Yes, stunning. If that beauty spot is real, don't get rid of it like your mum. It's uniquely beautiful because perfect is boring.

I guess M just wants to release heavily edited footage, that's why nobody's really keen on working 6 months to alter her face, her hands, to redo the audio track...

A bit more authenticity would be nice, but it seems she doesn't rely on her appearance anymore.

I may sound bitter, sorry. But actually I'm just sad.

If there's no official proper filming, then she's really downsizing yet another thing. If she's not gonna bother to FILM the show for whatever reason, and just relies on HD screen footage, then well.... ok. A pity, there's nothing like film and I always thought she knew that, but then again Sticky and MDNA were so lackluster, that why bother? She'd need a new director and editor for anything good to happen in the first place. Yah I cant be arsed. Just let whatever will happen, happen. If she releases it as 360p on Youtube then I'll be happy it's released at all, my expectations are on the floor.

I just had another thought - although again, this could be wishful thinking - if M allowed the Rebel Rebel and Like A Prayer, Stockholm footage to be released on the internet, then maybe she won't be as precious about the full concert footage being used for a DVD?

I wonder if the over-editing of the Confessions, Sticky & Sweet and MDNA tours was because of the broadcasting and CD/DVD combo release. Therefore if there isn't a deal already in place, perhaps Rebel Heart might be given a more 'straight to DVD' look and feel (as per Drowned World and Girlie Show). I'm certainly hoping so!

Although it's frustratiing Blond Ambition never got an official DVD release, I love the footage for Japan, Nice and Barcelona that eventually found it's way into the world. Ironically I've seen more video footage from that tour than I have from any other.

Also, we know Tears of Clown was filmed, and there's no way it will be for a DVD release on its own, which make me more hopeful for a full tour DVD. But... perhaps, it was just filmed just so M could review and critique her performance afterwards?

Inside Madonna’s intimate ‘Tears of a Clown’ show in Melbourne
    http://fasterlouder.junkee.com/inside-madonnas-intimate-tears-of-a-clown-show-in-melbourne/858982
Celebrating her long-overdue return to Australia after a 23-year absence, Madonna treated fans to an intimate show billed as Tears of a Clown at the Forum Theatre. RICHARD S HE was among the fans who witnessed the (very late) night of performance art, comedy, story telling and music.

Only hours before her hyper-exclusive fan show’s scheduled to start, Madonna put this up on Instagram â€“ “I am presently experiencing life at a rate of several WTF’s per hourâ€. It’s good to know that one of the most famous women in the world still gets nervous.

The doors opened around midnight, three and a half hours late. A handful of fans had been camping out since the morning of the day before. It didn’t matter. Like those elusive Prince afterparties, the later the show starts, the more rewarding it is. Tonight, we’re all impressionable teenagers again, rediscovering feminism and queerness and sexuality and the sheer liberating joy of pop music.

From top to bottom, Tears of a Clown is surreal. It’s hard to process the fact that Madonna’s finally back in Australia, 23 years after The Girlie Show. It’s bizarre, seeing her in the flesh. It’s hilarious, seeing her ride onstage on a miniature girl’s bike, clad in head-to-toe pink top hat, wig, and clown makeup. But as she opens with a trip-hop version of ‘Send in the Clowns’, we’ve never taken her more seriously. Later, she flashes us and throws peanuts at the front row, and hey, we came for that too.

It’s been over a decade since we last saw Madonna in confessional singer-songwriter mode. Tonight, she’s still a feminist/queer icon, but the larger-than-life popstar Madonna’s on the shelf. She plays mostly album cuts from Ray of Light, Music, and most surprisingly,American Life â€“ a deeply personal album largely ignored by radio, but beloved by fans. She even covers Elliott Smith’s ‘Between the Bars’, and it sure as hell isn’t for indie cred.

Tonight’s all about storytelling and, fronting a six-piece band, her voice and lyrics are out front. Madonna’s always been a deeply underrated vocalist; she instinctively knows how to mold her voice to a song’s arrangement, emotion, words. Whether it’s over acoustic guitars or electronic backings, complete with live auto-tune, she’s in fine form.

Tears of a Clown is really a cabaret, as much about her banter as her songs. Madonna rarely gets credit for her perfectly dry comic timing, but it’s on full display tonight. She flits between telling crass jokes – “What do you call the piece of skin at the end of a penis? A man!†– and telling offbeat, moving stories. She talks about her father, who’s living his dream, devoted to tending his vineyard well into his eighties.

She recounts visiting her then-husband Sean Penn – “you know he’s a badass!†– in a maximum-security prison. Sean’s cell is next to Richard Ramirez, the infamous “Night Stalker†serial killer – and he has a line of young female groupies. Meanwhile, the most talked-about celebrity couple of the ‘80s is just… there, alone. She still doesn’t know what to make of it.

Midway through the show, Madonna confesses what we’ve all been thinking, and dedicates ‘Intervention’ to her estranged teenage son Rocco. “There is no love stronger than a mother for her sonâ€; Tears of a Clown really only exists for this moment. Madonna finds catharsis by singing her very saddest songs. And she finds redemption by playing them to 1500 of her most devoted, neglected fans. That’s unconditional love.

By ‘Joan of Arc’, maybe the best song off last year’s Rebel Heart, Madonna’s come to terms with her own limitations. “Fame is a form of misunderstandingâ€, she says, but she realises she has everything else to live for. Only then can she finally pull out the hits. ‘Don’t Tell Me’ gets the first big singalong of the night. People remember that single for its kitschy cowboy-Americana video, an early predecessor to Kanye’s uncanny ‘Bound 2’. Fewer remember it for its poetic, existential lyrics. Tonight, it’s commiseration and celebration.

