  1. I don't mean to sound harsh but honestly, where do people get these theories from? Especially when literally one search on YouTube proves them to be utter bollocks .
  2. I've read that too but literally every source cites $5 million for Express Yourself so who knows? : https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2014/08/24/the-top-5-most-expensive-music-videos-of-all-time/?sh=e5522e71ca52 https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/strike-a-pose-madonnas-20-greatest-videos-16146/1-express-yourself-1989-45349/ https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/madonna-bond-michael-jackson-space-2659903
  3. Both, Express Yourself and Bedtime Story cost around $5 million. Scream apparently cost around $7 million.
  4. Her last (ok, most recent - let's be optimistic) #1 in US, 4 weeks on top, platinum selling single - I'd say that's pretty huge.
  5. Uhm, you do realise that image quality has little to do with the actual production cost? It's like watching a 10th generation VHS copy of "ET" and saying the movie looks low budget.
  6. But she had been raped in real life and she had her work stolen and leaked. Who are you to tell her how she should feel about it?
  7. She referred to herself as "The Queen" way before MDNA, just watch "I'm Going To Tell You A Secret". It's always done with a wink as far as I can tell but people may take it as they wish. She's been self-referential as far back as "Causing a Commotion", perhaps not as overtly as on Rebel Heart but it's there. Madame X Tour was the most beautiful show and my favourite time seeing her live - she never sounded better, she was vulnerable and more human than I've ever seen her and I feel incredibly lucky I was able to be there. I get that the show wasn't to everyone's liking but there certainly was nothing "cheesy" about it.
  8. What's wrong with sparse production?
  9. How? I always understood that quote as being about giving oneself permission to be honest about one's desires. How's that problematic in #MeToo times?
  10. Public Enemy never credited James Brown either which is also why they never actually sued Kravitz over Justify My Love.
  11. According to Shep, The Immaculate Collection and his work/mixing on it was very last minute, "a rush job" as he put it. That wouldn't make sense if "Vogue" had been written with it in mind, many months before.
  12. Agreed. "Angel" especially, it's the best song on "Like A Virgin".
  13. You really are a glass half-empty kind of guy, aren't ya?
  14. Like A Virgin I love Nile Rodgers but this is probably among my least favourite productions of his and there's too much filler. MDNA There was definitely a decent album's worth of material there but it all feels a bit disjointed. Confessions on a Dance Floor I honestly don't remember when was the last time I listened to the whole album. Notable mention: Rebel Heart Simply cause it just doesn't feel like an album to me at all, more like a Spotify playlist. There's some decent songwriting in desperate search for coherent production.
  15. That may be true but Madonna is also the ultimate proof that you can make up for vocal shortcomings with charisma and stage presence, neither or which Dua Lipa is in possession sadly. I watched her performance on Graham Norton last week - she looked great, sounded great, the staging was fun, her dress was to die for and yet she looked dead behind the eyes for most of the song. I like her, like her songs but she has ZERO stage presence.
  16. They seem to be incapable of sourcing original tapes to remaster the "Like A Prayer" album for its 30th anniversary but they will source and edit ones for an obscure remix from 1990. Sure...
  17. Of all the artists you bring out Janet as a favourable example? Bless...
  18. Destroyed her reputation as a live act? You mean by being the musical director of the highest grossing tour for a female artist ever?
