the show should not be released live, or should not be promoted as a live album, in my book. And if reworkings are going to take place, at least take the time to make it at least sound authentically live.

I found with the S&ST that it's not just the overly edited vocals, but the music just seems fake to me. A lot of the tracks seem like the studio version instrumental, layered over a very, very quiet audience track (to the point you hardly hear any audience at all in many parts), with vocals from somewhere other than what was actually sung live. All in all, resulting in just a really fake and disjointed sound that does not sound live at all in any way, and is super disappointing.

Madonna has always been a "definitive statement" artist when it comes to her products. The adding of bonus tracks, 'deluxe' and 'super deluxe' editions is very recent, and i would guess its an Interscope marketing strategy, since thats pretty much how it goes when youre an artist on their roster.
The fact that she is stingy with extras on dvd, which irritates me too, but these have generally already leaked during a tour, or the element of surprise has been killed in some way. as frustrating as it has been to not have backdrop videos as extras, or extras period (aside from that truly charming backstage mini-doc on the Sticky and Sweet BR/DVD), ive always been pleased with the final product of ANY tour video. whether that's a VHS taped "via sattelite" HBO broadcast of a single show repackaged into an official definitive representation of an entire tour, or a highly edited and stylized film, they still capture the essence of "The Tour" rather than "The Show".
BUT, I'm also someone that has never minded a backing track or lip syncing, should the performance call for that kind of perfection, so having sweetened vocals (while laugable at times) and turning-back-the-clock filters don't bother me. What bothers me is sound editing and seizure-inducing shots that take any opportunity to focus on the performance away.

I cant wait to see this concert film. this show was a hallmark for me being a fan since the beginning, it spoke to me in ways i never expected, and i was moved by her mood and her character in such a "tribal" way (sorry for that pun, but its true), that seeing it again from HER definitive perspective is no less thrilling than lining up to enter the venue.

And, call me crazy, but ive always wondered if the relationship with M and her fans has always been a 'chicken or the egg' type of thing. Has her bitchy sense of humor rubbed off on all of us? Or has the bitchy competition of the fanbase vieing for the "NUMBER ONE FAN" title rubbed off on her?

.....well. the guy was right....the over editing and "polishing" of vocals takes away the live energy...which basically is what we all want to be reminded of when we watch a concert video. Even confessions was too 'clean" as far as sound goes. It's actually sad. gone are the raw emotions from live broadcasts like the DWT and Girlie Show....even the shot vocals from the BA tour from Niece and WTG Turin were more captivating than the MDNA or SS tour videos. It started with confessions and her insecurities seem to only be getting stronger with age...whereas for most people not in the spotlight we tend to give less fuck the older we get.

I agree that people shouldn't be rude on social media but one shouldn't egg on the hate, either. It gets exhausting and eventually you just stop rooting for and defending the person who gets it.

I agree she can do anything she pleases artistically and she doesn't owe anyone anything, and I agree if you don't like it don't buy it, but if we're talking about respect then she shouldn't constantly try to outdo rudeness. If people wanna cheer that, that's cool. I'm not here for her glamour or her being the queen, I'm here because of her message and talent.

I don't think her throwing around heavy terms for no reason comes from a place of humour. It's hyperbole and one of the reasons people don't take her seriously when she talks about important things. She's been one of the few artists who continues to talk about things that matter, so it's a pity for her to undermine her own message like that.

Having said that, I'm putting it down as a moment of weakness and let's just move on because there's too much infighting and bullshit in the world already. Art should be a joyous experience, especially in times of darkness.
