  1. Unless your a man and what you earn is forever. No one insults male legends by "attempting" to take away anything from them. In fact, they are praised endlessly for what they didn't earn as well. They are the only ones who can take away their legend status...and they can't even do it no matter what. Men are worshipped by both men and women.
  2. Oh dear, I hope her film has more depth than either of one of those films. Success and depth together would be great but I have to choose I'm rooting for depth.
  3. I bought Madonna's music because I liked her music. Am I the only one? Her references to sex were blown out of proportion by people I assume were not buying her music? People rely too much on critic's voices. If you look through Madonna's catalog her songs cover every human experience. She talks about everything. It's all about what you pay attention to and obviously her critics only pay attention to references to sex. That includes fans of pop stars who claim to be inspired by Madonna. They do not look all that deep into Madonna because their idols also do not look all that deep into her work. They see what they want to see and nothing else serves their purpose.
  4. We aren't though. We're bored. That's worse for fans of an artist.
  5. I wasn't sure what to name this thread so excuse the awkward title. It's just that after listening to two profound Madonna songs with pretty serious lyrics...two what I would describe as not so profound songs came on after by other artists. I will go with the second song after I listened to Secret by Madonna to talk about. A song came on that I would describe as an 80's fun song but not what I would call deep. It kinda annoyed me that Madonna's work, no matter how amazing, is often compared to just "fun" little songs. ? I am trying to make my point without criticizing other music that I like so bear with me. I like fun songs but for me they do not compare with a more serious song. For me. Does anyone else experience this? Do you feel Madonna's work is often compared to music like I described? Is this the public's perception of her? Is this "music's" perception of her? Did I not listen long enough to hear a more serious song? ? Am I just ranting?
  6. Haven't heard it in awhile. Listening to it right now. Love the vibe and the lyrics. The lyrics. ❤ My favorite lines: "Remember remember never forget" "All of your life has all been a test" "You"ll find the gate that's open even though your spirit's broken." "Open up my heart 'Cause my lips to speak Bring the heaven and the stars Down to earth for me" Wrestle with your darkness....I might as well just post all the lyrics. Madonna's voice is so comforting in this song as it is in many songs. Madonna's work still seems to have an universal connection in this album as she is talking about what we all experience. Her albums in the last decade became more introspective as in personal experience. There are songs I can definitely relate to but her best songs are more universal. This song is introspective but who can not relate to it? She is talking about her struggles but she also sounds detached a bit and challenges us to think about our own.
  7. From A Hard Day's Night: Simon Marshall : Anyway, if you don't cooperate, you won't meet Susan. George : And who's this Susan when she's at home? I would rather meet Madonna one on one rather than in a zoom where her public persona guides her conversation. Maybe if I have a ton of money that I could just throw into a obligatory conversation with someone I have admired since I was 15.... I would just for fun. Maybe. ?
  8. 1. Miles Away - 6 2. Ghosttown -6 3. American Pie -8 4. Don’t Tell Me -10 5. Come Alive -8 6. Burning Up -10 7. Medellin -7 8. Crazy For You -10 9. Jimmy Jimmy -8 10. Gang Bang -7 Miles Away and Ghosttown are better songs than I am giving them credit for. I do not know why I am not that emotionally attached to them. I want to be. I love Madonna's version of American Pie so I gave it a generous 8 but feel the concept could have gone further. The way it is it just feels nostalgic. Don't Tell Me stands out as a ten here. Still strong on it's own and can challenge Madonna's best. Another generous 8 to Come Alive because I feel such an emotional connection to this song. Burning Up is classic Madonna. Medellin Uplifting song when I hear it. Crazy for you earns a 10. I love Jimmy Jimmy although I know many don't. Jimmy Jimmy does a phenomenal job supporting the album True Blue in it's vibe. It's catchy too. I have mixed feelings about Gang Bang. What I like: It's a metaphorical exercise in expressing anger and hurt in an artistic way. For that it gets a 7.
  9. Today it's I'll Remember Nobody Knows Me or X-Static Process
  10. 1. Holiday 2. Angel 3. True Blue 4. Express Yourself 5. Thief Of Hearts 6. Sanctuary 7. Drowned World (Substitute For Love) 8. Impressive Instant 9. Die Another Day 10. Future Lovers 11. Give It 2 Me 12. Love Spent 13. Bitch I'm Madonna 14. Come Alive This was an interesting exercise as they are not necessarily my favorites. A few I think I am spot on but others I had to really think about and put myself back at that time. For various reasons these songs were most likely my focus at the time.
