Madonna needs to open a political tour section with Rescue Me.  It is very Madonna 2019.  Maybe even the tour opener.  It sounds modern still as it sounded out of place among the 80's collection.  It is power.  It is fire.  It is life.

BringUrLUV reacted to Lucifer's Angel in Hard Candy vs. Like a Prayer
I disagree. Madonna never did an album like HC and it was a breath of fresh air after the COADF album, in which she came back to her disco roots. HC is innovative and experimental and proves Madonna ability to choose current producers at the top of their game and and still be able to push them further to achieve something totally unique and pioneering like the HC album.
Let's face it: the only real skip on HC is the Incredible song. Seriously, even Spanish Lesson is lowkey a bop and a great way to learn some Spanish. There is plenty of substance on the rest of the album:  4 minutes still got a great message to save the world and Miles Away's lyrics are extremely mature and it kinda forecast the imminent divorce with Guy Ritchie. It may not be a subject as deep as the lost of her mother, but it still deal with very important and personal stuff.  Not to mention that HC songs are joyful and make you dance! Even the ballads got awesome bridges and melodies.
The hard true is that Like a Prayer tries to be joyful but it miserably fail: Cherish, Dear Jessie and Keep It Together are meant to be happy cheerful songs but they are just plenty boring and got pathetic lyrics. Those songs aged quite bad  and  are definitely a skip in the album.  Love Song is bland and disappointing cuz Madonna and Prince did not put enough effort on it; and, finally Act of Contrition tastes like the title track leftover. This means that half of Like a Prayer album is not that great at all.

Are you out of your fucking mind? “Got to Be There” sold more than 3 million copies, “Ben” 5 million (and includes a US #1 single), and “Music & Me” over 2 million. Add series of successful albums with his brothers as well. And “Invincible” sold over 10 million copies worldwide, something “Erotica” is yet to achieve. So please take your own advice.

Did you also take into consideration that MJ released less singles and albums than Madonna in that time span?
  6. Thanks
BringUrLUV reacted to Mp1992 in Celebration... Where is the justice for M?
Well Prince hasn't had a top 10 hit in the US since 1994!  And MJ since 2001 (barely) not counting the posthumous Justin song that went top 10 in 2013

Since 1994, in the US alone, Madonna had I'll Remember, Secret, Take a Bow, You'll See, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Frozen, Ray of Light, Music, Don't Tell Me, Die Another Day,Hung Up,  4 Minutes, Give Me All Your Living
Power of Goodbye just missed the top 10 peaking at #11 in 1998.  Beautiful Stranger and American Pie peaked at #19 and #29 respectively on airplay alone and would of went top 10 if they had official singles releases in the US

BringUrLUV reacted to Mp1992 in Celebration... Where is the justice for M?
MJ released 10 solo studio albums while alive and 2 more posthumously after his death.  12 in total

His first 4 solo studio albums in the 70s were flops, only one got a sales certification, Ben (which makes Erotica look like a blockbuster) and one peaked at #101(!)  on the BILLBOARD albums charts

And yes they count, just like Janet's 2 pre Control flop albums count

Madonna had more top 10 hits in the US  in the 90s and 2000s than MJ and Prince's COMBINED times two!

    Crazy isn't it?

Uhm, I get your points (sort of) but the last real hit Michael had was You Rock My World in 2001. Recent Drake vocals feature really doesn't count as a solo effort, Love Never Felt So Good I suppose is another story but even with that Madonna's career post 2000 had more hits  (you're not seriously counting his older songs that charted after his death?). And both, "Erotica" and "American Life" sold pretty much the same as "Invincible" yet managed to produce longer lasting hits and with time their value was reconsidered which, to a degree, admittedly happened with "Invincible" but nobody sees that album as a misunderstood-at-a-time, influential piece of work the way "Erotica" is for instance.
Also, judging by the quality of songwriting on "Invincible" and the posthumous releases, perhaps it's best Michael wasn't allowed to make more albums cause it would turn him into Prince whose output was ridiculously prolific but the quality of which was often questionable at best.
As for your sexism comment - Adam Lambert got a lot of heat for kissing one of his male musicians during American Music Awards in 2009. I don't see what's sexist about it however, that's just pure homophobia. Madonna was heavily criticised for her stint with Britney and Christina as well by the way, I'm sure you can recall the uproar it caused.
By the way, I'm a huge fan of both Prince and Michael Jackson .

Things I did like about Celebration were inclusions like Burning Up, Who’s That Girl, Hollywood, Dress You Up and Miles Away. But ofcourse, there are some pretty jarring omissions like Deeper and Deeper, Give It 2 Me, American Life, and WIFLFAG.

Guys - not sure who else to discuss this with in real life so Im going to look to you folks.  ok im gonna ramble now....
OK sooo I find ROL to be a magical album and William Orbit is often solely credited for this magic BUT I dont feel like he's been able to reproduce that magic on subsequent projects with M, namely his efforts on Music and MDNA.
Now to be clear, im not discounting William - ROL is an amazing album and William played an integral part especially after hearing the pre-William demos.  ON THE OTHER HAND, after hearing these pre William demos, it really seems to me like Nowells, Madonna and Patrick Leonard already had a great deal of the melodies and soul of this album built.
Also, Rick Nowells has produced the bulk of Lana Del Reys albums which all have this magical ROL journey to them as well.  I feel like the heart of ROL is already here in these demos - that dreamy airy quality (not including the Babyface tracks).  It almost feels like Rick Nowells should be credited much more for this project than he did get and im sure there's so much we dont know about the business and all the things that transpired in the making of the album, etc.
I love the Orbit beats but I guess what Im saying is I always thought Orbit was the genius behind the magic of ROL and now im not sure Id give him such a bulk of credit for this album.  Does anyone else feel the same?
Id like to see M get back with Rick Nowells after hearing this Demo Assembly CD.

I don't dislike the album, but I agree it doesn't have some of her best on it. However, I did listen to the album a lot, I think because, when it was released, it seemed like such a long time since Hard Candy.

Madonna can absolutely produce a track on her own.  All she needs to do is order engineers around.  She co-produces everything already.
That being said, Hold Tight sounds very much like a Ryan Tedder production.
I doubt he wanted to be disassociated with it because he had a similar song with Gwen months or a year before he did HT. Why would he produce it in the first place?
I think it was more along the lines of the album being such a mess with the leaks & her switching which versions etc etc for the final tracklist.  The initial credits for the album took forever to come out and haven't they even been revised since?  I don't trust those credits, this song being the glaring example.

These credits say everything about Rebel Heart's production history.
Recorded between Moscow, Barcelona and LA. Six songwriters.
    In short, a mess.

It's definitely Ryan Tedder's song. He probably didn't want to be associated with it, because it sounds very similar to another track he produced for Gwen Stefani a year before.
He already had some controversy regarding a similar situation where he produced a song for Kelly Clarkson (Already Gone) and gave Beyoncé (Halo) an almost identical song, resulting in Kelly's song being labeled a "rip-off".
Another possibility is, that so many people were involved in the making of that track (there is a ton of different incarnations that we've heard) that it's hard to say who was ACTUALLY responsible for the majority of the song's production.

Some of you might not be fond of this album but it really is underrated. She took the mainstream and made into her own. She added her own flavour. That’s what an artist does. Also, falling free is one of her best finales to an album and I’m addicated is one of my personal favourite non single tracks
