This would have been the obvious sequel to The Immaculate Collection but I think there were several reasons why they did not opt with this:

    - This Used To Be My Playground is not a good opening song, too slow and nostalgic for an artist who had just scored one of her biggest dance hits

    - 8 out of 10 slow songs in a row, would have felt like an abridged version of Something To Remember

    - Human Nature, Drowned World/Substitute For Love, What It Feels Like For A Girl missing even though all 3 of them were important elements of her current tour

    - 3 songs from Erotica, same amount as Ray Of Light and more than Bedtime Stories & Music even though it was her lowest selling album at the time

Basically they wanted to avoid all of those reasons so what we ended up with was a logical decision. Lack of new recordings ignored, American Pie was the only missing element but it was included on most editions of Music, something not part of Madonna's vision so she got her way (it's also just a cover song, no royalties for her). They could have used remixes of Don't Cry For Me Argentina & What It Feels Like For A Girl but maybe they would sound dated now.

They also dropped this sequencing, which would have been just to highlight her return to dance music at the time and the slow songs at the end would have bogged down the set:

Geisha segment of Drowned World Tour.

Her most theatrical segment ever. Frozen gives me goosebumps. Nobody's Perfect came alive in that version compared to the album and Sky Fits Heaven performance is something she never equaled. Not to mention Paradise, which is still her best video interlude, 15 years after its debut...

I also love the third segments of both Confessions Tour and Sticky & Sweet Tour because of the great song selection but they lack the theatrics.

I'm so tired of entering this topic hoping to read actual news to only find the longest bible of speculation and drama.
I'm already tired of this release and it isn't even out yet

I think the same happened with Blond Ambition Tour shows in Japan and the Dick Tracy segment as I'm Breathless had not been released at the time.

She doesnt have enough popularity to have "hit" records anymore - its obvious ? The majority of people paying for music are generally not her demographic anymore - she promoted the hell out of rebel heart and it still didn't help the sales of the album (GHosttown - if had been released by someone like taylor swift or sia would have been a much bigger hit - regardless of her record company - thats probably why warner were glad to get rid of her unfortunately

Neither are bad. You don't need a label any more to distribute music. Her chart failure has nothing to do with her label. We need to acknowledge this. Look at Kylie she's had more labels then I've had lovers ;)

Sorry but a lot of incorrect info going on around here.

MadonnaTribe confirmed Love Profusion was NEVER rehearsed. The setlist posted on the first page was simply a concept and when Madonna started to rehearse the songs, only I'm So Stupid, Dress You Up and maybe Devil... were there that did not make the final cut.

    http://www.madonnatribe.com/idol_03/songs.htm

And if you have been wondering if that rumour of "Love Profusion" meant to replace "Crazy For You" during the European leg of the Tour was true, I can now tell you after chatting with a few people involved on the tour that it was not true, but I've been told the band indeed tried to convince Madonna to perform "Love Profusion" in Europe, but instead of "Nothing Fails", in a brand new acoustic version that was never managed to be rehearsed, and so we did never had the chance to enjoy it in the live show.

Also, it was only a Brazilian fansite that talked about Nothing Really Matters, it was never confirmed by any official sources (i.e. Jamie King). I also remember Bad Girl was a fake report when DrownedMadonna admitted their source confused it with Hanky Panky ("treat me like I'm a bad girl).

As for the rest, Some Girls was meant to be in the place of Vogue:

    http://www.madonnatribe.com/interviews/madonnatribe-meets-drew-dollaz/

MTribe admins talked about several songs that were considered for S&ST but it's doubtful any of them were rehearsed. TPOG was not one of them, but Open Your Heart was and I think some acoustic version leaked.

I don't get why people keep on saying the DWT has poor quality? What have you been watching for the last 15 years? The Asian VCD version of it?

Now seriously, tell me what are the flaws about the whole film. I agree Madonna looked terribly old for a 43-year old woman at the time but the concept of the tour was one of a kind in my opinion. Hamish Hamilton did not abuse of special effects as Akerlund did for IGTTYAS and CT.

