  1. I'm curious if these nights may be designated for filming the show. Just the name "citi sound vault" along with "intimate shows" sounds like a broadcast or something, imo. If by intimate they mean just front of house and orchestra seats on sale, that could free up the balconies for cameras. I can't see her NOT filming it, mainly because the whole MX project has been extremely visual, so to not present to the gp with the ultimate visual message (she's been literally typing out in the videos, lol) Madame X would be the ultimate tease! Wishful thinking, I'm sure. It's probably a contractual thing with Citicard or sponsorship of the tour.
  2. I like the idea of a residency. I live the big shows, but an intimate setting for multiple nights would/could create a more solid production because of the stage set up and breakdown wouldn't hinder stage effects, and the sound would be more consistent night to night.
  3. My heart says American Life. My body says Confessions. Impossible choice. Intervention, Nothing Fails, Nobody Knows Me, I'm So Stupid. Get Together, Forbidden Love, Future Lovers, Like It Or Not. Theyre all in heavy rotation, still. I can't choose between these two albums.
  4. While theAretha Franklin "tribute" was on par with a someone's brand new best friend from the office making the retirement speech for her new best friend, i didnt find it offensive, but it did remind me of all the things people say about Madonna's old 80's heyday as being 'her at her best". Aretha Franklin was not an MTV artist like Tina Turner or Cher were. Same age group, sorry if that comes off as ageist, but Aretha had 3 videos i can remember. Pink Cadillac, I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) w/ George Michael, and a truly ridiculous cover of Jumpin' Jack Flash for that film's soundtrack. I always got the sense she was probably forced by the record company to make those, so she wasnt some early video pioneer, she just happened to make a couple of pop singles that needed a video treatment. anyway.... Her costume was extra. I didnt like it, but it didnt bother me either. Somehow it worked by the time she was done with her speech. I dont know how she does it.
  5. HeartBreakCity This song is a prime example of "Madonna Magic" On paper its an eyeroll, cheezy lyrics and low-impact song title... Then hearing it, its sonic simplicity is a perfect choice for M's stellar vocal delivery. The "Now I----I-I-I-I-I-I-----I'm in the middle of Heart Break City.." chorus is one of those Madonna songs that I have lived for all these years. There's certain phrasing choices and the patented Madonna melodies that are like an audio fingerprint to my ears. Honestly the Rebel Heart album will remain one of my favorites for years to come. There are some amazing songs that no doubt will be overlooked down the road, but seeing HBC on the Rebel Heart Tour (esp w/ the LDLHA addition) will be one of those 'had to be there' moments, and it struck the same chord with me each time i saw it live, and it still does when i hear it on the album.
  6. I love Love Spent. The ABBA/Hung Up reference was clever, and I love the shift the song takes after the bridge. It’s almost as if the song boils over until it evaporates at the end. I like the drama of it, but I tend to be more drawn to Madonna’s more pining, pleading vocals. The MDNA album, although imperfect, has some great moments that I still love to listen to on regular rotation.
  7. I voted for Skin. But it was really a toss up between that track and Sky Fits Heaven, which is still great, but I’ve always felt it needs an edit. It can sometimes feel repetitive, whereas Skin I just wish could go on forever.
  8. The song itself was pretty straight forward that it related to popularity, American pop culture and social identities she both embraced and were cast upon her. IMO I love the rap, and I found it to be cheeky and humorous in just the right way, but it also underlined the absurdity of playing the same ol’ Pop music game at that point in her life. I think she still gets a kick out of knowing what “the game†is, and that she can say what’s on her mind in clever and unexpected ways (like no one else can)... and it still make people uncomfortable or scratch their heads wondering what or why she does the things she does. While most artists at that time were writing America post-9/11 love letters, or making broad non-musical statements of protest (Dixie Chicks) she kicked off her next era being critical of the politics that accompanied a post-9/11 America. If it was construed as racist, or white-priveleged, MOST of that commentary came from fans that don’t like urban Madonna. The funniest part of that argument was the complete lack of urban-radio Sonics on that single. Having lived through that most polarizing of eras (even Hard Candy was less hated...and less loved) I think fans had much higher hopes for a more dance oriented album, and were floored by the simplicity and intimacy of American Life as an album. I was floored, but in the best possible way. Sonically speaking, it’s best listened to privately, with headphones on. It’s aggressive and placid at the same time. There’s a sincere fierceness and anger and affection and confusion throughout the album, but it’s really evident in the song American Life, so the rap not only made sense to me, it elevated that track in most unexpected way that It still surprises me sometimes.