Madonna’s reputation as some ice-queen businesswoman couldn’t be further from the truth. She’s always been an artist first and foremost. What she’s doing tonight could melt even the hardest cynic. Tears of a Clown is about comedy, about the unexpected. It’s about laughing through our tears. This Madonna’s more vulnerable because she’s dressed in a ridiculous clown costume.

“People always ask me – why do you keep making records? Going on tour? Haven’t you done everything?… There’s no time limit on creation. When Pablo Picasso was painting, did they tell him to stop?†Madonna’s notorious, and beloved, for never looking back. Virtually all her musical peers are nostalgia acts, but she reinvents herself for every tour, every album. Tonight, she revisits a handful of mostly 13, 15-year-old songs – around the age of her son – and rediscovers the soul they always had. Tonight’s intimate affair only deepens the giant arena tour we’ll see in a few days’ time.

Just before 3 a.m., Madonna finally closes with ‘Take a Bow’, and a ukulele encore of ‘Holiday’. Everyone’s exhausted, but it feels like she could go on forever. Maybe in another 23 years?

Yeah and they had enough opportunities to see/hear them :)Also, she has a tour DVD for almost every tour. People feel so entitled to hear all those overdone songs on tour. This concert proves that her catalogue is so amazing, she could do a tour consisting of only non-classics and it would still be amazing!

    1998.

One of my ex-girlfriends was a Madonna fan. One day she told me that Madonna has just release a new album, called "Ray of light", so she recorded to me on a tape the full album plus a few songs (Deeper and deeper - Secret - Love dont live here anymore - Why its so hard? - I want you). I loved so much "Ray of light" that I bought the CD.

A few weeks later she gave me as a present "Like a prayer" and I loved too. After that came "Who´s that girl", "Erotica"... and we break.

Now she hates Madonna and prefers heavy music, specially Marilyn Manson.

She would release Bercy Paris. Probably why we haven't had a release. If she wanted Nice or Yokohama WB and Madonna could have made it happen by now. The Paris shows are beautifully filmed, lit and show so much depth missing in the tv broadcasts. Madonna is a fan of film. When asked if she would release BAT she answered with "I need to find it" There is no way the Nice or Yokohama shows are missing, but the Paris shows are hidden away somewhere, so I am sure she was referring to those shows.

So I do like both shows, I prefer the Nice show just because it has better energy, however her singing in Yokohama is far better and I hate the stupid pink lighting she added to the Barcelona and Nice shows during Express Yourself, looks awful.

One thing I never hear mentioned though. During Express Yourself in Yokohama, has no one else seen Nikki injure herself? She apparently already sprained her foot and during the dance break in EY she does something worse to it, you can see the absolute pain on her face after they do the high kick and she limps throughout the rest of the song and is absent for the start of Like a Prayer. In Truth or Dare you see her ankle/foot getting bandaged in Chicago and in the Hanky Panky video clip you can see she is wearing boots not heels in some shots. Must have been a bad sprain if she was still treating it as late as Chicago.

InfinityWithin reacted to PlayPause in since when M uses the ear plug to hear her voice in live shows
Have you heard about technology ? You know, when devices change and make things easier. That's what happened with the ear plug ;-)OK, now enough with sarcasm, live shows are an aspect of show business that have evolved TREMENDOUSLY in the past 30 years. And guess what, that's exactly when M's career started. When M started touring, it simply didn't exist (or at least it wasn't made available for pop shows, it was designed and used at first by the military). The first known use of a wireless headset was Janet Jackson during the Control / Rhythm Nation promo performances. It included a microphone and an ear thing (not a plug at that time, it was too big to fit inside the ear).M's first tours budget probably didn't allow her to use them. But the funny thing is that it's her using it during the Blond Ambition Tour that earned the device its nickname : the "Madonna Mic".Nowadays the device is split in two parts, the IEM, as mr00mister mentionned before is the "in-ear monitor", and the mike. They're both wireless and can be plugged on the transmitter depending on the movements required by the singer. (I don't remember she uses a headset mic on the RHT, but she had one on the MDNA Tour during the Vogue segment)Now you're kind of mistaken about the purpose of the ear plug : it is not intended for the singer to hear their own voice, but rather hear the music and background singers in order to keep pace.In "regular" concerts (the ones that happen in regularly-sized venues), such a device is not needed because the band and/or the monitors are close enough to the singer so that they can hear the music naturally. For Madonna and other big acts who perform in stadiums, or TV performances with back tracks, the band is often far away if present at all and the use of monitors is simply not possible because of the overall sound level of the stadium speakers. So the use of an earplug (or two sometimes) is a requirement. It doesn't help the singer sing on key, it just helps them keep the music, and not get messed up with the echo in the stadium or the crowd instead. Also keep in mind that all the other tech stuff on stage (moving screens, lifts, etc) are terribly noisy, and that singing while 20 dancers are hitting the floor can be pretty disturbing. The quality of the sound monitoring in the earplugs have also evolved in the last 10 years, with the development of digital tools like voice and pitch correction, but it does not have a sgnificant influence on how the singer will sound per se.Earplugs also transmit instructions to the singer and other performers onstage (beginning of a song, prop movements, lifts, lights, etc.)

My favourite is the 7" version without fade.

It's almost identical to the album version, but is mixed by Shep Pettibone (Gooood!!!) and has a little bit more power (not only in the midnight hour).

You missed the 7'' version which was available with and without fade ending. Essentially all the elements of the album version mixed by Shep and with extra guitars towards the end. Thats the best to my ear, second to that would be the Sticky and Sweet Tour Version