I honestly don't get what you want from Madonna then. You complain about the inclusion of lots of takes and angles and the audio here and there and blah blah blah and then criticize the DWT for being "slow" when it actually had REAL vocals (and wonderful for Madonna's personal standards by the way). I mean, you're not talking about the WTG, BAT anf GS right?

Well I only watched the second segment in the non-hd version so far as it's the most relevant part of the show to me.

Vocals are just as cleaned up as on the previous 2 tour films but it's less noticeable since there was less live singing in the first place as the backing tape drowned her vocals on most songs. Body Shop sounds nothing like what you can hear on audience recordings and just as I suspected for long, you can hear album vocals in Deeper And Deeper.

The editing is good for those who haven't seen it live but based it on periscope and youtube since it's practically a different show but it turns out they really did not listen to any of the complaints, it's once again a music video feel and many fans complained about Olympia footage in MDNAT which was barely noticeable compared to what goes on in Like A Virgin! She doesn't even want to pretend it's a proper recording of one of her shows anymore, no wonder the "DVD filming" wasn't an event this time.

Due to the cleaned up audio and the several different video footage I seem to notice many times the vocals don't match her lips, like in the end of Deeper And Deeper, which is not a huge issue but another thing that would piss off the fans who complained about the previous release.

S.E.X. seems to be a few seconds shorter, Deeper And Deeper has the repeated chorus removed in the middle and the break afterwards was always a lot longer. I agree the removal of LDLHA is seamless but hopefully these are in the +15 minutes she mentioned that would be on DVD.

    It's so so cheap.

Damn she has musician behind her. Make them play. Forget the tapes for godsake... That's so unprofessionnal in a way.

She only had one tour during that period and that was based on her last two albums with multiple hits and when radio was still playing her everywhere. I think "coming to terms" is euphemism of "I have to sing these songs to sell tickets".

Prince suffered the same fate long before Madonna. He had tours in 1993 and 1995 where claimed to be "not singing the hits again", then he went full-on greatest hits mode from 2000, the Musicology Tour, where he gave the CD away with tickets had like 1-2 songs from its album. Thats because nobody cared about his post-1993, most of the hardcore fans detest a lot of that music so he had to sing the same songs over and over again, sometimes even in the same sequence (Take Me With U & Raspberry Beret).

So yeah, it is obvious that Madonna has to rely on her 1980s hits to sell tickets, but she insists on her tours being half the new album so there is little room for the rest. RHT had some stuff like True Blue, WTG or TAB but she still repeated 5 songs from S&ST 2009 (like MDNA Tour from S&ST 2008) and they were not re-imaginations but close to album/TIC versions. Combine that she's been doing the same concept for her shows since 2004 with the themes and segments even being recycled, I think it's understandable that some of us feel that things are being stale now...

Elazul got a reaction from MadMark in You'll See Vs. Ghosttown
To me these two songs are the pinnacle of generic Madonna, two ballads that could have been done by any other act. While You'll See sounded very "current" due to David Foster's omnipresence in the mid-90s, Ghosttown always felt "late" since it imitates the Ryan Tedder sound popular in the late 2000s. It should have been a bonus track on Celebration or something, same time when Leona Lewis' Happy was released.

I'll go with You'll See because of her gorgeous vocals on it.

Why would anyone expect new music before 2018? It's usually a full year until the release date from her first studio sessions and for her the Rebel Heart era is ending just now. Not her fault that the leaks are almost two years old...

Well it's clear that when she has the choice, she goes with Candy Shop, Give It 2 Me, Spanish Lesson or an Evita showtune. She seems to prefer singing those songs over most of her discography.

There is absolutely no evidence to back that up now. Many celebrities alongside Madonna backed Clinton and it didn't work out. At this point it's safe to assume the general public could not care less about the political views of a rich celebrity.

Madonna talked a lot about elections on the past several tours but probably most people who attend her shows already share her views anyway so at this point it's unlikely to get past than preaching to the choir. In fact it's the same regarding her 2010s music and performances but that's another story.