  11. I am not afraid to die because I believe in the beautiful purpose of life and I follow that purpose. I stand by my knowledge of goodness and equality and will not turn my back in that knowledge no matter how painful others make it for me. To be where you want to be requires sacrifice and work and not giving in. I can be myself. Your words designed to "help me" are not needed. I will not concern myself with what you want for me You are in pain so you look out towards me in criticism. You value fame because you feel less inside or you feel some are better than others. You do not see the uniqueness in one as part of the whole that is all of us. Madonna struggles with this I think. I think she sought fame to fill a void and she certainly wasn't the first. She could be talking to her critics but she could also be talking to herself. I do feel like she is in a prison so to speak but she is still moving forward. Going through a lot of pain can summon depressing views but you have to persevere. Because humans are influenced by so many emotions they have to fight to remain the person they are come what may. There is a game played by small circles and also on a global scale of people feeling they are above others and people who want to be good people stand by out of fear and pressure from ones they either benefit from or are afraid of. I have early on seen Madonna as someone who does not play this game and people just do not understand that. People who think Madonna is conceited most likely think she is beneath them or beneath others. I relate to the song and Madonna because I also never learned this game and in fact despise the game and it has not won me any popularity contests. People can go as far as hating you for not playing the social game. If a group sees you as being able to survive without them they will go as far as ridiculing you or even telling lies about you. I'm not concerned. Your lies, insults etc...will not stop me from being who I am. My soul is stronger and you sadly do not understand that. You live in a world where you control and are controlled. Despite the pain it has and will be inflicted upon me I will not take back my words about what I know to be true. I believe I am on the right side of the good in the universe. I have been chosen to suffer for the greater good and fight oppressors. I am strong. Death is not the end of all. I am on the side of love and creation. Love wins You will have to answer for what you do. You are making a mistake to think you will not have to answer for aligning yourself with hate and destruction.. My belief is strong and your pressure will not make me give in. Human beings are susceptible to pressures. People turn away from what they know is right out of fear that they will be turned away and not cared for. The struggle for good and evil is internal. What people will do for love, what people will do out of loneliness.... The people that do us harm also think others truly look up to them but this not the case. Humanity has been working towards learning this lesson for ages now. Look past all your superficial possessions, status and distractions that bring you personal or world wide fame and look towards a world where you can be yourself and no one will be able to suppress you. Life is a learning process. ❤
  12. I always thought that Madonna was thinking of Christopher Flynn in I'll Remember.
  13. An artist's work comes from within and people can relate to it, understand it, emphasize with it, admire it...or not.
  14. "Even Madonna released some singles in the 80s that weren't that good" ????? Are we rewriting history to soothe the egos of today's pop stars? (Please keep in mind I am just kidding with you.) ?❤ Which some of these were not that good? Everybody Burning Ip Holiday Lucky Star Borderline Like A Virgin Material Girl Crazy For You Angel Into The Groove Dress You Up Gambler Live To Tell Papa Don't Preach True Blue Open Your Heart La Isla Bonita Who's That Girl Causing A Commotion The Look Of Love Spotlight Like A Prayer Express Yourself Cherish Oh Father Dear Jessie
  15. Discrimination is based on fear. Depending on the unchecked severity of that fear or how irrational it is it can turn into hate and or very bad decisions. Everyone except for the most enlightened among us is afraid of getting older because getting older means eventually dying. Being ageist is not irrational to a person who thinks this is all there is. To people who believe the soul is eternal, aging is just transformation of the body but the soul is as it always was and they tend to pay more attention to what is going on inside a person. Certain religious teachings have really lost the plot, especially in the United States. They focus more on the physical than the spiritual which is why people secure in the belief of the soul are finding thier own way spiritually. Ironically the people clinging most to religion and advertising thier beliefs are the ones who believe the physical is all there is if they are being honest. Thier interest in religion is based on fear. This is why they often become fanatical and thier beliefs often are the opposite of the teachings. People who believe in the soul of a person are not immune to the biological realities of our existence which is where our struggle comes in. When I was young I cut my hair and used makeup because I believe it enhanced my appearance. I dye my hair now for the same reasons. Am I not accepting getting older if I dye my hair? Maybe that is true but I do not think of it that way. I liked the color of my hair the way