  9. I'm not saying this to get yelled at here, but within 24-48hrs of M's Vevo channel updating/reposting her older videos in better quality, they were ripped from the site and available for download. Does having a good quality rip of a streaming video in a library on iTunes or a hard drive contribute to more streaming views? That said, I have a YouTube Red paid account, which offers a few more viewing options, but it still doesn't get past WMG being completely antiquated in their thinking when it comes to streaming.
  10. If Madonna owes LN a tour, she will tour. It's simple. I'm pretty sure we are the only people who are speculating whether that must be completed in 10 years, so I she wants to do a smaller, intimate residency in between tours in a small theater, id assume she'd need a deal with a venue and it's box office not live nation,
  11. I agree about the acoustic arrangements of late. Was anyone else annoyed with the jarring piano arrangement included in the Ellen show performance of Joan Of Arc? The album version of Rebel Heart was devoid of anything anthemic or ethereal, or that matter hopeful, like the Avicii version. The only thing I could disagree about the stripped down acoustic route for an album would be the potential for remixes for singles that would take the songs to another, different level. I haven't enjoyed *official* remix from a madonna single since the Ray Of Light era. And this is probably because I'm old, but part of the brilliance of the LIke A Prayer singles were the complete transformations the singles that did receive remixes took the songs to a completely different place. You have 2-3 radically different versions of the same song. The song secret also comes to mind when I think of an example of a good remix. I love the Rebel Heart album, and I've made peace with some of the omissions and differences in the mixes chosen for the final album.... but there some truly overproduced and unnecessarily overhauled songs imo. Borrowed time, and beautiful Scars spring to mind there.
  12. Yes, I realize that directing is much more involved, but Filth and Wisdom, IABWA both happened during or around the making of Hard Candy (the most polarizing era of Madonna's entire career, even more so than Erotica was, imo.) We can nitpick about quality and a relaxed work ethic in the studio all we want, but sometimes someone else's words can describe how I'm feeling infinitely better than my own, and at other times only my own words can express what I'm going through. Madonna is a human being with many layers that may never be revealed, just like the rest of us. Perhaps the artistic expression from the MDNA era was better expressed through film. Before we start harping on what will take away from her new music, maybe we should read the source material of Loved, and see how the story could immeasurably inspire greatness for the music. Let's not forget that the filming of Evita helped madonna find her voice for Ray of Light. It's time to try and look at her artistic expressions as 2 or 3 different artists, and look at her as a whole.
  13. Why are y'all acting like this is some new trend? She's pretty much always had *almost* simultaneous music and acting/film work since the beginning of her career. The Who's That Girl Tour was named for a reason. The LAP era was born from her misery during her stint on Broadway in Speed The Plow, Erotica was born out of both the book SEX and Body Of Evidence. Music was made after filming of TNBT, American Life's recording sessions were interrupted by Up for Grabs. Etc, Etc, Etc. MDNA wasn't my favorite album, either, but it's certainly not some horrible side project that just happened to be ready to release because of W/E, either. If Madonna didn't care about making music aside from contract obligation, we'd already have "Madonna sings the Blues" and "The Madonna and Child Nativity Christmas Extravaganza" or "Madonna ReRecords Her Own Hits for Lipsync-ing Purposes On Future Tours" in our cd collections. I'm looking forward to the new sounds she's sure to discover, and a new outlook her new home seems to have inspired in her. The movie is something she's probably put a lot of love into, and I hope she decides to include her own music in the film, new or old. It'll work just fine for me.
  14. My unpopular opinion is one that Madonna apparently shares with me: This Used To Be My Playground is not a very good song, and shouldn't be performed live, or ever included in another compilation.
