  1. I got the sense that the label sort of made her do Ghosttown.  It's the ONLY track that hadn't leaked in any form and I think was done very late into the RH sessions, almost as an afterthought. I feel like the label wanted a really strong ballad for a single, and they really put a lot behind giving her a hit album with RH. Maybe that's why she didn't promote it a lot or include it in the setlist, just out of rebelliousness cuz it was sort of forced on her?  She clearly doesn't hate it too much as she did it at the Leo benefit last year.

He sued for never being paid for pre-production work (attending concerts, testing and figuring out camera angles, etc...). I don't think he had any involvement in filming of the show though.

Right now that you mention it, I think Jonas ended up directing the Lisbon show, either on film or video.  Am i making this up?

He worked with her again and filmed The Superbowl 2012, so it's surely fake news.

And in the Attitude interview from 2005 I posted above, she says the tour was filmed but she wasn't allow to release it after the documentary during certain period of time.

Maybe she just paid him or they settled it, maybe it was an error.  I don't think it was ever very acrimonious, if so.  But yeah maybe fake news

I am thinking not. No contractual obligations and she may want to spend time with her family plus she said she was tired of arena tours 2 years ago and thought she had done all she could. Thoughts? People are just assuming she is touring now. What if she is not?

She said she was touring on Live With Kelly last year.  She said 2018 but with the album out now next year the tour will follow.

Some people feel very repressed by their parents.  M all but voiced it in Truth or Dare during the Like a Virgin number.  She also mentioned in an interview that the SEX book was an act of rebellion against the church, her father and patriarchy in general.  She also said that the Super Bowl was the only time that she felt that her Dad was proud of her.  Her dad has offered a lot of passive aggressive compliments to her over the years regarding her body of work.  In the end, if she never hears or processes that he is fundamentally proud of her, she may have a lot of unresolved feelings that trickle down in to her art.  It is not entirely out of the question for M to take a swipe at patriarchy and rebel the moment that she becomes the Ciccone Queen.  People process repression very differently and I am sure that M, being the intensely complicated individual that she is, will be no exception.  We shall see... although I want Dad to live forever because she loves him so much.

Not everyone processing things the same of course. I don't know what you're talking about re: her voicing anything during Like A Virgin in ToD.  There was no voice over it was all about her not getting arrested.

If you change a word of a song you should get writing credit. I remember Cher saying she changed a few words on Believe but she is listed nowhere on the credits, it's truly a shame if that's true. I remember a quote from Stephen Bray on Madonna, that she wouldn't sing/record anything unless it had her name on it, he was talking about if that's Madonna singing on Lies In Your Eyes by Level 1 thats been passed around for years as her.

To expand on that, Cher actually wrote the whole second verse of Believe & wasn't credited.  Said so in an interview years ago.

I BELIEVE that the right side up was actually a mistake. I heard that when the album was being pressed they thought her face was supposed to be right side up but they were corrected that Madonna's face was supposed to be upside down. The pressings which followed were upside down. I haven't seen any recent pressings, but I think it's odd that they would be printing them right side up since that's not what M intended.

This is correct.  I bought the CD the day it came out & it is right side up.  When the second printings went out a couple months later, it was upside down (so of course I had to buy that one too lol)

  8. It was rambling and yeah a bit tone deaf.  If she wasn't going off a script it could be more understandable. (edit: it appears it wasn't a script, they asked her beforehand to add her own Aretha story: credit to M here on this) Maybe she was nervous.  I know when I'm speaking & nervous I add too much to what I'm saying.  It wasn't billed as an Aretha tribute officially, but her picture was behind Madonna during the speech.

Nothing wrong with being anecdotal during a tribute, however official it was, but I just think it was unintentionally sloppy on Madonna's part.

As for those screaming cultural appropriation on social media, there is a STARK difference between paying homage to a culture and MOCKING a culture.  Madonna pays homage & always has.

I thought her MJ tribute was the best.  I don't remember people complaining about it so much either as w/ Prince & now Aretha.

Maybe Madonna shouldn't show up for tributes and should just PERFORM her own songs on the VMAs again.  I can't believe its been 15 years.

  9. I'm so happy that this time she's able to release her album the way she wants to (fingers crossed)!!!

I remember it was taking her so long to get RH out, and fans were getting impatient, but we know it was probably due to the fact there were, to use the phrase again, "too many cooks in the kitchen".

Looking back, Rebel Heart really sounds like it was too much marketing involved from the get-go with the song titles even.  Holy Water, Messiah, etc, they all sound like "typical classic Madonna song titles" IMO, no matter how much I like those songs & their titles tbh.