it was before just like I preferred a certain eye shadow in my twenties because it enhanced the color of my eyes. I don't know. I value myself as a person now as much as I did then. Do others feel the same? I do know one thing and that is my main focus is on what is going on inside a person so while I can have an opinion on choices Madonna makes regarding her appearance I do not obsess over them. Are fans who go on and on over the fact that Madonna is not "aging gracefully" actually not aging gracefully themselves? It's just a question. Like aging is a condition and it's not just the person looking after thier physical appearance the same as they did in thier twenties. Should we be paying more attention to her thoughts than we are? Ask and you shall receive. While I thought Madonna looked cool when she first arrived on the music scene what set her apart for me was her aura. There were a lot of music stars that looked cool but my main interest in Madonna was what I saw beyond her looks. I always thought she dressed up to get people not like me to pay attention to her ? because they could not see beyond physical appearance; especially when it came to women. I think Madonna wants desperately to think on a purely spiritual level but is bound by physical appearance because so many demand that and I do believe that constant pressure has caught up with her a bit where her appearance has become somewhat rebellious in nature. She's pushing back against people who only care about the physical, pushing back against the unfairness of nature. Older men date younger women so she will date younger men. If something seems unjust, she fights it. She also brings out what people pay attention to in her work and her public persona is part of her work as an artist I believe. Is she also working on belief in only the physical? Her public persona suggests that's true but her work as a music artist has had me fooled then. Her interests seem to go way beyond physical appearance and age. Aging gracefully in my opinion is also about maturity. I do not believe most see the real her.
  16. As a unique collection of songs that express different moods, eclectic genre, emotions, and pure Pop sensibilities, it is an unmatched discography.
  17. The ongoing battle today is to toughen up the weak who rely on and or do not want to upset the patriarchy. I'd rather be unpopular. Madonna's challenge of the patriarchy in the 80's and 90's was new and exciting but now that we have had a "revenge of the patriarchy" in everything from music to politics in the last 20 years or so many are siding against her. Stay strong Madonna. ?
  18. 1. She is unique 2. She is my voice 3. Her music speaks to me like no other.
  19. I voted for 1990 because it even impressed me how huge she was that year. It seems like the mid eighties are being misrepresented in this poll though. The mid eighties were iconic. Maybe because of the lull music wise between the "Who's That Girl" Soundtrack and Like A Prayer? Then there was all that marriage mess in the press. It's funny to think about it now but I remember a VJ or Kurt Loder?..introducing Madonna's new video Like A Prayer and asking "where has this girl been? Don't remember exactly how he said it. I was kinda fed up with all the press or maybe I was mad at her for not devoting all her time to music that I didn't want to be receptive to what she had coming out. Of course I became receptive in no time. She was a mega star through the eighties but 1990 was when she was elevated to a throne among stars. 1990 was the point of no return year as a legend. Through hits and misses after that she has essentially been riding that wave of legend security that has never been questioned until the last decade. Madonna in the 90's could easily make artistic choices without worrying about her legend status and Ray of Light I think came out of that secure confidence in her career and was the icing on the cake. This secure confidence made her a darling to the media and to the public. She has had iconic moments since then. Anyway, 1990 was dazzling.
  20. I am using "trolling" in the sense of being provocative. For Madonna, as an artist, the goal is not to start an argument in the negative sense (although her behaivor often does) but to make people think. A great many people mock looking deeper into things and hang on to pressured beliefs shared by whatever group they have attached themselves to. So they are left with just reacting to what someone should or should not be doing. Energy has to go somewhere and this particular energy has found it's way into pop culture. Art used to be driven by looking deeper. It seems now to be driven by a controlled set of rules which used to be on the outside looking in. Madonna truly does not fit in and I thank God for that. The drag is not in how she appears, the drag is her fans "obsession" with how she appears. In the earlier years I can't tell you how many times I couldn't understand the negative reactions to what I considered thought provoking and a lot of times beautiful. Why does how she appears matter so much to us? It's a valid question and can have many different answers with thoughts being just that, thoughts. I can have an opinion on how she appears but if it goes beyond that and I actually get upset at her for how she appears, that's obsession over her appearance and I need to ask myself why her appearance is so important to me? I do not think Madonna's fans would be exempt from an invitation to consider what they think about things and people. An artist speaks to the observer.
