YES! Glad that Die Another Day is at least in the top 3. 😌

Interesting to read how some of you dislike the album or think of it as disappointing, while others (like me) regard it as a terrific album. Could American Life be the most polarizing Madonna album? I always thought Hard Candy and MDMA were the most polarizing since both albums received so much love as well as strong criticism.

I don't see myself listening to fifty songs on a row by most people but I could see people listening to 10 or 15 and later picking up where they left off.  I can also see people discovering Madonna music that they do not even know exists.  Most of the general public is oblivious to M-s music (outside of her monster hits).  Many people have never heard Nothing Really Matters or Turn Up the Radio.  It isn't that they dislike those songs, they just never heard them.  There are songs by Sade, Darren Hayes and even Prince that I have "discovered" while searching for a monster hit on streaming and I am more than a casual fan of all three.  Having fifty songs to choose from will provide discovery for some people and also expose people to M's extensive catalog.  Most people did not reject Madame X, they just have no idea that it exists.  Listening to IDSIF, could encourage exploration and discovery of that album.  The discography on this collection could open people up to many of M's songs ignored by radio, despite being as good (or better) than the vast majority of things on infinite repeat.

I listened back to back to the Deeper remix on Spotify and the RIP from the cd, and they basically sounds the same. As always a lot of moaning about nothing.

I finally voted! For me this was the hardest megarate. American Life is such a cohesive album and my favourite song changes from day to day, depending on my mood. I had a really good time rediscovering this album. I think even songs like Die Another Day and I'm So Stupid are outstanding despite these songs getting a lot of criticism. American Life certainly is in my top 5 of favourite Madonna albums.

In comparison with other albums American Life has aged quite well. It still sounds very modern and it perfectly fits the current climate. Imagine this album being released during the Trump years, how much better the reviews would have been. With Covid and the Russian invasion of Ukraine the world has become a rather ominous place. "Don't want my dreams adding up to nothing." Everybody is indeed looking for something.

This thread is... I don't even know where to start. Misogynistic, ageist, shaming plastic surgery... you've managed to do it all at once! Of course I know what you mean, but you didn't have to frame it in such a pathetic way. She's not dead under those cheeks, you know!

She insisted on continuing and finishing the Madame X Tour seriously injured when everyone was telling her to stop and get the surgery she needed.
She wants to still perform nowadays and do major events like the Maluma concert, even if she's clearly on a different phase of her life both physically and as a performer - I don't believe for a bit she doesn't know that herself, she's a smart woman and always been 100% aware of herself.
Are you sure she's not like that anymore? She's older, yeah, but hasn't lost that thing inside of her.

Watching this performance I realised the lyrics were never more true than during that moment. Picked up my crown, put it back on my head. Like it was meant to be, which made it surrealistic. It really gave the performance a whole extra dimension. The queen fell, then reclaimed her crown, the way only a queen can do: through perseverance.

Complain all we want. Tell this one or that one their taste sucks.but it is pointless. Madonna is going to do what she wants and so is the label whether anyone likes it or not. Be happy she is still alive and working. All the negative comments are pointless.

Watching that again, any other person at her place would have been seriously injured or even died with that fall on the stairs. Holy fuck!

My entire heart jumped into my mouth and the world stopped for a second.
It physically hurt me to watch that happen. I’ve never wanted to throw my arms around her more….and I just knew because of the lyrics people would think it was a set up.
    she did the damn thing.
but I do wonder if this was the beginning of the knock on her confidence at performing live. It can take one major event to throw you off something you’ve been doing for years especially when you think your life is at risk. People who have car crashes are often prone to more accidents afterwards through lack of confidence at the wheel etc.

I thought she was agonna. Broke her back or something.
    An absolute hero

People thought it was a stunt cause, like @Andreosaid, any other person of performer would have been injured and not able to finish the song. The superhuman way she was able to get up and finish the performance like nothing happened... my God, only her.

But I agree that maybe that was the "beginning of the end" in terms of her live performances, the "Rebel Heart Tour", while still a great show, was more relaxed and intimate than ever.