  15. At the risk of digression, WB probably felt the same way most of the press outlets, social commentators, and the music industry felt at the time: "Madonna is a fad. She'll be gone in 6 months.", or the still printed and uttered "Has Madonna gone too far?" rhetoric that WE all know is code for "Why won't she retire and go away already?" I doubt WB had the foresight to keep the film masters for these videos once they were copied and sent to MTV and other various video programs around the world, simply because MTV was smaller than radio airplay, and videos were made to promote chart positions to gain radio airplay. I'd say it's a miracle we still have all of the promo vinyls, promo VHS cassettes, posters, etc that music store employees and DJs had the foresight to see their value for the collector market later on, or were big enough fans of her music themselves that they didn't want to part with such exclusive memorabilia. The 80's videos would most likely have been upgraded already if they had the material readily available. The WB archives are so vast and has switched ownership so many times since the 90's that for all we know Time magazine has all video archived after the Time-Warner merger. Had the industry realized earlier what streaming and video on-demand would do to chart positions, they would probably NOT be pulling videos from YouTube, muting audio from other user's accounts, and claiming copyrights so haphazardly now. So, to bring a long point home, I'm afraid this will be the best we'll get until or if the originals are ever located.
  16. I guarantee that if the Paris footage ever gets its due and is put together, the last thing anyone would say about the Art Deco segment is that it looks "cheap". Not because of the editing overhauls it would undergo either, but because it would not be sourced from SVHS, hazy, badly lit video stock. It would appear "campy", much like it did live. I know there are some people that didn't have the benefit of seeing this show in person, but there's a reason that this tour endures as a signpost, or measurement for other shows. But having seen it in person I can assure you that it wasn't my 14 year old self being dazzled by the theatrics, but it was what Madonna said over and over about the show, that she set out to create a show that would affect you like theatre does. And it did, and it still does. What Truth Or Dare presented was a far more serious take on a very cheeky and funny concert experience. I love the movie, don't get me wrong, but the humor of the show is sucked out by the song selection of the film. Also, because this show has been overly dissected, breaking it down per section, etc. the ONLY way to enjoy this show at home is to view it from start to finish with no benefit of a pause button or bathroom break.
  17. I didn't. I'm waiting for the Rebel Heart TOUR DVD just like we all are. I was referring to the Rebel Heart CD/DVD released in Japan to commemorate the Tour in 2016. And offer advice to those trying to decide which Japanese retailers to order the RHT DVD from.
  18. I got the Rebel Heart CD/DVD edition and it wouldn't play in my bluray player, but I was able to watch and rip it on my computer. It said region free (I think) or whatever the North American region is, so I was a little bummed, but it was just videos, so it wasn't anything not already viewable on YouTube. I ordered it from cd Japan, and ordered the lmtd edition cds that were released as like mini lps. They are a good site that gave shipping updates and they were delivered in a timely manner. But if you order the RHT from that site, Just FYI, they did require a signature upon delivery. I'm not sure if that was a FedEx thing, or their standard delivery practice.
  19. Geez. I know how Netflix works, and my point was that in conjunction with a Netflix Original show/film, her team (including the Boy Toy herself) COULD strike a streaming deal, since there are no full concerts prior to Confessions available. For everyone that thinks Team Madonna (see Guy O) are in it only for the money, the smart move would be to maximize her exposure and availability to the masses. But they do not care for that route in terms of whoring out her back catalogue. Get it? I made peace with my issues about her team a long time ago, and realize that there's always a reason something does it doesn't get released, or doesn't make the final cut, etc etc etc etc.
  20. It's on iTunes US Rebel Heart Tour by Madonna https://itun.es/us/X6Lplb
  21. Haven't you guys figured out that this release is linked to 2 other factors: The MDNA Skin US launch...in September. The Emmy Awards...September 17th. Remember that odd Jimmy Fallon Feb appearance that was randomly listed, and as quickly cancelled? It correlated directly with all the "coming soon to the US" MDNA Skin videos, and showtime had already broadcasted the show, as well as those other international broadcasts that didn't actually happen, etc. Madonna has always been a cross-promotional artist, and there's rarely been only one product that she goes on the TV talk show circuit to promote. It wouldn't surprise me at all if she actually attends the Emmy awards this year to accept the trophy for the RHT Showtime broadcast...especially if "Loved" is going to be a Netflix original production. It's all about knowing how to promote projects: past, present, and future. We'll get the hard confirmation of the BR/DVD release when there's one set in stone for the MDNA Skin launch.
  22. She just needs to do MTV Unplugged. An all-acoustic set of songs from her catalogue (hits and non-singles) and avoid "special guest appearances", unless it's Niki Haris and Donna DeLory.
